Please oh please let this match up be true. Jurrah will kick 10 on him. Oh lord. I can't see us losing this one but I suppose I won't be shocked if we did. However given the pressure is on us to show we can play 4 quarters, we won't be seeing us ease up. Bailey will be onto it.

Personally I find some of the responses to that post more alarming than amusing. Learn to read sarcasm people!!!!!!

I get that we are all very frustrated, what with Bruce, McLean, Robbo etc... all gone and therefore nobody to pick on in our hour of need, but can we seriously just move on? Let the footy department develop him the way they see fit and just shut the hell up about him already. If he is a dud, no amount of crapping on will change that. Surely we have better things to talk about than this game of "Watts tennis" where one person says he is developing nicely and another person retaliates by saying he is a joke and should be sent back to Casey. YAWN!

Really not a fan. It's unnecessary and celebrates a complete lack of on field achievements in the past 40 years. I'll want to see the flag when we win it. Then it can be super-glued to the MCG turf and I'll love it unconditionally.

And the amount of clanger kicks by Grimes.

I think we've already seen Bailey try to release him from a tag at half back or half forward. That works sometimes, but he doesn't really suit that sort of role to be honest and he often doesn't find much of the ball at either position and thus we end up missing out on his impact anyway. The answer is to keep developing elite midfielders like Scully, Trengove etc... who will demand a tag themselves thus releasing Davey, or making him less critical to our success.

Absolutely the right decision by the club. We have a clear no d!ckhead policy, and have gone out of our way to avoid bad eggs and clear our list of them. Moloney's behaviour (and thankfully he did not urinate anywhere publicly), was inappropriate for any footballer, especially a vice captain of our club. He let himself down and he embarrassed our club. There are no shades of gray here. It's just so disappointing that a player who has worked so hard on his game and for many years tried to get into the leadership group has let everyone down so badly. I doubt he'll ever repeat this sort of stupidity though, so we move on.
-
Agreed. That will be the most painful punishment for him and it won't cost the team. The rest of the players don't deserve to miss out on a vital player helping them out because he stuffed up. The club can then reassess his leadership position and review his standing mid season. I really like Moloney as a player and he is not a serial offender so we shouldn't hang him for this, but as a leader you don't get multiple opportunities to stuff up.

Did you read the post I was replying to, which you wrote??! I wasn't the one who infered Beamer was lashing out. I'm pretty sure he just acted like an immature, irresponsible player.
-
You can't be serious. I know men can be idiots and find it hard to deal with emotions/ hard situations and so they normally run away or lash out, but I've never heard of a guy urinating in public because he was angry or upset. Whichever way you look at it his behavior is unacceptable and sets a terrible example for the sort of behavior we expect from our players. I hope the club punishes him accordingly. Very very poor form.
-
Seriously pathetic. He is not 18 anymore and it's unacceptable to behave like that, especially when you are a vice captain. Why was he out so late after a game anyway! Ugh like we really need that. I suppose that is why he isn't captain.

Until Melbourne produces a player more worthy of tagging than Davey, he will continue to get tagged and he will continue to struggle. Teams target him physically because mentally he can't handle it. Since day one this has been his biggest downfall. That is why he didn't perform when we played finals, and why he generally struggles when the heat is on. Don't get me wrong, Davey is a sensational player and he gives his all, but he can't handle close checking by an opponent. Do you think an opposition player would ever do to Sylvia what they do to Davey? No, because Sylvia would thrive on it and Davey doesn't. It's easy to get into his head.

Chip. I have serious love for him. Seriously.

