If he wants to stay in Victoria he has to nominate for the draft this year, or he's going to the Gold Coast next year.

This has "stay away W.A." written all over it.

I agree. It may just be the angle the journalist has gone with, though.

I'm confused. I'm pretty sure that next year GC17 has access to the best 17 y.o. kids,- or at least that was the proposal - I'm not sure it's been locked away. Isn't Watts 17 this year - therefor making him ineligible for them? Or have I got that all wrong?

STEELE SIDEBOTTOM

182cm 79kg

Midfielder with great skills who kicks well on both sides. Doesn’t waste possession.

Great name!

Will be watching all the games at the Dome tomorrow.

I'll grab a record and give a brief run down of what I saw. Odds are that I'll not notice a couple of players because they don't stand out heaps though so don't shoot me

If you get there for the early games watch the number 11 for Tasmania he is a very good footballer.

Shame Vic Metro vs WA isn't on around lunch time as its the only time I can make it down.

Anyone to watch out for from Tassie and Vic Country?

Posted

I won't be able to make it down there today but will be very interested in how young Jack goes, David Dickson on camera made the comment that Jack got ahead of himself and tried to do too many fancy things on Saturday against NSW and I am looking forward to how Jack responds to a pretty disappointing game.

On the Vic country Kids ,10 - Suban,16 - Sidebottom and 21 - Ziebell are three guys you should watch for and for Tassie I really Like 19 Aaron Cornelius who mainly plays at CHF.

The teams for todays matches are on the AFL Website Here

Cant go either. Busy.

Keep an eye 19 Aaron Cornelius for Tasmania. If we dont get Watts early on, I'm hoping we get Aaron with a 2nd round pick.

Is Vic Country's Jordon Roughead (#33, Ruck) Jarryd's brother?

I see our Scolarship player Teddy Strudwick cant even crack the NSW team yet.

I think Jordon is a cousin of Jarryd.

Teddy played last weekend; maybe he picked up a knock.

Matthew Deboer the midfielder for WA seems to be flying under the radar a bit....

Seems to be in WA's best very consistently.

Haven't seen enough of him to make an asessment though ?

Number 11 for Tasmania (previously mentioned) is Mitch Robinson and is a name we will probably be looking at for picks 18-21

Aaron Cornelius could easily slip to our priority pick as I think he has a few faults, namely he isn't big enough to play KP and is more a Brad Fisher type player. Has good hands and will be a better player than Fisher IMO, but his height and strength could be questioned.

Deboer is a certain top 10, perhaps under the radar here but not over in the wet. I'd wet my pants if he slipped to our pp pick ;)

I'd prefer to get a guy like Jetta (or Deboer), very quick mid with nice skills, rather than an inbetween sized forward who hasn't had a great carnival.

He's also eligible to play next year, too, IIRC.

There was a profile article on afl.com.au/mfc.com.au about him the other day.

Picked this up from AAP today...

Potential number one pick JACK WATTS says he's not yet sure if he'll nominate for this year's AFL national draft.

In a possible blow to clubs on the look-out for a young key forward, WATTS says he's yet to decide if he'll nominate as he still has another year to go before he completes Year 12.

In a further concern for clubs like West Coast and Fremantle, who might land the first pick this year, the 17-year-old WATTS says he loves living in Melbourne.

WATTS will this week play for Vic Metro against Western Australia in the final of the under-18 national championships, where all of the AFL clubs' recruiters will be on the look-out for the next batch of draftees.

Well lets hope he does nominate this year and that (if the MFC think he is suitable) we pick him in the 2008 National Draft.

He will probably spend the first year playing with our reserve/VFL team (Casey Scorpions?) mainly anyways so he will be given the time to complete his year 12 VCE.

Plus if he loves living in Melbourne...who better to play for than the Melbourne Demons! ;)

Larke Medal winner...enough said.

He moves like Hird, marks like Reiwolt and kicks like Brown.

Future CHF and captain of the MFC.

An absolute no-brainer.

Bloody hell.

I cant say I am that excited about him.

Didnt look too impressive in the Final.

Y_M, he was getting triple teamed in the contests, and the delivery to him was shithouse. I counted 3 kicks to him that were markable (allbeit hard) and he marked twice and still finished with two goals.

He's bloody quick off the mark, great hands and a great kick. Watts is my choice.

Now I'm definitely in the Watts camp.

Neither did Naitanui apart from the fact he jumps as though he's on a trampoline

watts looked shocking in the game i saw. every time he got the ball he tried to do too much or hesitated 1000 times in his head. he is almost the opposite of daniel rich who is assure of himself and kicks them from 60m. watts would have been in the bottom 5 players on the ground. I want someone who, if the delivery is bad, can still find the ball up the ground, or have an influence on the game.

i think people just love him because he was a good basketballer, and his agility 'in close' runs rings around the typical slow-witted football players.

Posted

He is bottom age, so he should grow another 1 or 2 cm's to 195 - 196cm's.

His body will fill out a lot more.

His brain will develop more.

Even with an average final game, where he DID show glimpses of pure class, he still managed to win best player of the champs.

It is clearly obvious there is an enormous amount of improvement left to go with him.

And it is improvement that you can can bet your house on, rather than the possibly speculative improvement/upside of Natinui.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
