James Frawley .. need him to commit
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to Demon_Tingles's topic in Melbourne Demons
anyone who doesnt think Frawley is very seriously considering leaving is delusional. he could be influenced either way depending on how next season pans out. gld hes RFA and not UFA -
matty bate used to put some impressive VFL performances in.
-
You could insert neelds name in there. pendlebury thought he was an incredible coach. Dew might be great but i cant see why the club needs to commit 3 years out when they have no idea what other options may be available come the time. im not disagreeing with dew supposed credentials as i have no idea. i do however disagree with the idea of committing to something when we have no idea what other opportunities may present themselves. what if Dew is ok but another sst at the club shines or clarko wants to coach the dees etc. my point is that i feel the better strategy wouldve been to hire the coaching team, announce that in the next couple of years the club will be assessing options to replace Roos and then take it from there.
-
i am perplexed as to why this succesion plan thing and Dew in particular, is not being howled down. What exaclty has Dew done to be nominated as the Mfc coach, which will be the most important placement in the history of the club, in 3 years time?! isnt he sydneys midfield coach? wasnt neeld the pies midfield coach? why is it automatically assumed he will be good enough for such a vital role in teh clubs future? he wasnt even considered by many to even be in the running until the big names nominated other jobs. he doesnt have runs on the board yet the club is coming out and saying that he will be it. i really dont agree with this. i agree with succession plans but not when it means naming a guy 2 or 3 years out. this is fraught with danger. hire some coaches then in 3 years time decide which one is best. what if in 3 years time our midfield is still average and one of the scott boys or ross lyon is on the market. then what?!! stick with the decision made 3 years previously?? it reeks of amateur hour. MFC, just focus on getting the most out of the Paul roos years then make an informed decison when the time comes.

Colin Sylvia going ... going ... GONE!
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to burfy174's topic in Melbourne Demons
Exactly! the flippancy on this thread is incredible. FA is going to be like a leaking bucket for the small clubs. as the water leaks people will comfort themselves by saying its only one drop but nevertheless the bucket is still draining. Rivers, Moloney, Sylvia, Frawley(?), ...........and so on and so on. It s a slow bleed but you cant keep discounting the significance of senior players leaving every year . i agree that sylvia never set the world on fire but sylvia is not the significance of this. next year Frawley. you could see it in the interview on the website. . hes already gone. i saw it in sylvias press conference mid year. in fact its becoming really obvious now when players are saying they want to stay but are really planning on leaving. its almost like they are all getting the same media training. i pick it every time. -
Colin Sylvia going ... going ... GONE!
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to burfy174's topic in Melbourne Demons
The fact it's Sylvia thats going is irrelevant. The symbolism of yet another senior player leaving to chase success is a very dark omen for the future of the club, the future of the other small clubs and the future of the competition. FA has opened pandoras box and I fear the disparity has now grown to such a level that the lid on this can not be closed. The comp is entering the point of no return. FA will create one way traffic for the quality senior players wanting a flag. in return the smaller clubs will be getting the Rodans and the Byrnes from free agency. A self perpetuating and widening gulf between the haves and the have nots. MFC lack of success in recent years was the worst timing possible and this period may be looked upon in future years as the straw that broke the camel's back. -
YOURE F%$^&ING KIDDING arent you? that guy is delusional

hogan viney toumpas generation will be the ones to reap the rewards if they come. sad to say it but everything is stacking against clubs like MFC to improve. the "premiership window" theory is no longer valid. With FA , the big clubs will stay up there, constantly topping up with guns. theres no guarenteed fall back to the pack for the big clubs anymore. just go buy a fyfe or a franklin and away you go again.
-
yes i am. they will be very late 20s or early 30s by the time MFC is a serious contender if at all. we are MILES away.
-
gee i really hope we hang on to Fitz. love the way he goea about it and i reckon he has a real future. clark and dawes wont be around for any future success. Fitz hogan watts would still be pretty handy

2013 Player Review - # 6 Chris Dawes
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Chook, totally agree. he doesnt need to be a star to provide benefit to the club. i know the case against is captaincy with his injury concerns but watch that video where he eyeballs all the players after the final siren. hes got leader written all over him. he really is the type of bloke youd follow in to battle. his game is a solid to good role playing key position forward that straightens the side up and provides a target. ( still think he can be a 30goal forward). the rest of his attributes are more valuable i reckon -
With all due respect, how did everyone not see the problems with FA coming when it was first brought up years ago? Im sorry but this was so obvious. It will only benefit the stronger clubs and will only get worse as the system is worked over more effectively by the big clubs. To my absolute bewilderment there seems to be a few people who are genuinely suprised as the penny is finely dropping that FA is not a good thing for the weaker clubs. No S%*t.

trade Jamar for what?! Strauchnie?
-
off course MFC approached Adams . He just isnt keen on the Dees. you could hear it in his managers voice. "Are Melbourne one of the teams Taylor is considering? " " Ahhh..... no." Who could blame the kid with the other options hes tabling. I look forward to the day when these types are choosing Melbourne. MFC is still the fat girl at the dance. I look forward to when she has lost the weight and the braces.

2013 Player Review - # 1 Jesse Hogan
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
another 'schwabist' act giving him the number 1 guernsey. give him a number in the 40s and let him earn his stripes like every other player. so sick of this player worship this club has. What the *&^% is he doing on the membership flyer?! let the kid play one game of footy first. even if he is carey and brown combined it wont win us a flag. its all about the team, not hero worshipping single players like some pubesant female Beatles fan. Grow up MFC -
Ignition, my mistake for not clarifying who my posts were directed at.. My last 2 posts were directed at sweet puff's appraisal of selwood being a bigger 'get' than swallow or adams. yes selwood would be a handy addition but if we are lumping him in with adams, martin swallow then we are referring to trading pick 2 for selwood. In that respect swallow and adams have much more 'bang for our buck' than selwood as their ceiling i believe is much higher than selwoods.

Football Buffoons on Melbourne Radio
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to Mongrel Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Barrett has overtaken denham as least respected journo for me. of course his anti melbourne stance taints my opinion but he really has no idea about footy in general and can only feed off the back room politics, ala CW, as anything to do with the actual game is beyond him . it is clear he has never been around footy clubs at any level. just an imposter on every level. how he can sit alongside these superb footballers in their day, spud, lyon , and feel he can meanigfully contribute to the conversation is mind boggling. he really should know his place. go get the coffees Barrett. -
of course Selwood is currently superior. hes been playing for 5 years . Adams and swallow are still kids. Does that mean they dont have more talent? GCS have the most skilful list in the competition, player for player. still doesnt win them games ... because they are young. but their future is very bright. likewise the 3 players i mentioned. Brent moloney can have more impact on a game than adams. does that mean youd rather take moloney in a trade than adams?! clueless
-
selwood has been playing for several seasons and in my opinion has reached his potential. a bit of a brent moloney type. the 3 i mentioned have far more upseide and show more class in what they do. Just too young to do it consistently yet. I watch a lot of football. You are "prendergast" in your talent spotting abilities.
-
nice one Demoneyes. you seemed pretty spot on with Roos and not one to jsut bulltish for the sake of it. Appreciated by us other D'landers
