Please tell me your kidding? I would do that trade in a heartbeat. If not, you've just given a prime example of people getting so stuck up with their preconceived notions and ability to significantly overrate the draft and the "number" of a draft pick. Please look at the top 10 of the 2012 draft and tell me if you would trade pick 2 for any of those players (ideally midfielders), and if you say YES for Wines or Whitfield I would rate David Swallow just as high. Other than that it's unlikely pick 2 in the draft would give us anyone superior than those, along with the possibility of drafting a spud and having to put an additional three years of development into them. As another comparison would you do that trade for a fit Andrew Swallow (I'm sure 99% of demonlanders would)? If so at the same age Andrew Swallow hadn't exactly burst out of the blocks, he did in his 4th and 5th seasons, like many young talents.

I agree and I know his credentials, although it would be completely idiotic to give the key midfield coaching role to someone who has NO coaching experience. He was an excellent on field leader, by both influence and order. However with the situation the club is in we can not afford to place blind faith in someone without the coaching experience. If the club is back to this position in three years time, I don't know how it will survive after these first two strikes under Bailey and Neeld. I'm sure Ling himself would do a better job than Brian Royal, although Ling will be more suited as the Midfield Development Coach (1 under the Midfield Coach or his left hand man). With the club going forward I want to see three experience heads as the Defensive, Midfield and Forward coaches. Then their assistants/ development coaches who can be your Lings, Kirks, Browns etc. The development coaches (assistants to the Defensive, Midfield, and Forward coaches) should be young and enthusiastic (e.g. fresh from the game and well respected by all, like Ling). These blokes will be fundamental for developing the players skills and instilling a culture with the right attitude to train hard, play hard, and never give in.
-
As much as I appreciate Ling I don't want him as a key coaching figure. Simply because he has no coaching experience. I want him on board, however he would be more suited as the midfield developelment coach (left hand man to the midfield coach).

Jack Watts - More Discussion (for those who haven't had enough)
ignition. replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
I just heard it on SEN before, I loved Derms response and a few of the other blokes. I hope the club grills him for it. He is in no situation to hold the club at ransom, the club is bigger and greater than him. If he chooses to play these games I hope the club tell him to pi$$ off and start getting the best possible deal for the MFC. EDIT: typo -
If Pick 2 is on the table and Watts wants out, I would gladly trade those two (+ exchange later picks etc.) for any two of these players: Rory Sloane, David Swallow, and/or Tom Rockliff. Then fingers crossed we obtain a priority pick to select Boyd, and have he and Hogan tearing up the forward line for the next decade.
-
If the club could trade in two quality midfielders, like Sloane and Swallow for Pick 2 (Pick 3 with a PP) and Watts + the exchange of later picks or additional mid-range players I certainly wouldn't be complaining. It would also make me feel at ease with the selection of Boyd if the club is to obtain a priorty pick (PP).

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
ignition. replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'll be frank about Essendon, they cheated and have been caught. I just hope they are severely punished. AOD9604 is a small synthetic peptide that mimics the active site of the Human Growth Hormone (HGH) - Yes the same hormone Stallone used to bulk up for his Rambo 6 film (HGH that is). The active site is the region of the protein (hormone) that binds to its corresponding receptor and activates an internal proteomic signaling cascade. Downstream of this activation (via the IGF1 and IGF2 intermediate proteins, also hormones) promotes an increase in skeletal mass, muscular mass and lipolysis (fat burning). Generally speaking the media have hyped the term peptide as a bad thing, they are not. Proteins are comprise of peptides that are made up of amino acids. There are more than 60 thousand proteins within our bodies with various functions. It just depends what these synthetic peptides have been designed to mimic (e.g. HGH is and was naturally essential for our physical development as we've aged). Yes it is an early call, however if within the football world it must be played like a game of chess, moves planned in advance with countless variables. Not sit around and think of a plan once the moment strikes. One reason Wellman went back was to rejoin the old boys club alongside Hird and Thompson. There is a strong chance both those two will not be coaching next year. If Wellman escapes any form of punishment, I would take him back in a heartbeat. I consider him and North Melbourne's defensive line coach some of the best in the competition (excluding general team defense like Sydney and Fremantle). On another note who else within the club could be poached? Do the Dons have any good quality members within their recruiting department that will be starved of draft selections for the club bringing the game into disrepute? Think outside the box people, there will be quality staff members within that club that had nothing to do with the scandal, although I'm sure the related environment has made them feel unpleasant or affected their ability to perform their job. Quality staff members can be poached.

