  1. Why are people so stupid? Jurrah has no currency. For those that don't get the situation. Would you pay for something that you can get for free anyway? That is the Jurrah situation. He's free for Port Adelaide.
  2. Can't really remember readying any draft bio that doesn't leave a carrot dangling out there for anyone that can see it. I prefer seeing what they can do on the field rather than what someone can write about someone.
  3. Good luck to Liam, and his future endeavours. I believe Neeld has been the best thing for this club. Doesn't matter who you are, what position you held, how good you are, what potential you have. If you're not gonna have the "elite" attitude, and the "elite" effort, you're not going to be at the MFC.
  4. Some how 4 wins to 13/14 to make the 8 seems a bit much. But I do love the optimism.
  5. Disagree. By "releasing the shackles" is a sign that they're not "elite". Being ruthless in what they are trying to achieve is the only way. It would be more detrimental that good in my opinion.
  6. *SMACKS FOREHEAD*
  7. Well quite simply, in response to your topic: MFC will gain 4 points. Fremantle will not.
  8. Game plans have changed yes. But they have had the personnel to do it. I struggle to find anyone on Melbourne's list that can match Adelaide's: Walker, Tippett, Dangerfield, Thompson, Jacobs. There are 5 out and out game winners for them in any situation. Melbourne simply doesn't have that. Have to look at experience as well. We rank 3rd in inexperienced players (games played).
  9. This is simply a matter of re-training our players. Previously, our players played unaccountable football. We didn't work for each other and we didn't have the skills, mindset or structures to vie for a premiership. Neeld has started this with his "elite" program. This was like teaching a baby how to crawl. This year was about teaching those things to our team. For many of the players it would have exposed them to a work ethic they would have never even experienced before. This year was about sorting our list and seeing who could withstand the pressures required to build a premiership winning culture and club. Our club is much better placed for the future after this year. It was painful. But it will be worth it. We weren't far off winning many more games this year had a couple of things been executed a little better and with a bit more poise. Expect that to come in next year. Prediction is 8 wins next year.
  10. There is a difference in getting a player cheap with the idea they'll fill a roll, compared to getting a player cheap based on statistical analysis of what you believe the team as a whole needs to achieve to win premiership. Also a difference in getting a player cheap with the "hope" they'll be good. As I'm not sure about Sydney's analysis of stats, I can't comment. But the key to why their recruits have been so good is due to the role they have been asked to play and culture they have develop. Roos, and now Longmire have made it simple that each player has a role to perform on game day. And they educate each player on the various roles. And hence, if a person is injured, suspended, any player can step into that role. This is something Neeld and MFC have started doing. It simplifies the game to our players, and makes them aware of their task each game. However, if they got Mattiner et al, because they analysed how many spoils, or rebound 50s he averaged a game and they knew the total number of rebound 50s they were aiming to get from their back 6 would equal a certain amount, then I would say that has aspects of MB analysis.
  11. Definitely happens at other clubs. I know a coterie member at Carlton who "donated" $10k to the club so his 5 year old son could get his life size cardboard cut out of Chris Judd signed, and a changeroom pass with a photo with Judd. $10K!
  12. Whats your parameter? Tackles? Kicks? Smothers? Goals? Handballs? Contested Possessions? Contested Marks? Goals outside 50? Hit outs to advantage? What about if the game is played at a different stadium? In different weather conditions? Specific umpires umpiring a game? AFL is grey is soooo many aspects. Baseball as an example is very black and white in comparison. Hit the ball into space, run a certain distance. Do this more times than the opposition.
  13. Ok...I don't believe its possible, so lets break it down. If you believe football can be broken down this way.... Lets say we look at tackles. You analyse all the premiership teams over the last 10 years. You find out how many tackles their midfielders got. You average them, then you go and make sure you find your midfield for any match combine tackle average matches that of the premiership sides... Or if you go by average goals kicked a game. You say, on average to win a game of afl, you need to kick 15 goals per game on average. You go and find 22 players who's goals per game average that of 15. The issue you have is AFL has too many factors, dimensions. You run in all directions, you jump in all directions. Its more or less immeasurable. With baseball, they analysed each players batting averages. But not only that. They measured it against left handed pitchers, right handed pitchers. When it was a fast ball, curve ball, slider. When it was inside plate, outside plate. And they were able to work out specific players strengths and weaknesses. And they coached their players to that.
  14. A good way to look at it. But you have to look at the membership package (card, scarf etc) that is taken out of that and the gate receipts of the number of games the member/s attend. This is pretty much pure cash. The more realistic number might be 4000 memberships at $250 each. To cover costs.
  15. WOO HOO!
  16. So I've seen on a few posts, the MFC are going down the "money ball" tactic. This kind of worries me. The reason being is the money ball tactic was used for a club that had far less resources and money to throw at players, and therefore could not compete. If, in fact, we're going down this pathway when we're on an even playing field, it doesn't sit well. The fact that we've been on an even playing field basically just shows how poor one or more of the following has been: Recruitment Development Culture/Standards I'd be keen to hear more from those that have heard it from somewhere that we're heading down the money ball tactic.
  17. Jack Watts, Nathan Jones, Jeremy Howe Recruitment of Mitch Clark Emergence of Tom Mac, Blease, Strauss The no crap attitude of Mark Neeld Grimes having a great year and being injury free The progression of Trenners Tappy getting his body right and playing fairly well recently. The extra flexibility we now have with Rivers, Garland, Grimes, Sellar, Martin, Howe, Watts, Dunn, Bate all playing different positions The future optimism. Viney and other recruits to come in next year. Another preseason for: Blease, Strauss, Cook, Tynan, Taggart, Watts, Viney, Trengove, Grimes Us moving up the ladder Injury free starts to the year for Sylvia, Watts, Grimes, Strauss, Tappy, Gysberts, Jetta, Gawn and the rest of the team.
  18. Extra depth. He's hard at it. Not a big fan personally, but can kick it a fair way, has a few strings to his bow and should injuries appear, can pinch hit in a lot of different areas.
  19. With injuries, its not as simple as "fitness". Genetics, body shape/type plays a massive role. Not to mention type of football player they are. Some players based on a combination of those will simply always find a way to get injured. Jones, however is built. His frame and I'll assume his genetic make up is just great for AFL football. Don't get me wrong, his fitness level and preparation will be first class too which definitely helps. But I struggle to believe that Jack Grimes doesn't prepare well or get his fitness levels to where they need to be.
  20. who knows, pick 4 might be used in a trade for say...travis boak...just sayin.
  21. All I can say: the thought of Travis Cloke on a hard lead outside 50. Mark. Swing around on his left foot with a quick, long, penetrating kick into a one on one contest to Mitch Clark makes me salivate. Get all his good attributes and don't need him shooting for goal. Hope it happens....
  22. My analysis of historical contract negotiations played out in the media is its merely a discussion of whether its a 2 year deal vs a 3 year deal. Reckon MFC would like the 3 year deal while his currency is low/starting to build and get an extra year for "cheaper". While a lot of "up and coming" players like a 2 year deal. This gives them the ability for their stocks to soar and have a new contract be drawn up at the end of those 2 years when they have "proved" themselves.
  23. Gut feel its not only moloney. With the ins this week, and with Morton not making the cut, I'd suspect he is gone too. There's gonna be a fair few more to come too.
  24. pretty sure draftees have to sign a 2 year contract as standard.
  25. don't entirely agree, but don't entirely disagree either.
