NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Bedford played exactly as we thought we would. Pace. Pressure. Goalscoring. After being sub for 8-9 games and dropped , he wanted to be given a chance. Goodwin and others seriously got this one wrong imv. He always looked like a player. This is not hindsight. We called it out over the past 3 years when he was on our list.

pace pace pace Bedford Goal Bedford thanks Goody for ignoring Toby so much that he left the club clearly has pace and goal sense … but goody preferred Spargo ahead of Bedford (ffs)

POSTGAME: QF vs Collingwood
last qtr … Fritsch non contact in marking contest with Quaynor (we called it and commented on it at the time) “That one when Quaynor went back with the flight, he should have been poleaxed. Quaynor said 'I think Murphy looked after me', no he didn't. Fritsch just didn't want to make contact. That's the difference between going all the way in finals.” "If I was Goodwin, I'd be showing that on Monday, saying 'if you do that ever again, even if you are our leading goalkicker, you are not playing. Put your body on the line.'" ***Luke Hodge*** I can’t argue. It was poor at the time and not an act of a desperate player.

Dees key forwards this week

TRAINING: Sunday 9th September 2023
Hopefully we will see 1- forward line strategy being worked on asap (including no one trying to kick goals from 50 metres out) 2- Trac and Viney and sparrow and Clarry and Hunter and Salem all learning how to hit a pass on a forward entry and not a Hail Mary aerial bomb into a 12 player pack !!! 3- players using the corridor and then turning and moving the ball on ; not slow and wide to Hunter and Langdon as safe slow nowhere options that lets defensive unit setup 4- Kozzzy crumbing a pack from front or behind and not on side 5- Grundy taking contested marks. (Need him this week. ) 6- goalkicking practice (in real action contests) and goalkicking confidence (including Trac needing daily sessions so he doesn’t handball off within 15 metre of goal) Hopefully we don’t see or hear 1- any more injuries 2- Goody talking about learnings again and again 3 - excuses … we have so much talent and underperforming in ‘22 and potentially ‘23

Goodwin has been here before!
Not as a coach … Goodwin will be answering questions if we again lose in straight sets. His eternal “we are working in connection forward of Centre “ is wearing thin after the 15th repetitive answer. But he’s signed until 2026 so job security assured.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
I am with you @Supreme_Demon I wanted players to really go at Maynard. To fly the flag for their mate. It didn’t happen. Viney is the only tough guy clearly in the team. I know we can’t throw punches but really strong tackles is the go. Go hard. We didn’t see it at all. Maynard is a piece of vile vomit as a bloke. Thug. Turns his shoulder to hit Brayshaw in the head. He wasn’t protecting himself. Duty of care. Careless. Severe. Head high. That’s 3-4 weeks.

Goal kicking accuracy 2023
V Pies - finals week 1 69 inside 50s. Yes 69. Melbourne 7.11 and EIGHT total misses. 7 majors from 26 shots at goal. Players panicked. Trac refuses to try to score when inside 30. Handballed off 3 times to players under pressure. Collingwood 9.6 and a single miss. We lost due to poor connection into fwd50 and inaccuracy. Shot ourselves in the foot. Forward craft is non existent.

Stuff drafting a kid, poach a key forward.
Yes yes yes. He’s a lad. A good bloke. But no idea on forward structures. They all lead to the same spot. Spread. Come up and free up space. Teach leading. Teach Fritsch to tackle. Teach kozzzy to burn off opponents. In Carey or Brereton or some true ex forward.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
Pies will argue that he was bracing himself. In the air, split decision in the act of smothering. Tom Browne the journalist was in his defence straight away the truth … he turned his body to make contact - chose to bump - in the head - high contact - severe impact - that’s 2 or 3 weeks.

My 3 word player analysis V Collingwood
Gawn - Huge Heart. Herculean effort. Huge Viney - flew the flag then tried but overall not at his best at all Petracca - nowhere in 1st half / lifted to almost bring us home in the second half, but learn to tackle , often easily pushed away or evaded Oliver - tried and tried and tried but many many irrelevant possessions , got better and nearly lifted us May - looked out of sorts early but lifted to one of the best Dees in the night - such passion and heart Lever - big on spoils , had a few brain fades , why didn’t we keep Turner in so Lever could be intercept defender Bowey - good and almost very good. Safe in disposal… an important game Rivers - where was his energy. No go tonight … was surprisingly quiet Salem - ummm he’s not the player of 2021 … looked slow and loose McVee - good game … Hill got 2 early but Judd was break even tonight Smith - had his chances - rather see him in defence McDonald - retire now … slow … cannot turn … 3 minutes - 2 goals vanRooyen - young colt - raw - overawed - will be suspended Fritsch - brain fades … almost good … his defence is non existent - players brush him off learn to tackle !!! Pickett - an almost game as usual - brilliant and poor in so many passages - could have won it but it’s often a case now of almost !!! Neal-Bullen - good in patches - a defensive forward Sparrow - nowhere in 1st half then better second half Chandler - did he play? Looked lost Hunter - gets the footy BUT slow to dispose of footy - must improve decision making Hibberd - very good as stopped Elliott all night Laurie - no no no was lost almost delist now Langdon - yes he was Sidebottom gimp but got much better in second half

PODCAST: QF vs Collingwood
Really ? It’s all about how we absolutely lost the game. The pies did not beat us. We beat ourselves. Huge disappointment. Huge. Some of the problems are same old same old. The effort in the 2nd half was huge but dumb footy and poor skills are deflating. Binman. It was 69 inside 50s to 37. 7 goals. Wow. That’s possibly a new record low. 10%. Most sides average 30-35%! Goody? 2022 and all 2023 “we are getting better and working on our connection forward of Centre”. Really. Really. It’s horrible !!! Let’s bomb the ball Inside 50 to a pack. Really. Madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result ! No one leads. No one hits a bullet pass. No one. No one. No one. Viney. Trac. Salem. Oliver. Sparrow. No one. No one hits a forward with a pass. No one lower their eyes. Another point is shots from 45-55 metres out. Success rate about 3%. But players keep stepping up. Tonight. Oliver. Smith. Rivers. Wow. It’s incredible. Madness again. Huge hearts. Huge effort. Can’t fault the effort. But dumb footy. Dumb. It’s the only word for it. There’s no system. No strategy. No improvement. Perhaps we can recruit elite midfield kicks. Maybe just maybe players who hit targets. Frustration Disappointment Gutted that’s honestly how all Dees supporters feel !!’

Farewell Brodie Grundy
Surely Grundy plays next week

This ‘Premiership era’ wasted inside 50
Simply here’s the message I don’t care how many stats you get I don’t care how many inside 50s I don’t care how many contested possessions if you can’t kick goals, you will lose !!! Simple. Trac looks to handball rather than kick goals Clarry kicks Hail Marys… even seen him kick a pass !! kozzzzy tries to kill the ball from 20 metres in front Teach them to kick Teach them to kick a goal. Brown. Retire Tmcd. Retire. Petty ✅Mcadam✅moniz Wakefield ✅
