  1. Nice article but the kid is a way too generous, level headed and forgiving for my liking. Can anyone see where he hopes Hogan runs through Chip at the opening bounce of the Hawks match? No snide quips about loyal country lads? Honestly the kid just seems happy just to move on. What sort of attitude is that? Someone needs to get his email address and send him the last 100 bitter and twisted pages of the Scully thread. That'll sort him out
  2. How many paid up members does Demonland have? A number of years ago I remember seeing the various footy sites ranked in terms of popularity. By memory the AFL site was clearly number one, bigfooty and then some of the larger clubs official sites and then Demonland came in around 8th ish. It was easily first in terms of unofficial supporter sites. Demonology was also on the list. I remember thinking that we are certainly a passionate bunch
  3. Absolutely. Last year he inherited someone else's list now he is building his own legacy
  4. As the old joke goes Paul Roos asks Santa for a unicorn. Santa says 'don't be silly, you need to be realistic'. So Paul says 'Well I'm coach of the Melbourne Football Club and I'd really just like an injury free Jesse Hogan, for Jack Watts to reach his potential and for consistency at the AFL tribunal". And Santa says 'What colour unicorn do you want?'
  5. Nothing compared to the stir Phil Carman caused in 1976/7? when he first pulled on his white boots. Did anyone do it before Philthy?
  6. That's not a bad idea. You could have a 'much maligned' banner; Saty, Simon Godfrey, Big Al Nicholson, Jordie McKenzie bookended with Hogans Heroes
  7. Not sure if this is such a good idea. On the one hand if I bump into Saty/TDI at the footy I can thank him for the training reports but on the other given some of the nastiness directed to him in these threads ......
  8. Can any of the regular attendees of the training sessions let us know how Mitch is fitting in and more particularly what his kicking is like. I'm still a bit confused as to how he ended up effectively pick 100. Best and fairest winner in a team one game and percentage off 3rd spot on the TAC ladder. Versatile size at 188cm/88kg and reportedly a booming left foot. He played 16 TAC games averaging 19 disposals and 5 marks. Apparently has a great attitude So what is the knock on him. Can't hit targets? Too slow? Looks a bit like Simon Godfrey?
  9. Very fond memories of that game WYL. That was the day my girlfriend (who is now my wife and mother to our two kids) ditched her families Collingwood bias and became a Demon girl for life.
  10. My wife and I have the same diet HH that we call the No White Sh it diet. Same as yours except we add rice and, for me, beer. I admit I don't find it particularly easy but it certainly does the trick.
  11. Reckon a 3 X Best and Fairest winner who is also our current captain could slot into that centre spot
  12. Brett had the wonderful ability to find space where there was none. Surrounded by four opposition players, deep in the back pocket, and Father Time slow generally meant the odds were heavily in Brett's favour. Bit of a hip shimmy and out would come a perfectly weighted handball to a running Melbourne player. Along with Sean Wight one of my all time favourite players As others have said another Demon team featuring Lovett, Stretch and Viney can only be a good thing
  13. Coincidence that Tom Mc's #25 + Oscar Mc's #28 = 53?
  14. And unfortunately after that hit Hird dusted himself off, slowly got back into the match and pretty much won it for them As an footy supporter I always enjoyed watching Buckley, Voss and Hird play and the debate as to who was the best. Whatever we think of him now he was an out and out champion of that club. It is a shame his off-field activities have so irretrievably tarnished his own legacy
  15. True and perhaps I should have qualified that with saying midfielders. As has been said before Roos certainly likes his centre square combatants to be big bodied. Over the last couple of years we have drafted Tyson 186cm/81kg Michie 185/85 White 188/85 Harmes 185/78 Newton 184/84 Brawshaw 187/86 and Petracca 186/92 Even Neal-Bullen 182/77, Salem 183/81 and Riley 182/86 are relatively big boys. There is a theme here There is a fair bit of go forward in that group and let's hope, as you said, they can play but at least we won't be easily bullied like we have done in the past. In a season or two we may even be able to bully a few sides ourselves and wouldn't that be wonderful
  16. According to the NEAFL Grand Final record Aaron is 188cm and 90kgs. There is certainly a theme across our Club these days that the time of the stick insect is gone.
  17. Agree. Daniel Cross is a man you can't shoot, root or electrocute. He may well be indestructible.
  18. "Truck!" Perfect, can already hear the crowd yelling it as he bursts through the centre bounce pack.
  19. Interesting that the bloke you call the worlds oldest fanboy won't be reading your posts but I bet you will be reading his training reports
  20. I wasn't. If i conveyed that I apologise. Should we leave it at that?
  21. I am not bagging Neitz, I believe he was a very good player for us. If you want to revisit games how about the first quarter of the 2000 Grand Final? Neitz hits the post with a banana from 5 metres out. Next goal comes from Hird. Neitz then misses from 30m out on a 45 degree angle. Hird ends the day with 29 disposals, 2 goals, 3 tackles and a Norm Smith. He was a great player Neitz kicks two goals (Lloyd kicked 4) after the game was already lost. David had 0 tackles. 0. The great players stand up on the big occasions. Maybe he is a Melbourne great but, if he is, that means the bar is considerably lower at Melbourne than at other clubs I'll stick with Flower being the one great i have seen play for us. Again, Im not bagging him I just think he was a Melbourne very good
  22. Dunstall, Lockett, Brown, and as much as I hate to admit, Lloyd were great forwards. Carey and Ablett senior were the only two footballers I would have paid to see if Melbourne weren't playing. They were greats. I was lucky enough to see the tail end of Hudsons career. To me, he was the greatest forward. Franklin will be known as a great. Neitz is not in this company. As for being a great leader I believe it is difficult to influence a footy team when you are stuck predominately in the forward 50. This is not David's fault but you would often watch a change of momentum in the game with Neitz watching 100m away in the goal square. I also don't believe he was good at slotting those crucial, team lifting Captains goals Flower is the only great player I have seen for Melbourne. The next group down for me is where Stynes and Neitz sit along with Lyon. Our current captain may eventually join that group too
  23. David isn't a club great. He was a very good who played a lot of matches. He was neither a great forward or great captain I appreciate others may not agree
  24. That is a great point. You would imagine that the Bombers would not be in their current predicament if Hird had of done an apprenticeship under someone like Roos
  25. Intriguing "what if" Earl. Brereton was the CHF of his generation. He played in 5 premierships, was a 9 time State of Origin player and was All Australian. He was a great mark and loved kicking pressure goals. He relished contact and performing on the biggest stage. How would he go today? At 186cm he is the same height as Dom Tyson. Petracca and Brayshaw. So where would Dermott play today? No doubt he would reinvent himself but it is difficult to see him being the dominant player he was just 25 years ago
