after the wash up of yesterdays game and assuming Chip is going, which I really feel he is now, what player types should the club chase this off season? Presume 2 top 8 draft picks, including the compo for Chip. Use one for the draft and one to swap for another mid or should we go for a KPF to replace Mitch? Can Pedo fill the 3rd tall fwd possy long term? Can Dunn hold down CHB or do we look to draft a KPD? Id like the club to have a crack at a GWS mid and go for a tall in the draft, personally, however if we can get Rosa in FA then id say go for an established tall.

GOODBYE MITCH CLARK
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to The Song Formerly Known As's topic in Melbourne Demons
With the current system in place how could Mitch determine which club picked him up? What would stop WC taking him? -
Yep, i agree with all that Jumbo.

This article really highlights how much pressure some of these guys are under. Its only the top percentile of the league that really live that fantasy life the media portrays. He nearly lost his career and his house. I cant imagine that sort of pressure when youre out of form and in your last year of contract. Im happy for Bennell.

2years ago Blease looked like he would be a good player to have in the side, now Roos ethos really highlights what a one dimensional player he is. Roos presence has educated us supporters as well as the player. We all demand so much more from players now

Yes I agree WYL, was just commenting on what I feel is his most glaring weakness and what could be done to improve it

I have also rolled my eyes in the past as watts threads appeared so i guess i shouldnt be suprised by the response. lol

Does Pedo get a 2nd 'd' in his nickname now he's earning so much respect?

What do we do with Grimes?
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to blue and red in the head's topic in Melbourne Demons
Im doing a bit of window shopping, watching the GWS game this afternoon. Im all for the coaching staff to work with Grimes to improve his weaknesses but if we want to go the next step that HB line needs to have some talent. Treloar with his kicking could be handy -

Opportunities missed or momentum building?
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to Fitz Fitzpatrick's topic in Melbourne Demons
Looking back at 2007-2012,13, the club really was amateurish in so many ways compared to now. the ladder doesnt show it yet but in so many other aspects, MFC does now seem to be on track. Perhaps more than ever in recent history. And i am including the Northey/Balme and Daniher years. Those periods of success were great but they were still training out of Junction oval with old footys and cold showers and working out of an old house in Jolimont Street. The club was miles behind the league in off field admin in those days. -

The boys would be up and about if Hogan got on the park for the last couple wouldnt they. -
Watts has improved this year however the bar has been set pretty low and I suspect a few supporters are applauding average performances. I feel watts will get better over time however Im pretty certain hes never going to be more than a handy player with the odd big game. By the way, that will be good enough in a balanced team. One aspect of his game which I am constantly bemoaning is his inability to win a one on one contested situation with almost any other sized player. Put the footy on the ground between Watts and an opponent and it will be invariably won by the opposition. This is such a liability as he is not able to lock the ball in after he has lost the contest. He fails to win the footy and then is outbodied after the contest and more often than not the oppo clears the area. Additionally, sit the ball in the air in a one on one contest and Watts will struggle against any opponent whether they are 5'10" or 6' 5". He doesnt have enough c*#t in him unfortuately. In open spaces he can be lethal , which is a great benefit, however in a contest he really can be a liability. I would love to see someone like Wayne Carey or Stewart Lowe ( I mention these two only because I know theyve done some one on one coaching in the past), be brough to the club to teach Jack to use that big frame he has to his advantage.

That sounds like a pretty ordinary book, Good times. -

Have you heard something re Hogan , Sassy? What Im impressed with this year is that older group that werent carrying their weight the last few years have really lifted . This has really lightened the load on the kids who will now be left to develop at their own pace. Two years ago we wouldve all been pinning our season's fortunes on Salem. This year he is a sideshow (though impressive), to the overall team's performance. the team has some real balance now -
I like this one but I prefer the one you did last year like this but it showed the Demons face on it

Whats everyone's opinion on the effects these close losses and missed opportunities have on the phsyche of the team? Will they continue to make the boys hungry or does wear on them after a while? I feel it will drive the team to go that next step but what does everyone else think? The teams response on QB is going to be fascinating.

true. the teams improvement is accentuating Grime's weaknesses. -
C & D Grade Players who becomes Consistent!
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bollocks. the revisionism on this site is unbekievable. Jetta was decent until he got suspended last year. he didnt break back in to the side until the end of the year when he played a very good small defender role against the bulldogs at Etihad. feel free to comment on players but do it accurately -
Too true, however you do what you got to do if you are being attacked - doesnt matter what theyve got between the thighs. My mates an ambo and he always says by far the worst physical abuse they cop is from drunk women. They dont get a free hit just because theyre female. I am so sick of hearing about physical violence against innocents, regardless of who the perpetrators are

Master theres no way Grimes can play in the middle. everythhing hes criticised for makes him a liability in the middle. Hes just not a competitive on baller. We need to give him time to work through his issues but by next year hes going to have blokes snapping at his heels if he cant improve -
Demonland Player of the Year - Round 11
Fitz Fitzpatrick replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dunn was very good for us 12mths ago. A lot of posters seem to forget from mid 2012 Dunn has been one of our most reliable. Before that, a liability, but lets not change history. Pedo, well, ill agree with you on that one. -
you havent spent much time in the red centre. There are women there bigger than the fellas and can be very vicious on the grog. When a 80kg PERSON comes at you with a broken bottle you do what you got to do. No room for romantic notions in that situation.
