What Essendon proved last night is that they have A}a gameplan capable of matching top 4 sides. Or B} a bit more mental ticker than our team, to actually beleive they can beat a top 4 side. Or both. They had a draw with Carlton, beat Geelong and West Coast, and were good against the Pies. For all the rubbish they have produced over the last month, they can still hang there hats on those results. Whilst we can pat ourselevs on the back that we flogged interstate teams(and Tigers and Bombers) at the G, like we have for 4 years now under Bailey. History just keeps repeating.

I think the Bombers are showing tonight, that when you have a good attitude and intent, your age, body size and experience means very little. This is not to say that this will be a weekly event for Essendon, however, it is what we all ask as supporters of our club. An honest effort.

Get in the gym.

I could wear the Trengove decision, if I didn't have to see the exact same thing happen to Melbourne players 3 or 4 times after and have it not be whistled. The umpiring is as inconsistent as our team.
-
He also played well when he had a breif stint on the ball in the 2nd half as well.
-
I feel the same tonight as I did after the West Coast game last year. Easily the most disappointing performance this year for me.

Cale Morton - Rubbish Umpires - Rubbish Etihad Stadium - Rubbish Our attack on the ball - Rubbish Jurrahs intensity - Rubbish Our forward pressure - Rubbish Giving up when it gets to hard - Complete F**king Rubbish!!!!

We are still not as bad as Laker fans who are constantlt trying to argue that Kobe is better than MJ. They are the most annoying fans in the worls when it comes to that comparison, especially when there is none. However, these arguments happen all over the world. Whether it be in sports with drafts like ours and US sports, or in Europe where players are moved on for others deemed to be superior at the drop of a hat.

I wrote this in another thread "I am really surprised at the love for the tigers in this game. A closer look at their form line over the last month will show a terrible loss to Port, followed by a bye. They then went to Sydney and should have lost by 50 had the Swans have kicked straight. They then go to the Gabba, and blow the Lions out in the last 10 minutes of a game in which the Lions lost Clark for most of the game and Banfield late. Not a great month by my reckoning. Yes we have been spanked twice in our last month, but they were to probably the 2 best teams in the comp at the moment, and we have been undermanned, or had players just getting back after long layoffs. I am expecting a 5-7 goal win." I think people have fallen in love with Martin, and not really analysed the Tigers form of late. Demons are paying $6.25 to win 40+. Get on. Last time I felt this confident was the Lions game last year when we won by 50 at the G.

I wonder if the velvet plastic mallet was commentating for SEN today?
-
I knew about his leap and marking, but I am also really impressed with his field kicking. He kicks that flat, hard ball which really gets through the air with speed, which makes him even more valuable considering how many marks around half forward and wing I am hoping he takes in the future, where he will be delivering those kicks to our deeper forwards.

I like Rivers as a covering defender, so I would be tempted to bring in Warnock for Garland to cover Vickery, with Frawley going to Reiwoldt. Jamar in for Gawn(unfortunately). If Tapscott is ready, then Bartram has to go because he is a liablity with ball in hand, and in todays footy, you can't carry those sort of players.

Anyone watching Martin tonight? Wow-Wee!!!!!
-
I'd be just as happy with 8 tackles....

I would like to see Nicholson given a full run in the seniors this week. His form as a sub has been good and is deserving of a real crack. If Petterd is going to get dropped to Casey and played in the midfield(presuming it was under instruction), and he ends up with 39 touches and shows ball winning ability, then he deserves to be given a chance to see if he can bring this at the G on Sunday.

Especially when it is coming live from the Rooty Hill R.S.L....

They both stated that we were over the top in our celebrations. When they saw Watts hugging supporters, they thought we were going overboard and that Green should have pulled us into line. For all we know, they may have been Wattsy school mates, and not some randoms. Lloyd is not a bad commentator on football, as long as his scum team is not involved. They interviewed Bailey not long after on SEN this morning, and his reply was good. Something along the line of "If we play well next week it won't matter, but if we don't, it will be questioned". Not his exact words, but the jist of what his response was.

Second that. Lloyd had us penciled in for a loss in last nights game 4 weeks ago on "The Game Plan". He can go and suck a fat one!

Prediction for Queens Birthday
Jerry Lundergard replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the Pies will be up for this game, as there has been a fair bit of talk about us playing so well against them, I have a feeling they will want to come out and put that talk to bed. But sometimes certain teams just play well against other teams. Roos against Demons, Bombers against Saints, Demons against Pies........either team by under 15. -
I thought a thread to highlight the games of these to guys was in order. They cop a fair bit on these boards, and sometimes deservedly so, but tonight i thought they were both outstanding. Bennell attacked the ball well, and used his run and dash from the backline to set up many counter attacks. Morton showed much more pace than i thought he had tonight, and really showed what great footy smarts he has with deft little taps and knock-ons to put the ball out out to his or the teams advantage.

Don't forget the man with the moustaka may be making a return this week also. That alone should be enough to get us all along to the game with confidence.
-
Or........why don't we wait until we get a the majority of our plyers back, and see how we go in the second half of the season. Freo are getting destroyed by the Saints(minus Goddard 1 qtr in) in Perth. No one wants to use injuiries as an excuse, but they are. Teams may get up for an odd win with a heap of players out. But it will eventually catch up with you.
-
One positive is watching Fremantle today. It gives you some perspective as to what can happen to your team when they have been decimated by injuries. If Carlton last night did not have Simpson Scotland Murphy Robinson Duigan Carrazzo Yarran and we had 7 or 8 of our guys back in, would that result be reversed?

The problem with having Newton as a focal point of our forward line, is that players get sucked into kicking it to him, and then he gives us contests like the one against Gwilt last week. I would prefer another option.
