That is certainly very good news! Looks like they may just get some suggestions off us after all :).

Clash strips so often dont work out well, but i was just thinking, on a positive note re: clash strips... How nice it is to see Brisbane play in the old Fiztroy colours. I know if i were an ex-Roy's supporter, even if i only had a small following of Brisbane now, i'd definitely buy it. Definitely a case of a good-looking, successfully designed away strip.

I really hope the club has a good look at these designs, and the AFL gives one of the above red jumpers, or the inverted colours jumper, the all-clear. I have a feeling they'd be a roaring success. I'll buy two if it looks anything like my final design! haha

some interesting quotes from PMac in that article...

"We are stuck with the silver outfit for two more games (this year), but Gillon has agreed to relax the contract if we come up with a suitable alternative.

"Our supporters want red and blue. Our preference would be a reverse strip, which is what we originally submitted, but the red base didn't fly with the AFL.

"We will do variations of the reverse strip and see if we can come up with something.

"We need to feature red and blue. Everyone at this club has red and blue running through their veins and our supporters are very strong on this one."

so it turns out our reverse strip didn't meet the standards required by the AFL... this is a joke to start with... how can the bombers just increase their red sash which creates a greater clash with us (perhaps the reason we haven't played them in a home game in recent times) or collingwood get away with their clash jumpers if our reversed jumper wasn't sufficient?

given who we've work our clash jumpers against, you would imagine we clash with the following clubs: St. Kilda, Essendon, Brisbane, Freo, Carlton, Adelaide (no idea why we didn't wear our clash jumper when we played them the other week)... the only clubs a reversed strip could possibly clash with are essendon (barely) and brisbane... and to be honest, our traditional strip doesn't clash with the brisbane one much...

if our former predominantly red jumper was sufficient, why isn't a reversed jumper? the AFL's stance on clash jumpers is an absolute joke...

McNamee said there was a chance supporters could be enlisted to design the new strip.

"At the end of the day if we can't come up with a suitable strip we will put it to our supporters. We wouldn't rule it out, in fact it might be a great thing to do."

we already have a start on this here... a demonlander could have the privilage of designing a MFC jumper!

Interesting that he says fans may be enlisted to help design...

He might have been on Demonland already...

Lets just seem suitably "surprised" hey ..when they unwrap the new design ;)

If the AFL insists on white being a part of the jumper then maybe this could be an option. Its a modification of a couple of other designs that have been posted. I'm a complete hak at this sort of thing so excuse the roughness. For the record i reckon that red jumper is awesome guys!

I don't mind this as an alternative to the Red one...

Obviously these are all rough designs, and its hard to pick what it'll really look like on someone.

So far my preference is the red in this design, if the AFL won't take that, I don't mind this white one.

nice work... here is a slight modification, which i think improves a little.. keeps our jumper, well the identity of our jumper within the design...

It makes PERFECT sense to have the fans have some dort of very REAL impact on the design..

The idea that a bunch of suits decide what it looks like is so stupid it defies reason...

If the TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC is demons supporters, then it's just good market research to approach them. They could run an email to supporters, but even better than that go to demonland/ology and ASK AROUND! You'd have about 300 posters answer in the first hour, and best for all the supporters would feel engaged and part of the club... In fact it would be probably the biggest step these two sites have ever made towards the club besides perhaps sponsoring Clint Bartram. I just can't see a downside...

And just on the Lyon thing... There's 3 compelling reasons why he may just put it on the footy show...

- Footy Classified... He got on his soap-box about it on Monday. We know already he's got it in his sights.

- The lack of media for the demons. It's not like he's had much at all to say about us this year, other than to answer critics week in week out about the off and on field garbage...

- As a staunch supporter of his old club who enjoys flying the flag for us, having the opportunity to show there ARE die-hard supporters out there who care enough to create their own designs would go a long way to putting a face on us, even if only for a moment. By and large people would expect the demons supporters not to care, but if he puts up a small segment, he has the opportunity to show once and for all we do exist, and have something to say.

It could be slipped in VERY easily after the panel give their tips. In the general discussion for the game, which this year has consisted of next to nothing, he could put it in, and it would only take a few seconds. You would also hope that a some point they have Robbo on to talk about his achilles... It could be discussed there instead.

