  1. Colin playing for a team on the wrong side of an 84 point drubbing. He would have felt right at home
  2. I think we all need to get used to that "interesting fact" Red. Even in his last year commentators never seemed to tire from telling us that Brad Green trialled with Man U
  3. Personally I'm a bit suss on Bernie. On Friday night he kicked beautifully on both feet. Not really the Melbourne way is it
  4. Beat me to it Hardtack. Cam was cast into the role of the villain last year and made a poster boy for all our past coach's mistakes. It was great to see him crashing packs and looking fit on Friday night. Roos also mentioned him in dispatches. I hesitate to use the words "Leigh Brown" but perhaps Pederson can be our late maturing utility that Brown made his own.
  5. You are right Colin in the 70s Cam would have actually been tall enough to be a ruckman as Mick was, but would need a torch to find his way out of Mick's shadow who was just one cm taller but roughly 40kg heavier (135kg). Imagine rocking up to Roosys first day of pre-season at that weight. Guessing his 3km time wasn't too flash Mick also had one of footballs great nicknames; the Galloping Gasometer
  6. Two things i take from that interview 1) He wants to stay, his default position is to stay. If the team shows improvement he will stay ("the contract will sort itself out") 2) If we remain a shambles he may exercise his right to look at other options He seems open and honest. Chip ain't no Tom Scully
  7. I know i should know this, but are you allowed to grab the bloke who has the ball by the arm? When Dusty did his fend off on Chip last night I wondered why Frawley didn't grab him around his wrist with two hands and start swinging.
  8. Quote Nathan Basset makes a fair assessment of Georgiou. Really liked his game last night. A couple of times when the ball stagnated in our back line Alex ran to make position and got the ball moving again. Didn't see any glaring mistakes from him and does seem to make good decisions. Really good spoiler for his height, good body contact and doesn't seem to mind some argy bargy. Also like that he doesn't look quite normal Has a different take on football life as week according to the MFC.......http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2014-02-13/georgiou-cool-calm-and-collected Won't be a champion but could well become a MFC crowd favourite
  9. Fair enough that there is lots of love for JKH but Dom Barry is going to be fun to watch develop too. He has got that silky, time slows down when he has the ball thing And just watching the replay of Ty Vickory going the eye gouge/neck twist on Jack Grimes. I think it has been reported before that he may not be the worlds best human being and now I understand why
  10. And I'm not entirely convinced that this is some perverted altered reality. Mentions of Pederson and courageous acts, Bail kicking goals as a small forward and a possession count in our favour by 130. Excuse me as I go throw some buttered toast in the air and see how it falls
  11. True Chook, but Melbourne's midfield tonight was miles and miles better than last year. And it will only get better
  12. There is a fairly easy argument to be made mjt that without Jimmy's debt demolition there would be no club left for you to criticise.
  13. Yes it is about perspective. During the tanking saga I was completely pessed-off that Roos' instruction to his forward, during a NAB Cup game, not to kick a goal never received the serious attention it deserved. How much more evidence of not trying to win do you need than a coach telling a player not to kick goals? Now I just take those comments as the joke they were obviously intended as.
  14. i imagine that will be pretty close to the starting line up. Would perhaps swap Blease and JKH. The new kid will still get a run and instruct Blease to run out the whole game, run as hard in defence as in attack and build that engine in match play.
  15. It will be interesting. Like others, I don't know where he fits in. He has an unique skill set; 200+cm, quicker than most of our midfielders and, in form, can take a good grab. On the other hand whilst he jagged a few goals last year you wouldn't bet the farm on that kicking action and he will never be a tap ruckman. Jack's too good to be playing Casey but where does Roos play him?
  16. Poor Roosy. And that was just for putting Hogan in the Blue team. Imagine what Jesse will do to him if he doesn't get picked to play Rnd 1.
  17. If he had a four year contract due to finish at the end of this year, wouldn't that would mean he signed after his AA year - 2011,12,13 and 14?
  18. I agree Satry but the best thing for Chip is to be a one club player. Unlike the past two coaches we know that Roos can actually coach. We will rise and Chip will stay. Managers should also explore options to see what the market will pay and use this information in negotiating contracts. Also as players move around more I believe that, long term, the value attached to being a one club player will increase as it becomes rarer.
  19. Pretty sure the reason that his contract is fairly modest this year is because is because he was one of the players who had a front ended contract. His manager should be shot if he couldn't negotiate a decent contract with Melbourne after his 09/10 years.
  20. Just listened to the three AGM speeches on the MFC site finishing with Roosy's. I know it is early days, we haven't played a game and lids are supposed to be kept on but We Are On! This season is going to be fun. Yeah we will cop a couple of canings but there will be enough opportunities to belt out the song and we will argue over which mid/fwd/back should be considered for AA honours There will be hope and relief that staying with this club will be rewarded. Bring on 2014!
  21. I know it is hard to believe Chook but Franklin didn't end up at GWS. Good news is I think you can now find an emotional connection with Sydney
  22. In order of most disliked to least disliked West Coast - Moving electronic boundary line signage drives me nuts, hate it. Umpire advantage. Unreasonable supporters. Poxy one-eyed coverage on the games most overrated player GWS - Scully. I hope they lose every game for eternity by 100 points and at least one game by 187 but I know they are going to get very good North - Brent Harvey Carlton - Strutting, arrogant, whinging supporters of a team with an historically corrupt management Essendon - Michael Long, drug cheats and James Hird who has gone from being my most admired person in the AFL to someone who should be banned from having anything to do with football ever again Adelaide - Dreadful one eyed supporters and coverage. Collingwood - For many years would have been top of this list. Can still muster some dislike for the smarmy Buckley but even their supporters don't seem as bad as they used to. Cats/Sydney/Hawthorn. How I would like us to be. These clubs will no doubt move up this list when we eventually get into their league and can actually challenge them to an even game of football. Port - Snatched the title of "Greatest losing margin in a Grand Final" from us. Thankyou Freo - Flaky team made good with hang-in-there-supporters. Matt Price wrote about them, their motif is an anchor and the player most easiest to hate also looks like a Munster. You can't completely dislike this lot. Saints/Gold Coast - Different but vaguely inoffensive and I can't separate them Western Bulldogs - Gave us Rnd 22 1987 Richmond - Yeah, I know but I can't help myself. I have good friends who barrack for them, one of whom used to be able to do a really good Michael Roach taking a mark impersonation. The coming ninth thing doesn't hurt nor does the getting beaten in a final by a team that came ninth. I almost wish them well
  23. I'm with you there JVF. If anyone is going to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and win it for us it will be a fully fit Mitch
  24. Nice Australian understatement on Jan 26 Corowa. Tiger's record included 6 Grand finals, 5 winning ones plus another finals series in a career stretching only 7 senior seasons. MFC Team of the Century (emergency) and inaugural inductee to the MFC Hall of Fame. B & F runner up in a Premiership year and also leading goal kicker. A handy pick-up indeed
