Stuff drafting a kid, poach a key forward.
Thanks @dino rover unfortunately we’re 12 months too late. Reidy had a good 2022 season at Frankston. He was available last year and we had the opportunity.

Stuff drafting a kid, poach a key forward.
Agreed. Maybe a touch of desperation. We have JVR (good but developing) and probably Petty (backman turned forward) as the preferred tall forwards. Then it’s a mixed bunch of the aged/frail BBB & TMCD, cheeselike Schache, young Jefferson has potential and is about 2 years away, and maybe Fullerton as a ruck/forward support for Gawn. Mixed lollies options !!!

2023 NAB AFL DRAFT COMBINE
Have to say that Ry Cantwell has put his name forward now. Tested well across many of the trial tests. He’s a strong utility, wing or half forward link type player. Very good skills. Knows how to kick a goal. Good mark. He impressed in the finals and I thought he was one of the Ranges best in the GF. Might go late in the 3rd round in the draft as a late riser.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I am still onboard the Ryley Sanders train. I think Mckercher goes early and we have to hope Dogs pick Watson. Sanders is a classy skilled running mid who loves a goal and can hit a forward target. That’s exactly what Dees need.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
And Maynard’s acceptance speech started with “hi. I was delayed. I was just taking a [censored]”. Classy guy 🤮🤮🤮

If that’s the choice, it’s Curtin.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
So far we should save around $1.6 in wages across Grundy, Hibbo, Harmesy, Dunstan and JJ leaving, with circa $500k in spending in prospective McAdam and Fullerton. Probably $1.1m salary cap space by my calculations. Given cap is rising also, Dees must look at 2024 Free agent list and start talking to managers as soon as they are allowed.

Farewell James Harmes

Trade Rumours 2023
Agree. It’s just a bluff. Grundy will get to Sydney. It’s just at what number and how much of his contract is paid by Pies, Dees and Swans. AFL Sudoku at work. Grundys recruitment and departure after one year will be remembered as one of the biggest “head scratcher” trade deals done by the Dees.

Trade Rumours 2023
Yes they will have around 14 1st round picks if they add/hold the current selections (11 currently after removing Cunnington and Ziebell). That’s a huge group of talent to develop over the next 2-3 years. AFL might have to say sorry to other clubs in a few years. They’re good at apologizing 🤯🤯🤯

Farewell James Harmes
Doesn’t Melksham qualify as a long term injury? I think a train on player and SSP pickup might be the mature midfielder backup you’re referring to. Also Markov wasn’t good enough at Suns and now is a premiership player. Sometimes the environment change can be the thing that makes a youngster.

Farewell James Harmes
Maybe look at a train on player over the summer (such as Xavier O’Neill from WCE) and they would be the “injury replacement” for Melksham, who’s likely to be out until at least round 20-21 next year.

Trade Rumours 2023
James Frawley (aged 26) compo for FA to move to Hawks got us Angus Brayshaw. 👏👏👏 Frawley had been an All Australian, three times in All Australian squad, twice represented Australia in international rules, twice in top 5 in MFC B&F including runner in 2010. Mckay is not within a country mile of the player Frawley is/was at the same stage. AFL handouts to Kangas is transparent bias and favouritism to a high degree.

Farewell James Harmes
Yes four of these played a decent amount of top up games this year JJ 18, Grundy 17 , Hibbo 12, Harmes 9 Assume club looking at Laurie , Woey jnr, Howes as players to fulfill the depth positions held by Dunstan, Harmes and JJ.

Tom Hawkins
I love it get 3 walking frames and ramps put in at Casey fields. If BBB and Tmcd went, then you could ramp up interest in Hawkins but I’m not buying right now.

What's needed in 2024
@Fat Tony “Someone like Saad or Hunt who can play on after a turnover and get a counterattack going”. I recall someone called Hunt used to play with the Dees. He had decent run and rebound off half back. Oh well we have Salo, Riv, Bowsa so I think the cattle are there to rebound just “need the courage to use the farknnnn corridor more”. ie not slow and wide.

The Delisted Free Agent Thread
He has been starved of chances but likely he’ll go to Crows or Power and try to restart his career. I would agree to have interest if we had moved Tomlinson on. But it’s not a need as we have Adams coming through and potentially will look at a young KPD (O’Sullivan or Murphy) in this draft around 10-12 pick.