The article in The Age says that we must still wear the strip against Freo in round 16 and Essendon in round 18. That means we will have worn it agains Fremantle, Essendon, St. Kilda and Brisbane, with Carlton wearing their white jumper when we played them. Of these teams, which, if any, does a mainly red jumper like the ones proposed here clash with? For me, Essendon comes the closest, but they're predominantly black. I can think of no team in the AFL where either our regular jumper or a mainly red jumper clashes.

No doubt the red designs with the traditional logo are ideal & look great.

However I believe the reason we have this silver abomination is because the AFL wouldn't approve an all red design. If this is the case then the same should apply to all clubs.

Essendon's wide stripe & Collingwood's black on white are a joke.

The AFL need to show some genuine backbone & stipulate a basic design to all clubs.

For example all those that need a light alternate have a base white jumper & shorts with a logo of choice on the front & maybe club coloured striping down the seams.

All those that need a dark alternate have a base black jumper & shorts with logo etc.

Then everyone is in the same position. No arguments & no crap designs like ours or Brisbane's mural.

You read my mind, Melbourne should now put forward that strip again and say, "this is what we want, if you want to give Collingwood and Essendon a free ride on this issue than at least give us this".

If we had to wear that abomination, then they should make the Pies and the Dons do the same. Perhaps a way to encourage them to do it they'll say anyone not willing to put forward a feasible alternate strip must wear a pink bib!

And just on the one they rejected, i posted pics on 'ology comparing the respective strips. The inverted strip barely clashes with Essendon, doesn't clash with Bulldogs AT ALL, and i can't see why we'd have to wear an alternate strip against Sydney. They are making a simple thing complicated, it doesn't have to be perfect, in the heat of the moment when players are search for their players they will looking for the dominating colour (v Sydney dark blue, v Dons red, v WB red).

Alternative strips are a great way for clubs to market another jumper to their supporters. I can't understand why clubs like Essendon don't embrace it and other clubs like us do such an ordinary design that no one will buy?

I would love to see a home jumper, alternative strip (permenant and not changing every year) and a third, different design for the pre-season competition.

With a good alternative strip based on heritage (predomitaley red and blue with the MFC crest like suggested by Demon4Life) we can use the pre-season jumper to try new patterns/logos/colours and change that around every year to keep creating new products to sell.

Just had a look at that post Pates: I have no idea where the AFL sees the clashes there. Essendon is the only concern, but from a distance it would be a predominantly black jumper against a predominantly red jumper. Add to that white shorts and fully red socks vs red and black socks, and there shouldn't be any problems.

This is another variation on the one 'Hards' posted earlier

MelbourneFCAltStrip.jpg

This one could be worn with white shorts, and we could wear the red socks with the blue band at the top.

I know the club is trying to distance itself from the whole 'Demons' image... but the current logo plainly sucks. I could of designed that for them over my lunch break... minus the gigantic price tag.

BRING BACK TO THE DEMON!!!

Im currently sitting on a PC with no real graph package.. sucks..

As an idea..( someone may be able to quickly throw this together )

Take our true Heritage Jumper.. The Blue one with red collar and red bad around mid rift.

Now reverse all colours..So its nearly all red. on the front of jumper have a break of the band and insert the MFC logo

( if I can get back to my PC ..I'll kknock this up if someone else hasnt )

cheers

I think the deal with the AFL is that the jumper is predominantly red..and that the back is especially.

If i had to go with a strip that didn't just have red and blue, i wouldn't mid that. And i completely agree, let's bring back the demon!

Something along these lines???

Looking back I probably would of had the band higher up (where the sponsorship rests... and include the sponsorship in the blue), but is this sort of what you were thinking of mate?

Here's another idea.

Again, hardly the most imaginative on my behalf.

Melbourne-20032.jpg

This is however, probably too close to the original design, but I do think that red and blue should be the only colours used.

I like this one, but yeah, probably needs more red on it.

BINGO !!! :)

(well done )

Band higher might be good as you suggest

it draws upon our heritage in a fresh approach.

Something old..is now something new :)

Importantly for me.. its a FOOTY jumper...not a pajama top!!!

Just came up with another design, should the predominantly red jumpers not get the go ahead, and white/silver is required by the AFL. Its based around the 2001-2002 pre-season jumper. Similar to richie_mac and vanlo's designs.

post-300-1212645501_thumb.jpg

Or, with 150th logo, should the jumper be used this year.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
