  1. We actually would have only received pick 31 (Jackson Merrett) and pick 32 (Joel Hamling) as per the AFL's activation rules (see article). http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/default.aspx?newsid=123370 It was definitely the logical thing to hold onto the picks. If next year is as strong as it sounds then a few clubs will be looking to utilise their compensation picks as well. Perhaps we will see only one of ours used next year and bank the other to use from 2013 - 2015.
  2. That was my initial thought but i'm the journo's would be having an absolute field day with that slip if true. Perhaps he's intention was to say that his dad officially signed with GWS after he did, effectively dodging the question all together. Maybe a career in politics awaits him? Lol
  3. Thought has crossed my mind... along with displaying it at blacktowns facilities above the entrance. But that would require effort and for me to actually enter west sydney of which I have no desire. It has Barassi's signiture on the number 1 though so i'm leaning towards chooks idea of chemically removing the ink from the number 3.
  4. "It was after I was signed to the Giants that he was offered a deal. As you know the rest is history," Scully said. Reading this quote and taking it on face value, it appears that he is admitting he signed on last year. Perhaps his meaning was lost in translation from interview to print. Whatever the case i'm over this whole saga. Now I need to work out what to do with the signed jumper I have in my room.
  5. My understanding is that you can nominate to use your compensation pick in the year you acquire them but have to nominate by a certain date. Additionally, if a club chooses to use a compensatory pick in the same year, they will become an "end-of-round" pick. So if we decided to use say the mid-round pick, instead of getting pick 10 we would receive pick 19. Of course the extra selections allocated to GWS skews these numbers but you get the idea. Otherwise if the selections are "stocked" for use in subsequent years then they must be nominated before the start of the season (unsure on specific date) in which a club wishes to use them.
  6. Each team is required to make 3 deletions to the senior team list each year. However, I believe there is only a minimum requirement of 1 selection in the national draft as rookie upgrades can be included as a "selection." For example, if we had decided to upgrade Nicholson to the senior list (which I was a little suprised we didn't) then we would only have to use picks 36 and 52 as live picks with 54 allocated to upgrading Nicholson. Conversely, we could use picks 36 and 52, then pass on 54 to utilise a PSD selection although I fail to see any advantage in this.... unless we have come to an arangement with a pre-listed afl player that hasn't nominated for the national draft. I agree that Couch would most likely be a rookie selection if it all.
  7. Apoligies for the late notice but uni commitments have tied me up on sunday unfortunately. Will definately put my hand up next time round if the opportunity presents itself.
  8. Not 100% sure to be honest, i'm just going of this article when Trengove, Tapscott and Gawn also re-signed/extended their contracts http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/120703/default.aspx

    Pick 12

Grigg was a highly rated mid and seems to have fallen off peoples radar recently... Can anyone shed any light into his strengths and weakness and if he's worth having a look at?
  10. Thats what I thought we were going to do but we have already signed up Nicholson and Evans as rookies for next year. Maybe they're planning on upgrading juice?
  11. Well there you go... Would have been nice to pick up one of those picks but can't say i'm disappointed. We still have a good hand for future drafts or to possibly deal for an experienced player.
  12. I Agree, Kennedy would have to be something pretty special to pass up a reportedly star midfield prospect Is it a 2:00pm deadline? I was under the impression it was at 5. Strange the deal hasn't been done since it seemed to have been done and dusted last night.
  13. This article suggests that adelaide are still deciding between Kennedy and Crouch. If they do select Kennedy, it will be interesting to see where Crouch ends up going in next years draft. Of course adelaide still need to get the deal done 1st, just a little over 3hrs left now. Surely they have it wrapped up? http://www.afl.com.a...21/default.aspx
  14. I've always thought that he plays his best when he gets moved into the midfield, knows how to find the pill
  15. Maric for pick 40 (if we're lucky enough, perhaps maric + 54 as suggested in another thread) Pick 40 for Walsh? Saints were harping on about walsh being the quality of a 1st round selection when the got him. http://www.theroar.com.au/2009/10/20/saints-sign-gaelic-football-star/ Read more about him here talking about his move to Australia. He also suggests that he may want to go back home at some stage... http://www.irishecho.com.au/2010/06/02/saint-thomas-tommy-walsh-chats-about-his-new-afl-career-down-under/3632
  16. Mini draft picks can be on-traded... unlikely but they're still in play. Not for long though and I would reckon the asking price would be even higher at both adelaide and gold coast.
  17. I'm not that disappointed, particularly if consider the following players: Tom Hill (passed over in 1st available draft, WB - pick 89 in his 2nd), Tom Swift (WC - pick 20), Matt de Boer (Freo - rookie draft pick 19) All these players were highly rated underage players expected to go early 1st round. Hell I even remember reading about Jack Fitzpatrick being a potential top 5 pick at one stage. I'm sure there are countless more examples. I'm more than content in saving our compensation picks for future drafts or to use for an experienced player.
  18. I'm glad we haven't yet, there is no need to. No sense in delisting someone who might have some currency on the trade market, no matter how small. Better to negiotiate an upgrade of a late draft pick than delist a player and let a club pick him up for nothing (Buckley). We should have a firm idea of how many draft picks we want to use this draft so it's best to wait and see if we get any offers and move on a contracted player or two before making those decisions. I'm not 100% certain but I believe Warnock, Bate (Maric?) are contracted for next year. If one or two of them moves on I reckon it may provide a reprieve for Joel Macdonald.
  19. This article suggest that Green, Frawley and Trengove may play as well although I haven't heard any confirmation of team selections as of yet. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/gold-coast-youngsters-picked-for-international-rules-team-to-play-ireland/story-e6frf9jf-1226158431737
  20. Morton to finish top 5 in the B & F
  21. If you were going to compare tapscott to anyone from west coast I would think Hurn would be a more suitable comparison. Tapscott just hasn't got his defensive capabilities up to scratch yet. I worry that he has/will continue to be found out by the more mobile medium forwards. Would much rather grimes, bennel and strauss of the half-back line. Big tapscott fan though, I hope he works on his engine and gets a run in the middle and half foward line.
  22. Before anyone gets too excited its a glitch with the bigpond site that all clubs share... simply plug in the player ID number from their club site into a melbourne players profile and there you have it.
  23.
