Seems like Freemantle is getting a taste of their own medicine after spliiting their picks we were after for Jesse last year. The vindictive side of me is pretty happy about this, although the dockers can just keep hill if they aren't happy with those picks from the saints.
-
Another risk for GWS is us splitting our pick, I'm sure there are a number of clubs that would bid on Green if they had the chance.
-
Maybe they're all just drunk and its the end of the night?
-
True, could give us some bargaining power on and leading into draft night pending other clubs intentions. Removes the element of getting a player from a deal though.
-
Gunston?
-
Exactly. I can't see a 'split' scenario that would be likely as it currently stands. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds though.
-
Seems the most enticing for us if that eventuated. We would have to add to that deal though, maybe pick 22 if we can use our future second for Langdon. Bombers would be asking for our pick 3 and future first instead I'd imagine, but even then I'm not convinced the would prefer that to 5 and 9.
-
Wasn't their 3rd pick earmarked for Patton? Maybe they'll offer them or us a future 3rd, doesn't seem that enticing with next years draft being highly compromised with academy picks. Their next pick in this years draft after 47 is 84 pending other trades. If we could do something like Frost and 58 for pick 30 we would be doing well. Values frost at pick 39 on the draft points index.

It's a nice thought, but history says we will cave and give them this years second round pick.

That's funny. Because I believe if we pick up any of those players they are clearly unwanted duds and will only clog our list. Watch them become superstars if they go to any other club though.

Your continual digs at Spargo are getting wearisome Spirit. We get it, you don't rate him. He's a 19yr old second year player that has signed an extension for the 2020 season. So get used to the fact he'll be on our list next year and please move on.

I'm curious to see what we want/will get out of GWS if we do end up going down the split path with them. 12 and 14 alone isn't going to cut it for pick 3 and it's worth noting that if they and the bombers progress through those picks could end up as 14 & 15 or worse. I would look at some of these players. Daniels Himmelberg Caldwell Hately Bonar My suggestion would be; Out: 3 In: 12, 14, Caldwell Ideally i'd prefer to go after Himmelberg or Hately but doubt GWS would part with these players and multiple first rounders. I'd then look at trading 12 and 14 to Sydney with pick 24 coming back to us (values Papley at Pick 7). Maybe overs but Papley is exactly the player our team needs. Due to his contract situation it was reported that it would take two first rounders to satisfy them and our position with GWS could allow us to trump Carlton. Overall Out: 3 In: Papley, Caldwell, Pick 24 Leaves us with no first round draft picks but if we truly don't rate this draft then that's not important and we don't have to use one until next year anyway. Or we can get creative and look at either trading a player or future picks for a 2019 first rounder.

This. Has been happening all year. Shows complete weakness and lack of interest or care from our players.
-
Soft submissive club with a loser mentality and no fight or care for their team mates.
-
Jack Martin not getting a game two weeks in a row despite clearly a best 22 player and coming off a 30 odd disposal, 2 goal game in the seconds. Has to be gone at seasons end. Haven't heard any speculation linking him to us though which is disappointing.
-
This team is broken. Loser mentality after half time. Something is up with Brayshaw. Absolute shadow of his former self.

With Tom McDonald injured for the year, it has become even more apparent that we are light on for genuine KPF's with only Weideman holding the fort and still developing. Tim Smith is sadly injury prone and already 28, with his ideal position as a 3rd tall. Preuss may provide another target while ruck relieving but he is not a long term solution to our forward line. We have no other genuine AFL quality KPF's on our list. Time for some stupid draft hypothesis that belong in fantasy land. We should go hard for Jeremy Cameron. He is 26 and out of contract at the end of next year as a RFA. I believe I read somewhere here that Geelong have been in his ear and believe he's gettable. We should attempt to trump them this year with an offer of our 2019 1st as well as our 2020 1st rounder. In return we get Cameron and Essendon's first rounder they hold from their Shiel trade. Maybe a balance of swaps of second and third rounders to even it up. In: Jeremy Cameron, Pick 9 (as the ladder stands) Out: Pick 3 (as it stands), Future 1st. Maybe we swap a future second for their third or something along those lines. This gives them maximum compensation while giving us a first rounder that I believe we are required to use this year (unclear on the exact rules of that). It also enables them to take a player before a bid on Tom Green comes in which might be somewhat influential. Then we go hard for Coniglio as a free agent this year. Trade our current 2nd rounder for Langdon (yes, freo will want more) and pick up best available with pick 9. Do I need to put down the pipe?

As people have already pointed out, he's found multiple best 22 players from late in draft. Regardless, I don't think you can safely say that every person recruited was solely a Taylor decision which it seems that you're implying. I would imagine he would bring extensive research and create profiles on multiple targets that is then presented to the football department. Further meetings would then take place with group discussions surrounding the pros and cons of each player. It is perfectly reasonable to suggest that Taylor would have a different order of merit compared to Goodwin or others in the department who would consider things like list balance and may prefer certain personality types or skill sets.

Well, 2019 is proper boned. Can't believe that the draft will become more relevant than September this year. At least we'll actually have a 1st rounder to use. Draft: Matthew Rowell Noah Anderson Other top 5-10 suggestions..? Trade/FA: The dream but won't happen.... Coniglio Would also love Fiorini from sun's or Florant from swans but probably not worth speculating over. Other slightly less unrealistic options that are either out of contract or not getting a good run at it... Zac Jones Ed Langdon Lewis Taylor Matthew ling Nakia Cockatoo Shai Bolton Darcy Parish Jayden Laverde Jack Martin Brayden Sier Any half decent small forwards available? P.s. I'm not advocating that all these players would be a good fit at mfc. Was looking forward to this season for 5 months, ugh...

Great work, thanks for the time and energy you put in. If I may add a small adjustment, in 2015 pick 29 which we traded to the Suns was used by them to pick up Joshua Schoenfeld at pick 34. This was pushed back 5 spots due to academy picks for Mills, Hopper, Kennedy, Hipwood and Himmelberg.

Useless fact. Jesse Hogan leaves MFC as it's 42nd highest goal kicker.

AFL trade wrap today says talks are progressing between Freemantle and GWS for Lobb and suggested the following swaps could be on the cards. GWS give Lobb and Pick 14 Freo give Pick 11 and Pick 23 If that happens then I can see a trade happening for Hogan quickly with Melbourne receiving 5 and 14. We will possibly have to even out with some later pick swaps for Freo to be happy. Guess it's all dependent on Freo trading Neale and learning to not be a d!ck. So probably won't happen actually.
