  1. I think the penny finally dropped for him early last year when he was asked if he wanted to play in the midfield or in finals. I would be interested to see if this newfound 'role player' could translate into the midfield in the form of a two-way running, tackler who is happy dishing off to a player in a better position. Those qualities were absent from his midfield game in the past. Having said that, I'm happy for him to continue his excellent role in the back line or wherever he is required. Happy to acknowledge there is proven midfield quality there.
  2. Dude - not being serious. I also can't see Dusty going to GC because he was drafted 2 years before Brandon Ellis and therefore they must be besties (as per the Age article)
  3. Ok, I could be talked around to this: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/chasing-the-sun-why-gold-coast-must-make-an-offer-to-lure-dustin-martin-20220725-p5b4cc.html Jackson to Freo, Dusty to Gold Coast, King to Melbourne - Freo can sort out the rest.
  4. I was hoping the same with Josh Kelly and Salem a while back..... Ah well
  5. Aren't they about to get Alwyn Davey Jnr?
  6. Lol, I'm pretty sure Freo aren't pursuing Jackson because of his current MVP status. He did something bloody special in the GF - the big stage. He performed way above expectations for a second year player and that's what matters if you're entertaining finals footy. I'm sure I could come up with a list of gun players that didn't perform in grand finals contrary to Shane Ellen's cameo, but both are irrelevant.
  7. I rate Jackson as an immense talent and most importantly, a proven performer in the GF. He's a mile off peaking so I wouldn't bother with current MVP's and I suspect Freo don't either, although I'm sure they will try and dampen his value utilising those very stats. It's reasonable to be drawing comparisons with Danger, Kelly and Cameron for trade value but it's skewed by the fact he has so many more years ahead of him. What would rival clubs have paid for Dangerfield or Cameron in their 4th year of footy? Who knows? If they're going to pay him ridiculous money then they can't offer up average players, but then again, we're dealing with Bell, so I'm confident he'll live up to his reputation and be hunting a second feather in his cap.
  8. You seem eager to talk down Jackson's ability and trade value. If Jackson is being offered anything like the money bandied around (which goes a long way to reflecting his value to Freo), they will have to come up with an acceptable trade. Lobb plus their first round pick, for example, won't cut it.
  9. He's 27 in March! He should've settled down by now.....I don't think he's going to.
  10. I'm inclined to agree. Bedford might not be troubling the statistician too often, but I'm not sure we can loose his speed and pressure - particularly with Melksham in the side. We know he can kick the odd goal and these may become more frequent as he acclimatises. I'd like him to form a lethal combo with Kossie in time.
  11. I would not have Lobb earlier than pick 30 - and that's being generous. IMO he's closer to steak knives than the top 10. Luke Jackson is a generational talent and proven grand final gun with 10+ years of footy ahead of him. Lobb is a 29 year old who's having a good year amongst many ordinary ones. I realise people are not talking direct swap but FFS his value isn't anywhere near first round.
  12. We'll have to agree to disagree. I have no problem with his tank, now or down the track. He flashes in and out of games because he's a small forward, like our others do. He's learning and improving how to impact games. I think the only thing that'll stop him being a serious MFC player is his kicking. I have faith in Chocco to make inroads.
  13. I disagree - he has excellent pace and a big tank. You'll see him in the top 5 or so endurance runners at the club, as well as the fastest top 5. His big let down is his kicking, in spite of him kicking a few ripping goals.
  14. So long as Port don't wear theirs - jumper clash
  15. Jeff Framer trade requires evening up still!
  16. I don't. Have a look at the Casey game v Geelong. Dunstan's kicking was atrocious. It's not like he'll be under less pressure at AFL level and I don't think I could cope with all the turnovers. I'd bring in Laurie to take on Harmes' role and Harmes to spend more time in the middle. Harmes is in good midfield form (provided he stops the excruciating fend-offs). Other ins for consideration: JVR - he had a great game v Geelong and I'd like to see him get one AFL game this year to give him a taste and reward his improvement. This game might be that one opportunity. Replace Bedford - I like the concept of our mosquito fleet, pressure forward set-up, but it's not working at the moment. Hunt - Another who played well for Casey and IMO, did enough to replace Bowey, who's wilting a bit. Rivers is another option here. In: Laurie, JVR, Hunt Out: Bedford, Oliver, Bowey Sub: Chandler, Rivers or Bowey
  17. And the world will be as one
  18. Sorry, but May and Salem were ordinary tonight
  19. Steven May has accidently swapped his contact lenses with someone else's. He doesn't seem to be able to see.
  20. He's still playing in the backline. I'd guess at getting back to how he was playing last year - so run and carry, taking the game on etc but also switching and working on his defensive role in the mens' department which has let him down at times this year. The camera work at VFL level is really limited, so it's hard to follow a player closely.
  21. He looks a lot more comfortable in the back line this year, but aside from that, I'd have to agree.
  22. Consider yourself backed up Nasher! So long as I don't have to schlep back through this thread.
  23. Clarry's been doing it for some time now. I have no problem with it at all. It doesn't alter their hunger for the contest and doesn't stop them smashing their opponents at the next encounter. Having said that, I would offer the hand up to Jack Ginnivan then drop him halfway - but that's just me.
  24. I was thinking that myself. However, if Dogga chooses to leave, surely we'll be doing exactly what they did to us and advise that Freo cant satisfy a trade and that we could only deal with West Coast or let them battle it out between them to come up with the the most attractive offer. If Dogga wants to go home after only 3 years, it's the least he can do. It won't be necessary though, when he signs on again.
  25. Agreed. The commentators struggled too. It took them until half way through the 3rd quarter to call George Grey's name correctly. I don't blame them either. It was a mess of colour and I doubt these guys get remunerated for their trouble.
