Can anyone that was pumping up this guy’s tyres and advocating a trade for him last year explain why? Admittedly I haven’t seen him play much, but what I have seen leaves me seriously underwhelmed. He doesn’t mark above his head, doesn’t get to a contest and can’t find the goals… I’m not sure why he’s a forward, but I can completely understand why his opportunities have been so limited. I’d prefer Newton.

He can definately find the goals. Tarrant's arrival and his own injuries took away his spot in 07 but he was pretty good in 06, as he was breaking his way into the side.

He's pretty athletic and he can mark pretty well - sounds like one of those "back then he was good" things to say but you should have seen him in 06 up forward. I'd still like to get him, reckon he could be a handy third tall forward.

If we want him, he will be cheap as chips next year. Gut says Freo will take out the broom, and Murphy is not high profile enough to command any value trade week. He will be there in the PSD if he is out of contract, no doubt about it.

I asked myself that every time someone bought up the duds name in trade week, which seems like has happened the last 3 years

Yeah. PSD for mine. Looks like a developed Garland...

I must admit I thought the same thing Graz. I didn't consider Tarrant or Solomon, but I do reckon sharing a forward line with Palich would make life VERY hard. On those few instances where you got to it instead of him, if you screw up, people blame you for leading into Pavlich's forward line. Which runs roughly from the goal-line to the CHB. You also have to deal with Farmer's huge scone which is a hard thing to see around at the best of times.

But aside from my passive aggressive little remarks, I am curious about what happened to him. Could be worth a look. How old is he?

There is always a reason why clubs get rid of players, take out players that want to go home, when a club wants to trade someone. Freo wanted a quick fix with Tarrent/Soloman/Johnson/Bradley Kangaroos did the same with Thompson and Hay, Essendon have done it with Michael and others the winners are the clubs who trade them. Hawthorne got 2 first round picks from the kangaroos for Hay/Thompson and Collingwoo got one for Tarrent I wonder who the players are that they picked up.

Unless it is the come home factor or a players desire to play for a certain club who can play trading is dangerous and for us we need younger players to complement players that we already have.

I think your right about the broom, but there will I'm sure be retirements & heavy trading by Freo ahead of the compromised 2010 draft, as well as other teams with older lists trading for picks. This is a nuisance to us as it will probably cheapen our trade offs.

Ryan Murphy was pick 12 in the 03 draft (we got Sylvia 3) and McLean(5)).

So the age is right. If freo are looking to dump him, I reckon for a high draft pick would be a fair bet.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
