A big reason why I think we have only won 1 game

This is abseentees from yesterday's game including those out of the side, retirees and delistees from last year. This has happened in less than a year.

Bell- 56 games

Carroll- 69 games

Holland- 190 games

Jamar- 58 games

Rivers- 70 games

Robertson- 215 games

Whelan- 130 games

Neitz- 306 games

Bizzell- 161 games

Ward- 136 games

Brown- 146 games

Pickett- 204 games

that's 1,741 games of experience not there. I was so close to throwing my bottle at the TV yesterday but I refrained. I've reconciled myself with the fact that our list turnover/absenteeism has been unbelievable.

Jamar- 58 games

Hrm.

Btw, probably more relevant to have a look at the # of games played, and age, of the majority of our team that does get out there.

Either way, I agree with your point (although didn't find the game terribly frustrating).

You have added up a whole line of number that in total mean diddlysquat.

Rivers, Robbo and Whelan would have been nice. The rest are all finished. Carroll and Jamar were out there "winning" the game for Sandy on the weekend.

And what would have Byron done???? Given us add kgs on the ground.

You would have destroyed the TV if the 250+ games "experience" of Yze was not there.

BTW, not having Robbie Flower's 274 games cost us big time to.

The real reason we have only won 1 game this year is that we have only been in front at the final siren once!

Moose

Interesting theory.

I havent thought of it that way.

When you have younger kids then you have an inconsistency in your play between games and within games. The older players have experience and with that experience generally comes greater consistency.

A big call from Bailey all year has been maintaining the competitiveness for longer periods of the game. Yesterday we were competitive for 3 quarters, but completely uncompetitive for a quarter which cost us.

That is exactly right, but the thing is that the players who often go missing are our senior players.

In that second quarter, they needed to stand up and stem the tide, and with the exception of Green, none of them did.

As you've said, young players are inconsistent. They probably thought the game was going to be easy after we dominated in the first quarter, and the Tigers caught them off guard. That's a poor outcome, and it shows a lack of maturity, but at the same time that we can't rely on our senior players (whoever is left standing) to lead the way is a real worry.

Junior, Bruce, White and Yze were all extremely poor in the second quarter and that's a big reason why once the Tigers got on a role, we couldn't stop them. The kids went into shock, and our senior players did what they always do, go back into their shell. That's also why we've been so inconsistent in general for the past 10 years. One year up, one year down. One good game, one bad game. One good quarter, one bad quarter. It's been happening for a long time, well before we fielded a daycare group.

I guess what I am saying is that I have reconciled myself with the fact that we are completely stuffed for the next three years and I won't be tempted to throw anything at the television. It is terribly disheartening.

This year was always going to be a transitional year for us, and let's face it, finding a long term option for FF, CHF, CHB, FB, Ruck and various other positions over the ground was far more important than just missing out on the finals.

Of course I'm not happy with losing but I understand that there needs to be alot of work done to get us in a position to seriously make a challenge.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
