Really bothers me that there is almost a celebration of the players that are being signed as top up players, in my opinion the top ups should not be selected ahead of any of the remaining listed players and only used in the case of injuries, remembering that this situation has come about as a punishment, and really it's just becoming a case of minimizing the damage.

Dom Tyson and Christian Salem I think

Saturday Talking Point: Gillon McLachlan has lost the plot
Ted Lasso replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Top up players are being picked to make the 22 stronger, this isn't fair, they should only be allowed to be selected for matches in the event Essendon cannot field a team out of their remaining players imo -
I suppose that by the end of his contract with Port you weil have an answer, but i still believe Jimmy could have been an AFL level player with us, having said that i am not unhappy with what we got in return for him and do believe moving on is the best thing he could do for himself.

Because you had a kid, come into one of the worst team of all times with the expection he would be one of the key pillars that would pull us out of it, but he and the club knew that his body wasn't going to be anywhere near 100% early on, and in his second year, he'd play a pretty solid game, then get dropped, was in and out of the team all the time, third year he got a solid run and started to show that he could mix it at AFL level a bit and then had a bad game and was dropped again. not an easy thing to handle for a young man unless you are a particularly resilient person.

Totally agree, i thought Toump showed flashes of being the type of player we thought he could be when we picked him, the game against the Saints last year is a good example, unfortunately his confidence was shot to pieces early on as well and he wasn't able to do it consistently enough, i really hope the new environment helps him

No, not at all, but i am interested in why he feels that way.

i am having trouble grasping your position on this SWYL, do you believe Jack is being given more chances to get back then his ability as a player reasonably reflects, or are you frustrated that it hasn't come out fully that Jack himself is partially responsible for the degree of injury and shouldn't get the level of sympathy he's geting?

My opinion is they were probably given advice that even if it was a guilty verdict, the bans would be much less, i think the one year caught a lot of people by surprise, simply because within the AFL boys club, they're used to negotiated outcomes rather than justice.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
Ted Lasso replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nathan Jones struggles with a tag and that is something he desperately needs to work on, i personally think he's a better player than cotchin but for him to go to the next level he needs to close the gap between games he is tagged in and games he isn't, find a way to have more of an impact when he's being closely watched. -
I see where you are coming from, but i am backing a recruiting team who has hardly missed a beat the last few years to have judge Weiderman higher then whatever our 2016 prospect might have been, if we make the finals or even go close, pick 7 could have been pick 10 next year, which might not seem like much but in the top 10 in the draft, it's pretty significant i reckon, especially with the player we got. and you can't run that off as a FACT, how do you know they didn't do any homework? you don't think it's possible they knew this was a risk and decided he was worth it? Roos clearly rates the kid, as does Goodwin.
-
I'd argue the vast majority of trade and draft periods have a fair bit of uncertainty, especially when the majority of players you bring in are draftee's, however gaining two top ten picks and a key forward of the quality of Wiederman i think is a positive Melksham i have never rated to be honest, happy to be proven wrong when he eventually plays. Bugg i think is a good solid role player we gave up very little to get, pretty happy with that Kennedy i rate, pretty happy to swap him and the Toump

Who will form our leadership group in 2016?
Ted Lasso replied to UltimateDemon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I still think it's to early to be appointing guys like Viney to the leadership group, and while i agree Trengove may not make it back, i think it'd be pretty hard to dispute that based on who we have, that he isn't in the best handful of leaders. -
From the training sessions i've been to, this is as good as i've seen Jack move, i didn't really see him in his first two years but he just looks so much quicker and more powerful

Who will form our leadership group in 2016?
Ted Lasso replied to UltimateDemon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Leadership group Imo Jones (c) Dunn (VC) Mcdonald Dawes Lumumba Trengove ( might seem a strange call, but the leadership he showed last year, on top of how good a leader he has always been, i see him as easily in the top 3 leaders at the club. ) -
I think the gap between the two would be pretty close, Dawes' experience probably gives me the edge, but when you have a key forward on the sort of money Dawes is on, who can't even manage 20 goals a season, and struggles to hold his marks, critics are going to come thick and fast. Personally believe Wiederman will play at some point in the first half of the year also but my round 1 team Jetta Mcdonald Dunn Salem Frost Lumumba Vince Viney Brayshaw VDB Hogan Kent Garlett Dawes Pederson Gawn Jones Tyson Petracca Bugg Garland Harmes

Christian Petracca's toe injury (in full training)
Ted Lasso replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
we couldn't get a priority pick after 37 wins in 8 seasons inc over 10 100 point losses within the two years, because we were found not guilty of tanking. Essendon get found guilty of drug cheating and get 10 top up players and a pick 1 handed to them we aren't dealing with common sense. -
It's a disgrace that Port Adelaide start 2016 with one less player because of this, Essendon are the only team who should be playing short, absolutely embarrassing how the AFL compromise it's stance against drugs in sport for $$
-
I wonder if this will lead to Dank trying to take Hird to court and a whole lot of truths coming out
-
Doubt it, I suspect they would be paid rookie or draftee wages and the biggest draw card would be playing at AFL level again, all be it in a [censored] side
-
I only list those because at one time or another all 4 were said to be interested in playing on, having said that I agree that a year with the bombers getting beaten every week really isn't the same thing.
-
The top up players will be interesting Jamar, Stokes, Lake, Kelly and guys like that could be handy replacements.
-
The only thing I remember being said is the players are " Highly likely" to take action against the club, and the EFC were keen to move on from this.

Isn't it time to condemn the Players Association?
Ted Lasso replied to Dees2014's topic in Melbourne Demons
I felt it was inappropriate for him to be voicing such strong opinions in the presser, WADA is still the governing anti doping code for the AFL and he has just set an example that it is okay to disrespect them, they did their job and the AFLPA unfortunately have no idea where the lines of their job begin and end, should be supporting the players who didn't cheat, not those who did.
