Every time we were bad and Malthouse was commentating for Seven he'd say Howe is one player that he can see becoming a special player for us. The one that can do the impossible when needed to spark the team, but at the same time still be a solid contributor.

I still think that defense is the wrong place for him. It was good for a period, it got him intercepting the ball and giving run of half back but clearly he's not accountable enough. I think wing position where he's given license to roam at both ends is where he belongs, make him a defensive winger but when he get the ball he's instructed to back himself with his delivery. The enigma is how to get him wanting the contest.

I'm stoked to hear Flash had an impact, I really hope he has a good year. What (very little) I've seen of him he seems to have gotten a bit of his Davey dance back. Give thing is backing this quarter up with a good 4 quarter effort v Lions. I can accept us losing but we must so everything to try not to be blown off the park. If we can achieve that it'll be something to build on. The important thing is its given a few of the younger players a taste of victory at AFL level. Even if Viney didn't have a good game (whether he was injured or not) he has had his first win.

Every person that's watched a minute of AFL knows that when Col Sylvia is on, he is a very difficult player to beat. Problem is you can count how many times he's on for a year on one hand. Consistency has always been, and always will be his issue.

In a time where records have been broken (in a bad way) for us, it's good to get one on our side. Well done on the win, some positive energy will be just what the doctor ordered.
-
Agreed, we had worse fitness but better desire under Bailey. Still managed to compete better.
-
We get the first two goals of the quarter then we win. They get one we're done, there doesn't seem to be any confidence. Can we forfeit the year?

I don't care about what happens in the future, I don't care if people say "it's just GWS", I just want something positive for a change. Just win this effing game!!!

Ok I just read the club statement, and feel free to call me a sheep or blindly accepting the clubs word but is a total storm in a teacup. The ONLY mistake we made, which was stupid, is not stating that we had an indirect involvement with Dank. Everything was administered by the doctor, everything was checked to make sure it fell under WADA and ASADA's guidelines. This is again an instance of gutter journalism hitting more lows in yet another sensationalist report. I like McLardy, I think he has done some good things for us, but why he didn't say in the initial statement at the time that we had an indirect association with Dank is beyond me. Surely he must know by now that it doesn't matter if try to keep a lid on it, the lid always comes off.

I gotta say the hostility towards Jamar is disgusting. He has been a very good ruckman for a number of seasons. The mistake is with the club signing him for 3 years. He has shown loyalty to us signing at times when he was being pursued by other clubs for bigger money. Despite the claim by the OP, he is not the worst player the reach 100 games, he is in fact very far from it. He is not playing well, that is bleeding obvious, IMO it's time he was dropped. He is a senior player not performing, he simply needs a run at Casey not just for him but for the symbolism of the fact that no position is safe.

Can someone please say what the score is?

Cutting Junior the way we did it was a mistake IMO appointing Sheedy wouldn't have achieved much. Would we be in better shape? Perhaps. Would he have gotten us to finals and a shot at the big one? I doubt it. But what happened with Junior was wrong, there are some players that get to choose when they finish up. He should've been one of them. Instead he played one season with GWS and really didn't get the send off he deserved.

I think anything that's "Melbourne" would be great, the Stynes name would obviously carry a lot of emotion to it.

Gosch's paddock was an unofficial name give to that place but eventually stuck, given it is now ours I feel a rename is in order. Perhaps Barassi Oval?
-
He is an excellent captain IMO. Should be sole captain but there is leadership in Trenners as well. I'd just like to see them both play good football together. Good work Jack!

Not the outs I would've but then I thankfully didn't see the bombers game. On what I've read though and on the face of it I don't see the benefit of dropping Watts. Perhaps it'll give him confidence racking up possessions at VFL level, but what I see happening is more ammunition for the media on the issue of Watts. Blease getting dropped is even more bizarre, he is one of a few that take the game on, and while yes he has defensive issues I would much rather see him in backing himself to be able to beat a player with pace than have him gain fitness and touch at Casey. This must be Jamar and Sylia's last go around the merry-go-round. These two were woeful against port and I didn't hear any improvement v Essendon.

Well McLardy said everyone's position is under the microscope, perhaps the Bugler could be next!

Well it's what a lot of people on here wanted so I hope this makes them happy. Personally I will try to remember Schwab as one of the men responsible for saving our club when we were at our direst position. This next appointment we HAVE to get right.

It's a very simple no from me. Was does he bring to the table? Comedic value? If we go down the experienced coach path then it's Mark Williams for me.

Honestly I think this is the coolest and best response to this. Stability is key here and least the vision of a united club. To sack people and spill the board would only serve to fracture the club and undo the work of Jimmy. And people should never forget that while it was Jimmy that was the catalyst for change at the club. Schwab, Don and the current board were all the prime movers behind the scenes to see it realised. Of all the media talk from the club, Mitch for me is the key. Of course he's not going to go on and slag the coach and the board, but he's dead right in that when you're facing a 100+ defeat the players are truly the only ones responsible for preventing it.

He did have a hell of a referee in Mick Malthouse who said in no uncertain terms that he was ready and that we should get him after we failed to get that man himself. We also had anecdotal evidence from midfield players saying that he was the reason for them taking the next step. He had also proven to be able to talk the talk in terms of getting players to move to us (Clark and Dawes). Does this make him a good coach, no. But these are all things required of a good coach. I think the panel was well within their rights to hire him based on the information available. We also had DB has the coddler and that didn't work, now people are complaining because he's too hard on he players and saps them of confidence. Honestly I think the players need to head to bunnings and harden the F up. I'm not going to watch the presser, I can picture it well enough in my mind. Feel sorry for the bloke, but he too needs to move on and find a way to get the players up. Certainly no rest for the wicked, there's still 20 rounds to go.

Being over in the US at the moment reading a small positive, no matter how small, is a nice change.

It's interesting to think but that is the last time the I can remember the players actually responding to a coach at the Dees.
