  1. We've got money to spend, he'll cost us nothing in the way of picks, and is a good leader to have around the club. Why the hell wouldn't be want him? Time to pull out one of our famous Power Point presentations :D
  2. We shouldn't have to grovel. If he wants to come to Melbourne, be a leader, get plenty of game time and get well paid, then he's welcomed to. Otherwise he can [censored] off to Sydney, or Richmond, or whoever else can afford him. Disappointing that we couldn't package some of our higher picks for an earlier one, but all in all, good trade week result for Melbourne.
  3. This is potentially a very very good deal for Carlton, depending on what they get with pick 12 and how both kids develop. Voss clearly has both eyes on the premiership!
  4. Apparently when Steve Johnson was t0 be traded to Collingwood, he failed the medical. You gotta laugh at that sort of epic fail!
  5. Rubbish deal for Hawthorn. Swans are rebuilding through trades!
  6. If you believe the rumours, Carlton are interested in Daniel Bell. That shows you that one club's trash can be another club's treasure. Bell is hardly the worst player in the AFL. If Clarke can get a second go, so can Bell. If it happens, great, if it doesn't, no big deal. We'll definitely try to get something done though. We'd be stupid not to!
  7. VISY can't accommodate another shelf stacker?
  8. But that doesn't really matter, because whatever we trade him for, is a win for us if we're desperate to clear some space on the list. The ideal situation is to package Bell or Buckley or Bartram etc... with say pick 34 and trade it for pick 30 or pick 32. A club might be looking for a guy with some pace who can break the line, and moving back a couple of draft spots may seem a small price to pay for them. With most of the major deals completed (Fevola one pending), I think we'll swoop in tomorrow to try and get something like that done. It could be a win-win situation.
  9. Bell is contracted, so if we can't trade him, he stays. Buckley on the other hand would be hoping for a trade, because he is every chance of getting the boot. We have 4 uncontracted players left as far as I know, and if we want to use 5 picks in the ND and 1 PSD pick, plus promote Spencer onto the senior list, we gotta get rid of 3 more players. Buckley is therefore a 1 in 4 chance to stay. Odds are definitely against him.
  10. I suppose it disadvantages us, given we have first pick in the PSD and we want deals to fall over, but who cares, it's been such a good trade week. Better than the usual snooze- fest where a couple of duds get traded at 1:48pm on Friday! Even if we do nothing tomorrow, we still come out as the biggest and best position holders in the draft.
  11. And is Mark Williams (Port coach, not Hawks player) really overseas at the moment (reported in the paper)? What the hell, how can a coach be away from the club during trade week? Shouldn't he be approving deals?
  12. While Melbourne sits quietly in the corner, rubbing their hands together and cackling... Lets hope all the deals fall through and everyone had a meltdown tomorrow and we can snare ourselves something good in the PSD.
  13. It's the 4 year deal more so than the money. 1mil for 4 years is reasonable, but [censored] that's a very good contract for a 23 year old who so far is going on potential alone.
  14. Rumours abound that Bradshaw failed his medical. It would be better if he didn't, but breaks down after he moves to Carlton, because that would suck for Carlton and please me endlessly.
  15. Voss must be really bored (or drunk) :D
  16. That's a crazy contract for a nobody like Mumford. He's a lucky boy. Goes to show what a rare commodity ruckmen are!
  17. ARGH, what drugs was the graphic designer on? Horrible, HORRIBLE logo.
  18. Why waste a PSD pick on him when they could give us pick 40 for him and still have another 875 picks remaining? Absolutely, which is why a 1 year deal is a good outcome for Melbourne one way or the other.
  19. True, but it does give them a much smaller window of opportunity. At 31 (32?) and with dodgy hamstrings, Bradshaw will be lucky to survive another two seasons in top form. And just how many midfielders do they need? Have they looked at the state of their backline?
  20. Nobody is saying that Miller will command a good price from the GC, but he'll cost them virtually nothing as part of their huge salary cap and they could do worse in terms of leadership. They'll need to somehow get a list of 44 players together, so they'll definitely need list fillers. At 26, Miller might be a good fit to mentor the younger players. If we get pick 40 for him, that's 1 pick more than we were going to get from him this year.
  21. Newton is contracted for another year, which is exactly why a 1 year deal for Miller is a very smart move. Don't need to be locked into longer-term contracts with borderline best 22 players. Miller has a role to play off the field, and maybe on it as well, depending on injuries and the development of Watts in 2010. We lose nothing by giving him 1 year, as he would have netted us nothing in trade week.