DISCLAIMER: This thread is designed to discuss the wake of the Essendon drug scandal, and what the MFC can make of it. This thread is not designed to discuss their supplement program or the use of AOD9604, if you would like to discuss these topics please do so via the links below: http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/34330-jobe-took-banned-drug/page-16#entry788749 http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/34599-the-essendon-crisis-deepens/page-6?hl=aod-9604#entry794606 http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/33591-wada-confirms-aod-9604-is-a-banned-substance/?hl=aod-9604 The Dons about to burst at the seams, Sean Wellman (again) perhaps? With the the Essendon drug scandal coming to a close, I ask what can the MFC make of this? Can the club take advantage of the Dons exploding? Can the club poach talented assistant coaches or other staff that may escape or have no relation to any form of punishment? In comparison I look at our club, we are on the re-build trying to secure an established coach who will likely overhaul the coaching department. Ideally I think we need to replace Brian Royal (midfield coach) first and foremost, however it got me thinking back to Sean Wellman (previous defensive coach currently at Essendon). Sean Wellman was an excellent assistant coach, in 2010 he had the defense purring, James Frawley was an All-Australian and from reports he built very good rapports with the players. He then went back to Essendon because that's where he played for the most of his career, and there in my view I think he has done a very good job of improving their defense. So I for one would like to see the club poach him and hope he can be drawn away from the shell shocked Bomber hanger. I'm sure if he returned, faith within the direction of the club would be renewed in James Frawley and obtaining his signature next year (out of contract) will not be as difficult. I also think we would see Garland and McDonald step it up a level.
-
He's a pass for me. Only really good for two goals a game, nothing phenomenal, may look better in a better side as a third tall (like a Jack Gunston) but that's about it. Not exactly what we need and will just be another list clogger for us. As we all say we need mids, he won't fit with us.

Fantastic stats here (plenty of draftees also): http://www.scpaige.com.au/draftees-in-focus-dominic-sheed/ I originally rated others ahead of Sheed, although now I would take him in a heart beat above all other midfielders in this years draft. Fingers crossed we get a concession draft pick to use on Aish, Scharenberg, or Dunstan... heck maybe even Freeman or Bontempelli... I'm struggling to rank and can't decide with the limited stats. Glen Bartlett the new MFC President? (It would seem not yet)
ignition. replied to cooko's topic in Melbourne Demons
Whenever I think of Jay Clark reports I think of Anchorman and Sex Panther "60% of the time, it works everytime". -
I agree and like your points, although I don't think one player whether traded in or drafted in will significantly improve our midfield anytime soon... unless if his name is Gary Ablett (I wish). I think we can all agree we need midfielders, hopefully we obtain a concession pick to get two. If we are to trade one away there is only one player I would trade it for that should be out of contract at seasons end and that is Tom Mitchell of Sydney. He plays as if he has 100 games under his belt, he's built like a rock and yet he is still very young and has a decade and a half of football ahead of him (very good mates with Viney growing up). As for any potential confession pick I would be happy with Sheed or Aish, although i wouldn't complain with a Dunstan or Freeman either.

I read the title thinking it was for potential future F/S recruits. I guess not, just a ridiculous name for a development program that should of already been ingrained into the club.
-
Some very poor stats there from some of those senior listed players. I expect to see Gillies, Tynan, Jetta, and Davis (also MacDonald) at the top of the order for de-listing.
-
I'm all for it, wrap him up in cotton wool for now so he can come into pre-season fresh and ready to go.
-
He actually looks like he has physically developed a little more since the start of the season, maybe an extra kg or two. EDIT: From the interview that it.

Where can i find this story in more detail?

I presume you and old dee are not members or don't realize the significance of the MCC and MFC relationship?

Hmmm interesting, I better check my mail. One way or another I will choose a MFC supporter.

Just another defeat to me. I re-watched the game last night via AFL.com and found myself getting incredibly frustrated. The skills we appalling, I do like how the boys are taking the game on and showing some heart and passion for four quarters but my gosh I'm glad no one else was around as I watched it. Rodan, Nicholson, and sorry to say but Toumpas (mainly second quarter) drove me mental.
-
If he can't get a contract at the crows or anything more than 1 year then why not as long as it's not a ridiculous price. He was in incredible form last year, although its slightly dropping off now I would still take him on a two year contract in a heart beat.
-
I hope he is considered for our second round pick. He made the All Australian team, the skill is definitely there, I presume he will have a similar personality and work ethic to Nathan I just hope he slides enough for us to pick him up.
-
I don't care what people say about him, I really respect him. He recommitted a few years ago when we were rock bottom, and he intends to do so again. He has remained loyal to the club over his time, I really hope he can put a stella year together by the end of his career. I know I will be there the day he gets chaired off the ground after his final game.

Ahhh Ben-Hur one reason why I keep coming back to demonland is because of your frequent avatar updates.
