MCC Committee Election - who supports The Dees?
dee-eee replied to dee-eee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Our support amongst MCC members has dropped to about 20% so don't assume all Committee aspirants wish us well . As a 47 year member i know of more than a few members who resent the extra practical assistance we get over other MCG home tenants . -
Is regularly dropping "sitters' in marking attempts an "intangible" ?
-
Of the six candidates for the two vacancies, only one, Michael Andrew, declares his support for us in his personal statement. Can we assume Matthew Fowles, brother (?) of former committeeman and Dees supporter Will Fowles , is another? Before we vote, can we be enlightened about the allegiances of Kim Brewer, Peter King, John Mugavin and Christopher Stoltz?

The only formal "MCC Ladies Stand" was the 1906 Grey Smith Stand demolished after the 1966 Grand Final.

He was a bit stiff i reckon .

Opportunities missed or momentum building?
dee-eee replied to Fitz Fitzpatrick's topic in Melbourne Demons
The "old house" at 26 Jolimont Tce was sold by the MCC over the weekend for over $4m ! I used to fantasise that the former Dees admin office may have housed our club museum . -
As a kid in the late 50's/early 60's i would often jump the fence at quarter and three quarter time and attend the team huddle . Security was non existent at most old suburban away games . Cigarettes were openly handed out to several players by trainers . Big Bob Johnson was a particularly enthusiastic recipient .

It's a no brainer . The successor to The Great Man must be selected by Roos himself . How could anyone doubt his judgement? No more panels or Garry Lyon advice thankyou!

Tangles played 85 games for us before leaving in his mid twenties to focus on cricket . I remember he wore number one and although quite awkward of style was quite a strong mark . Believe it or not he is alleged to be Australia's largest selling author courtesy of all those slim cricket humour books released just before christmas obviously perfect presents for dads and uncles .

What a heart thumping finish not shared by the Crows supporters who started departing in droves when only a couple of goals down with 7 minutes left ! I can't remember the last time we experienced that stressful excitement of a close one .

Worst 1st rnd draft pick in history...clue: not Melbourne

I remember Banik as a very average player .....slow , solidly built half back flanker with thighs like the young Jobe Watson . An odd choice for top draft pick . -

The Toiges had a couple of ripper number one picks in the late 1980's : Anthony Banik and Richard Lounder.......enough said ! -
In the spirit of the Aztecs , Incas and Mayans i am calling for the ritual slaughter/sacrifice of a certain number 9 from the far away Land of the Giants .

Such as : " Collingwood , the grandest of the grand old teams " .

Of course he's going well "in strong Eagles Side" . Says it all really .

Jack , with his height ,agility , pace and pinpoint kicking would have been a superior wingman in the old one-on-one days out there on their Pat Malone . Those of us ( including former coaches ) who thought that over time he would gain 10kg and become a robust key position player can now see that Roos has worked him out as a free flowing centreman who needs space .

Ricky Jackson was a tiny/ speedy, second-rover/forward pocket type typical of his era . A Toiges reject , he was a bit of a tease in that he could kick three or four brilliant goals in a game and then "disappear" in subsequent matches . He was almost the quintessential 19th man . I'd be surprised if he made it to 100 games .

I'm seriously impressed Biff with your mum's memory after just reading that the legendary La Fontaine retired in 1945 .....that's nudging 70 years ago !

Disappointed to receive the Club email stating that the AGM next month will return to a its original formal nature devoid of nearly all of its recent Information Night aspects . Other than meeting the players and listening to a "brief football report" there's apparently not much else other than formalities . Just when many of us are regaining our enthusiasm , this is shaping as a public relations disaster .

Jeez , i SO want to believe but the guy is about to start his SIXTH season and we are still speculating about his elite potential . I expect improvement but will he ever have that required level of hardness ?

The whole club turned on Jacko when he punched Robbie Flower in the head in an in-house practice game . A natural talent but an insane egotist.

To match your glass eye ?

Wow... the physical similarities bertween the two are more like father and son . Check out the hair line and particularly the shared distinctive upper lip .

Loved the pics and much appreciate the effort . I was, however, a bit disturbed at times at the likeness in some shots of recruit Georgiou to Jordan Gysberts .
