agree with this in sentiment. i take it that u mean we need to trade or give up picks to get a proven performer???? Problem with this is bar Brad Green we have dont have much to trade and I don't think we will give up picks.

The best way to land a big name would be to offer a long term deal.

Brown, Fevola and Kerr all want 5 but do we as a club want to take that risk?

a way around us paying the 92.5% is by not promoting a veteran ie james mcdonald or robbo to the veterans list next year. thereby counting their whole salary (rather than 50% as it currently is with Yze and Neitz) in the cap.

we can leave valenti on the rookie list for example, and play him as the nominated rookie in the same way as michael jamison is from carlton this year.

I think we should ask the AFL to allow us to to be under the 92.5 for a year or two.

Otherwise will be overrewarding players, unless we get Brown on a mil for 5 years, frontloaded contract.

Well both Neitz and Yze were on the veterans list so only half their salaries would be on the cap and Holland would be on minimal salary anyway. White is certainly one which would free up a lot of room in our cap though.

In saying that, no need to throw money at a trade target for the sake of it. Would rather front load some contracts than waste money on some big name we don't need.

I really doubt the net result of four players off + four players on will be us being under the salary floor. We'd need to be pretty much sitting on it already, which I'm quite confident we're not.

I think you'll find we are paying some of Travis' pay packet but other than that, who in on our current list would be commanding any significant amount that once Yze, Neita and Robbo are out of the picture would leave us at or above 92.5??

I believe that those numbers were from 2006 and sice then we have moved on half of TJ, Pickett, Bizz, Brown, etc.

And now half of TJ ($200 000), half of Neita (veterans list - $200 000), White ($400 000), Yze ($300 000), Holland ($150 000), Whelan ($150 000).

I think they are pretty conservative numbers, and they total more than $1.4 million.

Sadly Thompson, Johnstone, Jolly and Simmonds are guns we've let go.

I dont hink so. we wil lbe tialing off our rebuilding staring a possible window then. So in teh mean time we throw money at some "big name" Foolish for mine.

we need to play smart. Lets sort out who we want , who we'll keep etc. Sort out the money ( contracts) for them. Lets make sure we can trade in the black. Thats how you do business. A big money bloke whilst sating somes apetite for cosmetic glory wil do nothinng for us except waste money.
