Nominations for the new Richmond Board
Ted Lasso replied to pineapple dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah, i guess it's one of those things that would be a case by case basis, i fully understand the angle of a huge long term contract for an injury prone player being hard to knock back, look at Mitch Clark, he got what 4-5 million dollars for about 20 games over a 6 year period -

I understand completely where you're coming from Rjay, but i guess the question is going to be, is that 1 mil worth giving up a chance at a flag or consistent finals? reckon Pav or Roo would trade 1 mil for a flag? it's just my opinion but if he went to Melbourne or Hawthorn he'd be playing in a finals side, and a genuine chance of playing in a premiership before he retires, that in itself would have to be a big carrot, and you could pretty confidently say Richmond are a little way off a flag. -

I guess that's the tough thing, a 23? year old getting offered huge dollars even though he is injury prone is hard to knock back, regardless of how he goes this contract sets him up for life, the down side is contracts don't mean much, look at Hamish Hartlett. -

I agree, but spitballing amounts, 500k is a pretty good salary in a team on the rise likely to play finals, or 750k to play through a re-build and a club in as bad a shape as RIchmond, imo they're every bit as bad as Brisbane in a lot of ways. if he wants to go there for money we're very lucky he's not coming to us haha -

If you were Dion Prestia how could you join this club? a senior coach with his career on a knifes edge, on the very edge of a 4-5 year re-build, star players looking at the door, total disunity on every level of the footy club, makes you wonder if he might go back to his manager and ask him to call clubs like Melbourne, Carlton, Hawthorn back and say a pay cut is worth not going anywhere near that joke of a club. -
we have plenty of this type and all of ours guys are better players than him, i hear Richmond are looking for more spuds?
-
It does seem strange that the vice captains messaging would be the exact opposite of the clubs, as you say it's either disharmony or a sign the decisions already been made.
-
My point though Rjay is a player like Spencer, i think would probably get more AFL opportunities elsewhere as a ruckman if he were to move, not many AFL quality ruckman will sign on to be backup if they have another option, and i think for Spencer to play more AFL footy for Melbourne that's what he'd need to do, be the forward/ruck, it would be extremely difficult for him, but i think that's the only way he gets a game without Max being injured.

we have a few blokes who could improve their kicking but i reckon with more of a focus on his kicking and marking he'd give himself a really strong chance of playing more games in that role next year

Jake should just train as a forward, he's a solid ruckman, but if he could clunk a mark and offer a bit up forward i reckon he would lock that position down as the 2nd forward/ruckman

CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS - VFL FINALS WEEK 1
Ted Lasso replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Casey would have to be a massive chance of taking out the VFL flag this year, the Pies look like their only real genuine challenger -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
Ted Lasso replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's a prediction, they will ask for our 2017 first rounder, we will offer our second rounder, it on it's own won't get the deal done because it's Essendon and we'll cough up a little more coz Goodwin absolutely loves Hibberd It may not happen, and it's not what i'd do but it's what i think will happen. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
Ted Lasso replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Predicting the trade to be #27, #45 for Michael Hibberd, #55 an early second rounder and a 10 pick upgrade should get it over the line. -
I always thought Neeld saw what the supporters saw, half assed efforts from the players and he thought a hard edge approach would teach them that if they don't take it seriously they were gone, he was in way over his head and i feel sorry for him, by all reports a great bloke.

What's the score? got the Essendon-Geelong game televised, which is nuts when there is a qualifying final at the same time, surely you'd want to televise the best game to promote the VFL as much as possible. -
I was just attempting to highlight the fact that a lot of people do seem to miss is the compensation was exactly the same, the variable was the position of the club, the band 1 compensation was based on the same formula and pick 3 imo wasn't part of some under the table PP scheme by the AFL i genuinely believe Frawley qualified as band 1 compensation and that's what we got
-
James Frawley recieved band 1 compensation Lance Franklin band 1 compensation the only difference is one team was rubbish and the other won the flag. the discretion might mean offering a different band pick if Buddy signed for 100k a year but clearly he's better than that

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Ted Lasso replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Old mate barry the drunken dockers fan yelled at me that Jesse Hogan is returning to Perth next year and my tea leaves confirmed this. lock it in. -
I think it would be fair for the MFC to ask why the Lions would get one and we wouldn't, we won 33 games in the 7 years when we got rejected, Brisbane has won 56 in the last 7 years. Melbourne and Brisbane have both lost good players like crazy through that period, Brisbane has traded a lot of top end picks for guys like Beams, Christienson ect. surely the AFL couldn't give them one without pointing out the legitimate differences, and i'm not of the opinion the tanking can be used we were found "not guilty" and fined and paid our punishments ect, and it was a whole new administration and so on. I think rejecting Mfc has set a precedent that will make this really tough for them.
-
Hard to look good as a development coach if your club trades all your first rounders for blokes like Yarren and has basically no young talent coming through the ranks.
-
There must be an issue with him, he's a bloody talented player and despite having an average year surely considering they signed him for what 5 years they have to back themselves to get him right trading him just seems weird.

Mitch Clark - did we dodge a bullet?
Ted Lasso replied to thesleepinggiant's topic in Melbourne Demons
that does ring a bell, i could have sworn i read or heard somewhere that we were into Varcoe and he wasn't keen to come to us.
