  1. A bit of perspective: 1. Yes it was wet...hard to make much fo the games as the likelihood anyone plays in conditions like that is probably 4-5 times throughout their AFL career. 2. Tynan, Magner, Couch, Sellar, Bate could push for selection. 3. Due to our game plan and the silly out of bounds rule, meant a lot of out plays turned into turnovers as we were hugging the boundary line. 4. Its so good to see that we got through unscathed injury wise. 5. The teams that played either game were no where near 100% full strength. Therefore to read how good/bad we are is quite silly as in most team sports: you are only as good as your weakest link. If anything this makes picking the best 22 for round 1 harder for me. After now pencilling in Magner and Bate... I'm really not sure who's getting a gig.
  2. I'm tempted to write down all 18 teams. Actually it would be GWS. Cause you aren't counting any of the rookies as they haven't played a game yet.
  3. Yeah...sample is definitely way too small to even consider a trend. Not to mention there are way too many other variables to consider. You'd need to analyse the players that played in both games. If there were any injuries. The home ground advantage. The coaching strategies. Should i go on? Look up correlation statistics 101 for a better understanding.
  4. 1. Getting another major sponsor is a tough gig. Its a two way street. Melbourne needs to associate themselves with a reputable sponsor, but also try and get as much money as possible. You must also take into account the global financial situation. For many companies to be struggling to pay staff, stay above board, to justify forking out up to 2-3 million is a lot and can't be justified. 2. As for social media. Thats a tough one. Our lack of success since 1964, means new supporters are tough to come by. Most social media followers are Gen Y and Gen Z. Meaning they will more than likely be supporting clubs that have had recent success in the last 15-20 years. Of which Melbourne has not. 3. Memberships have risen, so I think you're wrong with that. You also need to take into account, our debt. Our debt previously meant we were unable to spend on our "marketing" department. As our debt has just been eroded, it will take time for future plans to take affect. Don't be fooled....Jimmy has set the foundations for this club for a long time. It will just take time for it to take fruition. Stay positive and try to look at the bigger picture rather than the immediate one.
  5. Demon Dashers is me.
  6. Bugger, I always forget about the AGM and alas throw my membership out once the season is over (makes my wallet too bulky). Oh well...
  7. oops....what Deeman said. lol
  8. I'd say no. He isn't even on our list. So there may be insurance issues should he get injured. Also, not sure we would want him to play. I'm fairly sure we'd want as many players to get as much match fitness for the upcoming season as opposed to Viney who can't pull on the jumper this season. But thats only my opinion.
  9. I'm in. Total Score: 53,651 Ranked: 5,032
  10. @Webber, 100% agree with your post. And while fast twitch fibres are inherited, I was under the impression that slow twitch fibres could be developed. Thus meaning that the types of Blease and Davey could still keep their fast twitch fibres, but develop their slow twitch ones(endurance). Or are you saying that if they develop their slow twitch muscle types, their fast twitch ones may suffer and they lose their "x-factor"?
  11. I'd like to point out I did in fact find a few posts in this thread offensive. And while I do appreciate that it was all in good fun....a post stating: Isn't really cricket to me. And seeing as though the "code of conduct" clearly states: I just thought I'd point it out.
  12. Interesting that the phantom draft link listed above had no mention of Addam Maric.
  13. They should look to take the "money ball" statistics approach and put together a team that averages a certain amount of points for and certain amount of points against. Maybe not for next year, but when we lose players to salary cap issues, do the statistical analysis to replace a gun with a player/s that will average the same output as per the player that gets ousted.
  14. All I can say is: I am so glad we are having this problem right now. The fact that some people are putting their best 22 down and miss/forget one or some of - Watts, Blease, Green, Davey, Moloney, Bartram, Jurrah, Bate, Bennell, Tapscott, Martin is a good thing. I remember the times when I would put together a best 22 and be cringing that I would have to include certain players. The debate that we are all having displays the depth/potential of our list. Pumped for the season ahead! I'm not going to bother putting my 22 in basically because it causes me too many headaches.
  15. I agree. Yes we have Mitch Clark, but should Clark go down with an injury, we're the same list as per 2011. Sellar adds that extra flexibility to swing players all over the place. We now have the ability to play clark, sellar, jamar, martin all fwd or in the ruck and some of them in the back line.
  16. Melbourne V Adelaide - MCG 1995. We lost. I do remember running around through all the big green rubbish bins with mates, looking for empty coke cups that had the afl pogo things in the bottom of the cup. Fair to say, I didn't smell very nice.
  17. Hope $cully enjoys "being out of the spotlight"
