  1. Maybe but good sportsmanship nonetheless.
  2. It seems Rich players deliberately did not attack Ablett's shoulder when he came back on. Also when they formed the guard of honour for him to walk through each and every player removed their premiership medals. Respect appropriately shown on and off the field. Don't like Rich but credit where credit is due.
  3. The 'Rumour' thread a reference to 5 years - bit long imv given his age and unless there were conditions re injury or other triggers.
  4. 5 years to Ben Brown would be a surprise. Makes him 33 at the end of his contract. Hopefully there would be triggers for last year or two.
  5. Why are umpires wearing yellow shirts and black shorts with Richmond playing...? Terrible.
  6. Love anyone who wears the red and blue ??
  7. Re the bolded part. The good guys? Not if we play them out of position or select then omit them until they get so frustrated they ask to move. There are some on the trade table that fall into this category. Hopefully, it doesn't happen to Brayshaw, Harmes and a couple of others who looked 'out of favour' this year. It could be better for the culture to cut the 'out of favour' ones lose. Less potential for disruption among their mates and other players.
  8. Sydney have a different game plan to us. More man-on-man and less zone. Longmire tends to use his sweepers to get the ball out of d50 rather than rely on the talls to get it out. So TMac's kicking wouldn't be such an issue.
  9. Can see the attraction for the Swans. Port seem very interested in Alir Alir and TMac has the flexibility to play his role: back, fwd, relief ruck.
  10. Looks like Beams will retire and strike a deal with Collingwood on the remaining two years of his contract. That should free up some decent sal cap space for: Pay DeGoey? Keep Treloar? Trade someone else in?
  11. Surely this can't be allowed re Crouch: "Crows appear happy to allow him to walk - as long as they get a good enough draft pick, which will be based on the size of the deal Crouch signs at his new home. The mooted deal would see Adelaide trade for Jimmy Webster and Luke Dunstan, in exchange for “steak knife” late draft picks, to take on their salaries and free up space at St Kilda. The Saints in turn would pay Crouch slightly more money, ensuring Adelaide receives a first-round pick in compensation - which would be Pick 2 - rather than Pick 20 or worse if the compo fell to the end of the first round". brad-crouch-st-kilda-adelaide Isn't that blatant draft tampering?
  12. Excellent posts! Very articulate. Are you sure you are a film maker and not an economist in disguise ?
  13. Given what was to come he probably is better off out of North albeit on less $$.
  14. Yet, by all accounts the Board and senior management didn't do much to help him at the hub. They left him and a first year GM Football (Brady Rawlings) without a lot of support. Shaw's post game press conf were heartbreaking to watch. When he said things like "I am at a loss..." it was imv, a cry for help. Help that didn't come or came too late. For a variety of reasons, Shaw had one of the toughest coaching jobs this year. Hopefully he gets well soon.
  15. I don't know but I'm sure there is some there thru his sub committee. Whether it extends to football and non financial stufff only insiders would know.
  16. Rather cryptic, no?
  17. Yeah, I haven't heard much about our governance protocols over football matters either. Which makes me wonder whether we have them or they are inadequate and maybe Brad's role is to look at 'best practice' and implement and or update what we have. fwiw I include 'risk' in governance as risk can occur in any part of the club. Good governance and protocols are there to reduce risk. I hope our football governance is up there or becomes like the standards the best clubs set. Agreed there is a line that the board member shouldn't cross and from the outside it looks like it has been crossed at North and Adelaide, to their detriment.
  18. The best thing the 'football' Board member can do is stay out of football decisions or day to day stuff. Look at the mess at North from their football director calling the shots and to a lesser extent Roo at the Crows. Strategy, governance, protocols, review and re-set protocols/strategy is the cycle of the board/sub committee role. Otherwise they have the wrong staff running the show.
  19. Its been all too obvious this year and has cost us games. After 4 years do you see Goodwin developing a plan?
  20. Do you know if we have similar board governance protocols for the things football like Carlton and Geelong do? Or something we need to introduce.
  21. Folks might have inappropriate expectations of the Board and its members. Its primary role relates to strategy and governance re football performance, financial performance etc Implementation is the role of Pert and his GM's. So I wouldn't expect to see a specific impact from Green on the football department. That is what a GM Football is for. Several examples of football related board roles from other clubs (Don't know how we work). Note: this isn't an exhaustive list at those clubs. Carlton: Board/sub committee signs off on game plan/strategy and key trades. Geelong: Board/sub committe signs off on List Management strategy. It has governance protocols in place where it reviews/endorses any player contract which is: 1) > than 3 years, 2) a player > than 30 and 3) > than $2m. I would like to think that Greens' role is to review the Board governance protocols around football and other football matters and recommend improvements, if necessary. And work with GM football for regular performance reviews to report back to the Board or a sub committee. For the Board to want a football person on the board signals they think there is work to be done on connections between the football department and the Board. Otherwise it would hint of tokenism which I do not think would happen.
  22. SEN interview: stephen-silvagni-slams-blues
  23. Most reviews I've seen have him as an inside mid or half back. In what position would we have him in? Thanks in advance.
  24. If Mahoney stays as GM Football, it will be interesting dynamics with Green. Mahoney was one of Green's coaches and then Football Manager when Green was moved on.
  25. Using 'average' was my way of giving a reference point to Tomlinson's package. I guess I have a different view on Tomlinson being a best 22 when Petty returns and if we get Brown/Smith. Especially as he still has 3 years to run on his contract. If we paid all our best 22 around $500k we would blow our sal cap by quite a few million.
