Didn't know that. Has any club done that? I recall that Hawks and Geel received an exemption to take a pick in the 4 year window but that is different to your suggestion. Would imagine a club needs a very good reason.

We can't trade our future 1st unless we get one back or a future 2nd back.

Farewell Mitch Hannan
He isn't. Ess played a bit of dirty pool to get Wright cheaply and GCS blinked.
-
Rumour only file ...
That means we currently hold a 1st round, a 3rd and a 4th round pick in 2021. Edit: Just received a future 3rd rnd for Hannan.

As per my post above. Dew just seemed to refuse to play him. With all the AFL assistance with draft picks and draft free priority zone selections the can afford to offload players for peanuts. I think he will do well at Ess so they are more likely to get the 2017 version.

GCS was a mess for the first part of his career up there. Nonetheless he has played some excellent games. Hasn't had a clear run it and fell out of favour with Dew. Will benefit greatly from a more positive environment, altho must say not sure that is Essendon. At least there he will get regular games to show what he can do.

TMac on the Trade Table?
TMac was an Ess ploy. I guess various clubs play those games but but I think it is low life tactic. Hope Tom didn't take their advances seriously.

Trade Targets
Its amusing that Pies and Ess are trying to concoct a deal that will entice the Bulldgos to play their game: Dunkley to Ess, Treloar to Bulldogs and Bulldogs 1st round pick to pies. Problem is Bulldogs aren't interested! Treloar to Bulldogs is commentators 'connecting the dots' but apparently they haven't even spoken to him.

Trade Targets
With a few teams digging in their heels and not meeting unreasonable trade demands may see some high(er) profile players stay at their club. Port losing interest in Fantasia. No apparent takers for Treloar, Phillips, Cox, Stephenson (Collingwood). Bulldogs intent on keeping Dunkley No takers for TMac Caldwell stay at the Giants? There are others that are stalemates that will probably get done: Saad, Cameron. Would expect pies to cave in to make two of their players tradeable. This trade period is rapidly becoming a fizzer.

Just looked at Hind's wiki page. He was drafted by Saints from Ess VFL team so he will probably take their offer unless we have offered overs.

Can't see the attraction. Mature age recruit who has played about 20 game in two years. I would rather Neal Bullen, of whom I am not a fan.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
Rapt with that. I really want Oscar to find a new home. He has more to offer.

TMac on the Trade Table?
Can't say I agree. We re-contracted Tom in 2018, his FA year when several clubs were pretty keen on him. So the club had to go some way to meeting the market so I'm not overly critical of the $, especially if it was part of a back-ended deal (not saying it was). What concerned me more was the 4 years (apparently without triggers) knowing that he missed the first part of 2018 after double ankle surgery and had subsequently injured his toe.

TMac on the Trade Table?
Pies have said they won't be 'going down that path' of taking TMac. But they have Cox on the table (Sydney have some interest) so terribly short of tall fwds. They are chasing Gunston but it sounds like it will be hard to pry him out of Hawks. It seems mfc will pay a fair chunk of his salary so wonder when the deadline is close and Pies are short of talls if they will take him.

And Ess has so many trades in train and playing a tough 'poker-face-you-blink-first' game by asking the world on outbound Saad/Fantasia and low balling inbound Wright/Caldwell then refusing to budge. Not to mention they are trying to get Dunkley. It ties up Carlton, Port, GCS, GWS and WBD. Not to mention some small side deals they might have eg Hind at Saints and maybe TMac at mfc. A domino involving Ess needs to fall soon. Of all the teams to be the bottleneck Ess is the worst one to wait on to move.

I'd think all clubs do this to some degree. They know that the TPP has increases built into it. Back loading is the equivalent of investment 'ponzi schemes' (Eventually you can't pay what is outstanding and the whole thing collapses. Works great in growing markets but it can quickly go into reverse). Covid related TPP reductions has brought those plans undone. Collingwood's problems seem linked to the Beam's trade, apparently at Eddie's behest and the arrival of a new List Manager whose experience was as a player manager so may not be too adept at balancing the numbers.

TMac on the Trade Table?
SEN reporting that Ess have made an approach. Reportedly we are prepared to pay more of TMac's salary than GCS are of Wright's. Sam Edmund said the TMac move could just be a ploy to get Wright from GCS on the cheap. Ess had offered GCS a future 4th round pick for Wright so can't imagine we would get much more. But at least we would have the list spot and some sal cap relief. Can't say I trust Ess and they have had plenty of time to make a move so wouldn't get too excited.

I was answering a poster's question as to who we had from SA that Adelaide might be chasing. And as I said I wouldn't want to lose Petty but do we have more than a handful of players who are 'untradeable'? Winning awards, being in contract or in the leadership group is no barrier to being traded: Dunkley (premiership player, VC), Stevenson (won Rising Star), TMcDonald (ex leadership group), Hogan (won rising star) etc etc etc There may be other reasons such players get traded but their achievements aren't a barrier.
-
Rumour only file ...
fwiw ANB, Petty and Sparrow are all from SA. Wouldn't like to lose Petty for a variety of reasons but none will be the difference of winning a flag in the next few years so all tradeable. If anything comes of a trade with Adelaide hope we drive as hard a deal as they did with Lever.

Can't say BB. All I can say is I wouldn't make it up, not even for a 'rumours' thread. Not my style.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 43 & Future Rd 4 Pick
With so many NGA, F/S and Academy players touted to go in the top 20 a lot of mid/high 2nd round picks will be used to match the bids. Every chance that pick #43 will become somewhere around the mid-30's. So a good swap from #53 to #43 shrinking to #35 +/-.

Using Harmes as run-with and drift forward is consistent with Pert's comments that coaches need to maximise the strengths and attributes of our existing players. My translation: stop playing them out of position. I'm not surprised about the culture of 'different rules for 'different players'. I've heard this several times from outside sources in recent years. And it was something fairly obvious to many DL's especially when it came to team selections.
