    It is often reported that Assistant Coaches have a clause in their contracts which allow them to leave (break their contract) if they get a senior coaching gig elsewhere. As a matter of interest, is there any evidence of something similar in reverse which allows clubs to terminate contracts of assistant coaches if the senior coach is removed? Just seems a logical step to me given the assistants are so closely linked to the senior coach who chooses them.

    If you compare his first couple of games with his last couple, he probably had the greatest percentage improvement of any player on our list for the year.

    Not even nominated, but I would have gone with Luke Hodge for GOTY for his smother of a kick which he then converted into a long goal without breaking stride. Hard to know which it replaces - perhaps Walker?

    I like all the above dot points but want to add three more: must not be an introvert must be a confident public speaker, particularly in the media must be capable of representing the MFC well off field, such as in meetings with sponsors I don't know who meets all the above.

    I would have thought we would be contractually obligated to keep the Webjet logo visible for the term of the contract. I don't know when it's due to finish, but if we are still within the contract timeframe, we should still be promoting their brand for them.

    Most sport autobiographies are trite and inane. But if Neil Craig were to write one I suspect it would be a humdinger - honest, direct and informative. I'd love to read what he thinks about the last two years.

    I recall that Collingwood chose to use 'Side by side' as a membership slogan because the phrase polled well with members*. I wonder whether we did any research when coming up with this slogan? I like it a lot. (Of course, 'side by side' is what they are familiar with as that's how the courts place multiple defendants in the dock)

    Jon Ralph's article doesn't even bother to name a club which might potentially be interested. Has there been any scuttlebut which might suggest which clubs, if any, have been sniffing around Sylvia? Otherwise, it just looks like Ralph has looked at (1) Roos appointed, so need a Melbourne story (2) who's a free agent who could leave Melbourne?

    Is it reasonable to conclude that teams that don't have A-grade off-field talent don't have it on-field either? I've posted before that I can't believe that there was not the potential of an A-grade player in the last 100 or so we've drafted. Both Watts and Trengove were considered by the market prior to their drafting as being premium talent. Perhaps now with an A-grade CEO and an A-grade coach we'll see which players are actually A-grade.

    We've got an early draft pick which Essendon might want. But Essendon's tradeable players are likely to be key position players like Gumbleton or Pears. So which team with excess mids and a shortage of talls wants to join the party for a three way swap? I would have thought GWS, Bulldogs or maybe Carlton?

    I agree that up until now Watts hasn't shown that he could be a midfielder. But that was when we had sub-standard coaching and development. It's possible he may never make a midfielder but he has the speed and the skills - just needs to get hardness and desire (and probably a higher level of fitness). In short, I'm hopeful that under this new regime players will improve in so many ways. Watts improving to be a quality midfielder is my main individual hope.

    Thank goodness it's been announced. I was worried I was going to vote for Paul Roos above the line in the Senate tomorrow. What a waste that would have been. He has much more important work to do than that.

    Can't quite see how this would work. If a player has a reason to be concerned about in infraction notice, would another club want that player? if a player has no reason to be concerned, why would they leave Essendon?
