Col Sylvia is..

Recommended Posts

Josh Mahoney is quoted on MELBOURNEfc TV as saying Colin Sylvia will be playing as a forward for the rest of this season.

They will try and keep it simple for him. Mahns is also hoping he can play a Robbo type role.

They've figured out in 16 games what Daniher couldn't in 4 years.

Seems to be a recurring theme really. Miller has also benefited from a bit of duh-duh common sense.

This will really benefit Col's ever improving game.

This year and over the last couple of years Colin has been moved around to much, I know its been in order to find his best position but it still isnt healthy for his game. He will be able to concentrate on the one task now. Which will give him a much better mindset going into match days.

I look forward to seeing what he can come up with.

im sure most of us hoped he'd become a superstar midfielder when he was first drafted...

such is life....

however, if he can become a 40 goal a year mobile forward (ala Brad Johnson) with stints up the ground he could become a really good player.

i'm sure we'd prefer him become a really good forward rather than simply see him fail as a less than mediocre forward.

i'm satisfied with this move.

future forward line=

mobile forwards: Sylvia, Bate, Robbo

Small forwards: Davey, Wonaeamirri, Maric

Tall forwards: Miller, Newton

If we added Jack Watts (future star key forward) we could have an extremely imposing and versatile forward line in years to come.

That is a very good stock of future forwards, who can then share the goal kicking

Forget Robbo, he's finished. He'll play only because he's contracted and it will be mainly for Casey

I love it when people have a go at others only to show themselves complete idiots.

Sylvia will be given a go and perhaps succeed this year because:

1) He had his first full preseason ever

2) He doesn't have to compete with Neitz and Robbo on the forward line. Instead of being the 3rd or 4th option he's now 1st or 2nd. Gee, what a surprise that he's doing better. Might have helped Miller too.

Col reminds me a lot of Ryan O'Keefe up forward. I think he has the potential to be as good or better in the next few years, hope like hell he can deliver.

Yeah! He has the potential. No doubt! But is a lazy footballer and enjoys the lifestyle a bit too much instead of playing consistent footy. Thinks he is already a star and is not. Pull your finger Col and get serious.

He'll probably play a bit closer to goal than O'Keefe cos he doesn't seem to have the motor but still a good comparison

Cannot compare them at all! Are you guys serious? O'Keffe eats Sylvia's for brekky at the moment. I think you guys are hoping! He is still way off!

He is capable of kicking 50 goals a season for the rest of his career, simple as that.

Something Demons fans have been hearing for years.

If Colin can really work on his game as a forward without having to many distractions, he will succeed. And it will be bittersweet.

Welcome aboard grimesy. Agree he's no O'keefe yet Dee tention, talking more about potential. And pheonix, I might be wrong but I think his preseason was a bit restricted this year, more hope that next year his motor may be better

Thanks Furious D.

We've all been expecting Col to hit the midfield scene for the last 4 years. Its never happened.

Should we just deal with the fact Colin is not cut out to be a midfielder. Or keep hoping?

I never wanted him in the midfield.

From the day he was drafted I begged Danher and his cronies to play him out of the goalsquare and take advantage of his leap and overhead marking ability.

It has taken a coaching change for it to happen but thank God it has.

Like most here I've ben disappointed with Col, but his body has let him down. If we can get a decent forward out of him, great, but I'd give him a chance to get himself right while playing forward before I write his midfield chances off.

Plying like Robbo? He has a bit of a defensive game too does Col, and can lay one of the most devastating tackles going round...

I liked him in defence against the Blues, but this is the clear choice for Col.

Good boy CS, good boy DB.

Y_M,

What did you think of Sylvia's performance today?

Very quiet.

Started forward and the ball never went down there.

If Bruce and Jones didnt butcher the ball every time they got it, our forwards (including Col) would all look much better.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
