  1. I reckon in years to come people will look back with humour at the "fads" of heading O/S for altitude training, off to darwin, AOD7604 etc etc.
  2. Neelds mistake was not in letting go moloney, gysberts , morton, Bennell. For various reasons including attitude and lack of ability these players had to be removed. Neelds mistake was NOT in pursuing experienced "cheap" players to replace the above mentioned. His mistake was in over rating the ability of player he would be able to attract to the club. Replace Byrnes and Pedo with Cross and Chapman. the theory was spot on, but in reality there was no way he was going to attract decent free agents. Im sure others were approached, in fact i bet every player was approached by Todd viney last trade period but the fact is the MFC is the 'fat ugly chick at the school dance'. Her mum will keep telling her how special she is but it doesnt mean shes going to get some. Hopefully this year we can attract some talent and it does seem that the club is a bit more attractive this time around. I disapproved of Neeld as much as anyone but Ill give credit where credit is due. he got rid of the dead wood but ended up replacing it with players with less ability than im sure he was hoping for.
  3. dont be seduced by the surname. should not be mentioned in the same breath as swallow, adams, martin when discussing trade options.
  4. Can not make a call on this topic this side of trade week. we could move up the ladder by 2 or 3 spots or not improve at all depending on trade week. some good trades could see us up to 14th spot i reckon if a couple of good mids can be brought over
  5. Only you and my mother have ever told me that, Django. Touched. On a serious note, rereading my last post sounded like i had a source. I dont - it is only my opinion on where i think things stand at this stage.
  6. it was part of the deal presented to roos to get him over the line. We are getting an extra pick but it will not be pick one. Sounding like it will be end of 1st round at this stage
  7. a dull boring site where the only discussion is oneupmanship between posters who can only be described as sad nerds. who cares , back to the footy
  8. Very short memory George. Evans played some pretty good footy this season before he was injured. looked to be a real find in an otherwise bleak season. has a future.
  9. Does anyone feel Jetta could be moulded in to that defensive fwd type player. his defensive effort is very good. doesnt get much footy but does he have potential?
  10. did you guys see his B&F speech. i got the feeling he was thanking the club and saying his farewells. very similar to Rivers's speech last year.
  11. Choko, cutting away all the soin, the real reason behind the shorter contract is Roos's ability to hold the club to accountability and ensure the improvements and direction he has been promised are maintained throughout. If, in two years the club is 'wandering off course' or characters like stockdale are meddling, Roos has ensured he will be able to pull up stumps and leave. Think if it as Roosy's insurance policy. However, should the club be tracking along the path he has been assured it will be then I am very confident of the information ive been given that he will be most definitely be extending that contract. It is actually in our best interests as supporters, this shorter contract. The club will be forced to tow the line or their golden boy will walk out the door. No more Scwab like egos coming in and &*^%ing around if they want Roos to renew. Im very comfortable with how things sit.
  12. where did this come from Stuie. For me, the best emblem ive seen.
  13. terrible thread. move on guys. he aint that good.
  14. Yep i second that too. Great stuff guys and very much appreciated.
  15. now that the cat is out of the bag that roos is coming its ironic that its released today that melbourne have requested a PP. this is all carefully staged to show the AFL is following due process. This PP wouldve been negotiated weeks ago as part of proviso put forward to the AFL by Roos while they were courting him. The Commission "will sit done and decde whether to give the PP", they will hum and hah for a few days then,Presto, MFC gets a PP. some other clubs will jump up and down but everyone in the know will be fully aware that this is all just part of the show and was decided weeks ago. Thats my take on it anyway
  16. haha, sorry mate, think that was my fault there.
  17. No its not. A top midfield can function without an all-out star cast. a group of good hard working and hard running DECENT mids can do the job. A forward line needs guns. And the fact of the matter is there are alot more mids in any given draft (just look at any drafts first round) compared to good KPFs. As an extension there are then more mids on the trade table than gun forwards. With a A grade spine it should be easier to attract good midfielders through trade / free agency as well. Secondly, this draft doesnt appear to have any mids that appear to be out and out clear number 1 picks. if best available is a mid then sure , but i dont think it is and a rare opportunity to set up a dominant fwd 50 for the next decade is a golden opportunity.
  18. i dont know whether boyd is as good as they say as i havent watched any footage of him My point is that IF he is as good as the media beat up says he is then i think the club should take him. its all a moot point till we find out if a PP is coming our way though hey
  19. always take best available. cherry picking the draft got us cook and gysberts.
  20. yes we have clark whos 27 next year, dawes who is solid but not a star, hogan who looks the goods and fitzy . taking boyd is about setting up our forward line long term . long after clark and dawes have moved on.
  21. yes i believe it is. im not saying GUN midfielders but decent mids are more plentiful than the type of KPF that Boyd is supposed to be.
  22. hes talented but wasted as a 'flanker' in melbournes side. he doesnt really have a position in the side that i can see that is worth the money to keep him. he has currency based purely on his 'potential'. id like to see him put up for trade. at least see if we could get a first or 2nd rd pick for him. id much rather a dunstan or a sheed type than pay watts big money to float around on the wing. hes not physical, goes missing alot, is a poor contested mark and justt doesnt have a strong work ethic. If theres a club out there thinking they can turn him in to something then now is the time to trade and find another decent midfielder. we cant just play him on a flank for his career on big money.
  23. yes that is true and will be probaly next year as well. but it is much easier to accumulate some decent mids and slowly strenghten the middle of the ground than to set up a dominating forward line. i cant see any club giving us a mid thats worth a pick one and a mid at pick one in the draft wont chnge the midfield fortunes next season anyway. so lets take best available and accumulate some mids with our later picks.