This could be the nail in Bailey's coffin

I don't disagree with you at all. We were terrible today, but the constant whinging from supporters on this site is just so goddamn boring and pointless. We got 4 points and at the end of the year nobody will remember this game or how much we won by. It was an ordinary performance and we managed to get the points anyway. 3 years ago we would have been jumping for joy at that, so we have improved and the expectations are higher, and that's a good thing. -
Newton is doing everything right, but Newton is not a replacement for Watts. If he was to come in it would have to be at the expense of Dunn or Martin, because that is the role he will be replacing. No chance he is getting a game ahead of Martin for the moment, and Dunn has been OK without setting the world on fire. IMO no matter how good Newton's performances in the VFL are, you don't drop a developing CHF who is meant to be a big part of our premiership push for a half forward/3rd tall who so far has proven to be terrible at AFL level. We have to bite our tongue and keep persisting with Watts. For mine he will and should continue to get a game for as long as he stands tall in contests and puts in the hard yards. If he fumbles than so be it, but as long as he isn't ducking his head or not trying, there is no point dropping him. He will learn nothing with Casey that he doesn't already know in terms of skills. He is leading hard and is very good in one on one contests right now for his size, but he isn't impacting games yet. We all knew that wasn't gonna happen any time soon, so I don't get why the suggestions to drop him keep coming up. Sorry, the rant is not related to anything you posted Nasher

I love strong courageous players. Campbell Brown is neither. He is a dirty sniper who regularly acts like a dog on the footy field out of sheer frustration. He is an ordinary player and an ordinary person who clearly goes in "hard" but doesn't have the balls to admit when he's crossed the line. Give me strong courageous players like Selwood any day of the week over cheap-shot wankers like Brown. Hope he cops plenty of weeks for what he did.
-
Whoever the dog was that put a knee into Grimes' head while Grimes was lying hurt on the ground, deserved to have his head ripped off by every Melbourne players in the area. Sadly I don't think the players noticed it. Hopefully the match review panel will and he'll cop weeks for that. Was a very low act!
-
No change. We won unconvincingly but I think we need to start to settle the team, and there are plenty of players who need to show more than they did today. Next week is the perfect opportunity to do that. Bartram did seem quite sore in the second half so he might be a sub.

St Kilda seem to be on their way to a third loss (well a second loss and a draw)... do you think their supporters are carrying on like pork chops as well? -

Why are you a Melbourne supporter? This club clearly gives you nothing but pain and you clearly hate everything we do, so stop wasting your time and move on. God I HATE people who just complain about everything all the damn time... and WE WON! Absolute joke -
Conditions suited him and he stepped up, as a good leader should. We need him to always perform at this level or he will quickly find himself at Casey. That is the harsh reality of being a top quality team, if you are not performing at a very high level you are in danger. He obviously got a big kick up the backside from Bailey last week and so was much better in the contests today.

How about a positive thread this year?
Jaded No More replied to Footynut's topic in Melbourne Demons
Here is a big positive for all you negative cry babies.... WE ARE STILL STANDING. FFS 4 years ago we looked to be dead as a club. That we are still here, playing, developing, progressing, surviving... that is the biggest positive of them all and everyone needs to remember that every time they feel like having a whinge about things. We are thriving as a club, and to me that is the only thing that matters at this point in time. -
It was a pretty miserable day, especially sitting in the rain watching that first quarter where the players really couldn't get out of first gear. The supporters were actually booing them, that's how badly we played. But at the end of the day we won plenty of those critical stats that we look to for improvement. Clearances, Inside 50s etc. Brisbane pressured us really well, and that is what poor teams do, they pressure the ball carrier to try and manufacture a turnover. The disappointing thing for me was how easily we let them switch play. They found the open side of the ground a lot better than we did. We also missed some very easy goals, which didn't flatter the overall result. But at the end of the day, winning ugly is better than losing pretty, isn't it? The expectations of some that we were going to win by 10+ goals were stupid to begin with, and if you go in with ridiculous expectations than prepare to be disappointed. The thing that keeps annoying me is that the players who get plenty of the ball, like Jones, are not very good players (although Jones was very good today, so not taking that away from him), but our better players just don't get enough of the ball. I want Davey, Bennell, Sylvia etc to dispose of the ball 20 times a game each, not half a dozen times, and that is the problem at the moment. And finally, Gysberts is a gun.
-
You can't make any conclusions from the 15 minute cameo performance today. He'll play a full game next week and then we can reassess. Bailey was giving him plenty of instructions though. Players take a few games to get their touch back. Chippa was pretty ordinary in the first quarter today but then found his gear and was brilliant to watch again.
-
I love the Gys!!!! Crap first quarter. Never heard the supporters boo the team before, but it was certainly deserved.
