Very small sample size to use as a reliable indicator. It'd be interesting to see who the opposition was in the games where Gawn was missing. But I don't think we're useless without him at all either.

I think there's something to be said about Langer's attitude during the last Ashes test. He wasn't a happy camper at all when we lost that match to end up 2-2, despite retaining the urn. I loved that, and would love to see more of that hard edge in Goodwin when it comes to 'honourable losses'.
