  1. I don't get it. I've read all these comments that he's being harsh, or bold, and singling out players isn't good. This has been our problem for too long. Letting things just go by as they are. Not holding our players accountable. Being ok with mediocrity. Now we get a guy that's willing to challenge our group of players and challenge them publicly. Football is as much about skills as it is a mental game. If our players can't take some criticism well, how the hell are they going to handle it when they are in the heat of the battle with 100K fans screaming at them in a GF? The mentality of wrapping players in cotton wool has to stop. Watts' can handle it. He's a natural sportman/athlete that has a much higher potential than most. Neeld has identified this and is going about his business to give him every chance to live up to that potential. The higher the "elite" standards we set for our players, the better it is for them and the club.
  2. *note to self. Before reading an article about Neeld and his direct approach, bring a box of tissues. Loving this guy so much right now. Admittedly, it will come down to performances, but to hear "They have to play the game in all three areas (when the Demons have it, when they don't and at stoppages) . . . otherwise, they won't play." - about Jurrah. Makes me so happy.
  3. Mate of mine stated: Luke Ball's injury was not due to Misson. More that it was Ross Lyon refusing to allow him the adequate time to recover. Ross Lyon apparently defied medical staff on many occasions. Credibility of source: His father plays golf regularly with some of the board members... So....probably not good.
  4. GWS should have hired him as their fitness coach, or nutritionist.
  5. I'd suspect its russian and stef rotating ruck and fwd. With clark and either of russian/clark always down there, leaves jurrah, howe, sylvia to do their thing. Watts and Bate will be lead ups at CHF, mark, quick swing around and kick into forward line quickly. With marking ability of jurrah, howe, sylvia, russian, clark, stef....going to hard to match up on. That would be my game plan.
  6. ooo and i forgot tapscott...crap. ummm....uhhh....
  7. strauss...if fit. Id put JB in there somewhere...not sure where. Don't think I've had this problem for a while. In other years I'd be banging my head against a brick wall saying..."do I really need to put this guy into our best 22".
  8. So really the key has to be pick our top 10 most important players over the next few years and ensure they are our top 10 payed in each of the years when their contract expires... What this doesn't say is, how do they determine the highest paid? Is it based on their most recent contract in total? Or does it just mean for the most recent season? If it is the latter, it could see back ended contracts being more beneficial...
  9. i will always remember for him running into an open goal against st kilda and not knowing what to do, and thus tried a snap from 5 metres out and missing it. classic juice.
  10. There is always positive side. Pick 12 isn't a bad one to keep if used correctly. A few past pick 12s. Jonesy, Chip, Cyril. If we're able to pick up another player that is similar to any of those, its not bad... O'meara might be a gun. But as is any draft...you never know.
  11. happy to be wrong.
  12. lol. it was only a bit of a joke. optimistic side is: he's young, and he was going for his first goal in afl. It was in tassie, so there was probably a massive wind pushing it left to right. I'm sure he'll be fine.
  13. well here's what to look forward to if we pick up lisle... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1oIV6pzA14
  14. recruiting shannon byrnes reminds me of recruiting a gary moorcroft. Waste of time, space and money. No thank you. I rate the potential in about 25 player on our list before Tyson Goldsack too. So I say no.
  15. Andy, let me know if you ever want some help with the css etc. Happy to help.
  16. I'm more thinking grimes has a new best friend.
  17. The response when I broke the news to my mate who is a massive saints supporter and part of the coeterie: No way really? He is the reason we have hardly had any soft tissue injuries for the past 4 seasons, and therefore have been able to keep the same players out on the track apart from the collision injuries like Lenny. If that's true that @#$$ing sucks.
  18. Fairly sure one C.Judd was a Melbourne supporter. Who they support is irrelevant. They are professionals and who they support as a kid becomes irrelevant.
  19. quick interview with him at the airport today on TAC cup future stars. Looked gone IMO. Played the "going up to have a look and see what happens from there", but looks gone.
  20. Alas, but didn't one Brock Mclean be last player standing in our first Debt Demolition and donate $10K to the club? Moloney ain't going anywhere...but rather circumstance can always change...
  21. He ain't going anywhere.
  22. This may be true, but, TS is 19/20? He's lived and breathed footy since a tot. I don't know much about his upbringing, but the chances he is business minded and has been educated that way is probably slim. For him to be thinking like that is similar to a 2nd year graduate contemplating planning to be CEO.
  23. Ofcourse not. The ridiculous pay offers are due to that. Doesn't mean they are to blame. I'm a believer that making the game a bigger national sport is better for the game and the long term future. At the moment yes we are potentially going to lose out. But to place "blame" on the AFL isn't quite right. You have to place "blame" on GWS for poaching so hard. You have to place "blame" on our FD for potentially not signing up TS earlier (they may have tried). You have to place "blame" on Tom(if he signs) for having different values to us "idealists". You have to place "blame" on us supporters for not turning up in droves and giving our club enough money to have the best facilities and the best FD. The list goes on. IMO to solely blame the AFL would be inaccurate and an easy scapegoat for too many.
  24. @Sylvia Saint....got any video "highlights" you'd want to post? ;)
