CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS - VFL FINALS WEEK 1
Ted Lasso replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
What's the score? got the Essendon-Geelong game televised, which is nuts when there is a qualifying final at the same time, surely you'd want to televise the best game to promote the VFL as much as possible. -
I was just attempting to highlight the fact that a lot of people do seem to miss is the compensation was exactly the same, the variable was the position of the club, the band 1 compensation was based on the same formula and pick 3 imo wasn't part of some under the table PP scheme by the AFL i genuinely believe Frawley qualified as band 1 compensation and that's what we got
-
James Frawley recieved band 1 compensation Lance Franklin band 1 compensation the only difference is one team was rubbish and the other won the flag. the discretion might mean offering a different band pick if Buddy signed for 100k a year but clearly he's better than that

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Ted Lasso replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Old mate barry the drunken dockers fan yelled at me that Jesse Hogan is returning to Perth next year and my tea leaves confirmed this. lock it in. -
I think it would be fair for the MFC to ask why the Lions would get one and we wouldn't, we won 33 games in the 7 years when we got rejected, Brisbane has won 56 in the last 7 years. Melbourne and Brisbane have both lost good players like crazy through that period, Brisbane has traded a lot of top end picks for guys like Beams, Christienson ect. surely the AFL couldn't give them one without pointing out the legitimate differences, and i'm not of the opinion the tanking can be used we were found "not guilty" and fined and paid our punishments ect, and it was a whole new administration and so on. I think rejecting Mfc has set a precedent that will make this really tough for them.
-
Hard to look good as a development coach if your club trades all your first rounders for blokes like Yarren and has basically no young talent coming through the ranks.
-
There must be an issue with him, he's a bloody talented player and despite having an average year surely considering they signed him for what 5 years they have to back themselves to get him right trading him just seems weird.

Mitch Clark - did we dodge a bullet?
Ted Lasso replied to thesleepinggiant's topic in Melbourne Demons
that does ring a bell, i could have sworn i read or heard somewhere that we were into Varcoe and he wasn't keen to come to us. -
Mitch Clark - did we dodge a bullet?
Ted Lasso replied to thesleepinggiant's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am not 100% sure and i reckon Mach5 would have a better idea, but i reckon we were open to taking Varcoe for Clark but he wasn't keen to come to us. -
I think the only position you'd want him in is head of development and we already have a pretty handy coach filling that role I think he'd be a pretty good choice to head coach the Lions
-
I don't think we'll get very far as a club if we're picking up guys like this, i wouldn't have thought any of the above would be in our top 30 players let alone best 22.

Huge chance to end up at Carlton, but rate the kid and would love him
-
Hypercritical scum had a go at the MFC and questioned our integrity and accused us for breaking the rules and chasing Michael Hibberd in season ... only to do the exact same thing to the Eagles with Mitch Brown and Eric Mackenzie, which the WCE are rightly not happy about on the eve of finals. They are hands down the worst team in the comp on just about every front.

for the MFC, or for the Lions?

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Ted Lasso replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could we give Jesse a run at CHB? he's smart, got some speed and played a good amount of footy in defense. i rate his ball use and his contested marking has always been strong, maybe playing the Role Watts does a bit more and getting down back and helping would do him some good, getting his hands on the ball a bit more and feeling like he's impacting the game without kicking goals. -

So round 1 next year the speculation starts? or is it only two years out for Hogan? -
I actually think he played some very solid footy at times this year in a really poor team, for the right price i'd certainly have a look at him.

That's a really interesting dynamic in the whole situation, Tom Boyd as an example is a developing player, that's how he's being treated at the dogs, but he's on a million dollars a year so the pressure of the contract is huge, not sure you can really take the pressure and expectation off and then pay someone big bucks. -
Thanks LH, i did jump to an assumption there, apologies for that, i just can't remember who else posted about Dion.
-
I assume you're referring to me there, i called early last year that we'd chase Dion, that was proven to be correct, i also said that chase would continue this year, which it did, and i can assure you now that the chase went right until a huge offer came from RIchmond, we wanted Dion if he was at our price, but weren't going to pay overs, there seems to be an attitude by some Demonlanders that if someone posts that we're after a player and we don't land that player that the posters credibility is shot forgetting that they were correct about the chase, clearly we chased Dion, but for a player like that we were never going to be the only side and we were beaten for him, it happens, but if we "went cold" on Dion it was only quite recently, the club would have quite a long list of players we chase every year the % that we actually land would be less than 3-4% of those

Ted Lasso replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
are you reading my comments? i just said in another post, dropping someone for form is different to trying to pressure a decision, i don't dispute that if he is underperforming he'll spend time at casey, but if he's not he plays seniors it's pretty simple. -

I reckon if you read back through the posts you'll find the answer, i think Jesse will stay and it's a non issue but i was responding to another posters comment. -

sure but that's a different discussion, there is a difference between dropping someone for poor form and dropping someone because they aren't sure if they'll stay and go at years and trying to pressure a decision. -

I have always said i think Jesse will stay so it's a non issue, but... the club in a hyperthetical world can't do much, Jesse has a contract and the only way he gets traded is if he wants to, you can't play a guy like Jesse at Casey for not making a decision fast enough when they still have a year to run on their contract, it would make every player avoid us, and those already on our list very nervous. -
Richmond has a core group of footballers?? not sure you could call Alex Rance a core group. he should just admit what blind freddy can see, it's a financial decision, 250k a year extra is not something you scoff at when you're a young, injury prone footballer.
