  1. A goal being awarded even if the ball hits the post? Can we not retain some unique parts of our great game? What happens if the ball comes back into play, is it play on? There are a couple of disclaimers to this rule, one being that if the ball is touched into the post it is a behind, that's fine. The other is my favourite, which is the ball must travel on the full for a goal to still be awarded. So if the ball bounces and skims the post on it's way across the goal line it will not be credited as a goal? Is it just me or is this crazy? As anyone who takes in the game would know, there are a large percentage of players that like to bounce the ball through nowadays. To me this has just been a hastily thought out idea in response to the weekends error's. Just leave the rest of the game as it is, it is fine how it is. I'm not surprised they are looking at the interchange restrictions. A cap of 80 which is still 20 per qtr should be ample and it does allow for more evenness if one team loses a player through injury during a game. I am happy with this change as it is less central to any particular rule that affects the cosmetics of the game/s.
  2. Nor was I and for mine this fact gives the shield another strong MFC link rather than thoughts of a generic lending of, say an English football teams similar design.
  3. How good to have so many favourite pieces of play from one game. This side has come so far so quickly with plenty of growing still to do. Great post.
  4. Yeah agree with this totally, but I would loveto see him back. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/100104/default.aspx
  5. Full credit to you for taking in any of that Round 1 game.
  6. Sure, Hawthorn have had their injury concerns, somewhat self inflicted after their 2008 triumph but it must be difficult to reconcile not making finals for a second successive year after winning a flag. Even if they get in this year they will only scrape through. Does that warrant a president being so outspoken and segregating departments, especially FD? Stynes and the character of him would never allow for such self serving interests. No one is ever 'lucky' to win a flag. Hawthorn played fantastic footy in 2008 but I feel that after their top 6 players they bottom out quite quickly, not as quick as a St Kilda but their backline for instance is very very weak and is an area we should look to exploit this weekend.

  8. Surely not? I thought he was gone for the season No chance he could come straight back in is there? Does the hammy again he's got six months to recover, no chance? Any chance
  9. Yep!
  10. Better balance to this team from the Rnd 1 version IMO. Grimes would be more than handy though
  11. Not sure that I agree with you there E. I've been to GF's where obviously we (Dees) aren't competing and while yes, I do choose an allegiance for the day there is no way my passion is anywhere near what it would be for the Dees. The 2000 GF I ended up with a seat in the very last row of the top stand of the Southern Stand. The passion up there was full of Ess & Demon fans because we were all thrown up there to accommodate the corporates.
  12. It's a sad reality the allocation of GF tickets to the rank and file supporter. Taking my red & blue goggles off for one moment, it is for this reason that sitting back watching the game on Saturday night (Cats/Pies) is such a joy. The near 90,000 supporters are exactly that and it makes for such a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone at the ground is heavily invested in the result, as we all are here at Demonland every week. Sadly, too few are heavily invested in the GF result. Before anyone starts responding with the commercial reality, yes yes I am well aware of this but it does not make it sit any better with me. I have already started looking at increasing my membership. My 2 year old is taking in Casey games at the moment to enjoy the freedom but from next year I hope to start taking him along and then the year after, my near 1 year old (he is one on Friday! - Happy Birthday Riley!). I can suffer from Olympic/Southern Stand fever and being seated around other Demon supporters will keep me calm, hopefully!
  13. Someone, anyone to knock Campbell Brown senseless. I'm not a fan of advocating violence but please, someone put this guy on his arse! True prediction for the week - Brad Green to kick 6 & Jurrah to kick 5. The Hawthorn backline is no good, Dees win by 34pts. It will be a comfortable win for one or the other.
  14. Done well here Dappa. Demonland prediction of the year!
  15. Melbourne v Richmond 9 James Frawley (Melb) 8 Lynden Dunn (Melb) 7 Brad Green (Melb) 3 Daniel Jackson (Rich) 2 Aaron Davey (Melb) 1 Tom Scully (Melb)
  16. That was good for 07-09
  17. Good tackle though!
  18. Yep, sure the Hawks are all over this thread and wouldn't have a clue otherwise!
  19. Well said Dee Dee, gee I miss watching him at the moment even considering how well we are going
  20. Talk of video reviews etc I don't like. Where does it start and end? Using Rugby League as example, when the Video Ref is called they look at the entire lead up to the score (try in this case) and confirm no off-sides, illegal blocks etc. Does this mean in AFL we would review the lead up to the goal? Say a push in the goal square or the like, does this get reviewed or just the contentious goal line decision? I think video opens up further questions, our game is so unique and flowing that I find it hard to see video coming in to resolve this. Maybe a second goal umpire, maybe the goal umpire wired up to a 3rd umpire who can over rule a decision but it would have to be quick.
  21. Mate, if that is the stuff that Cale Morton is made of then he seriously needs to have a look at himself. If that was true I say the FD have got it spot on in having him go back and work on the defensive side of his game. Maybe his entire mindset needs a re-think. Name me one young player besides Cale that would be unhappy with their treatment? Using C Johnson & S Buckley is a terrible example, they are getting the same treatment at their current clubs, probably because they aren't quite at the required level to consistently play AFL football. Morton missed games early because of injury then came straight into the side after getting some match fitness, this suggests the FD hold him in high enough regard. To say anyone is ruining him is crazy. He has the talent. Get over yourself and bring it!
  22. Indeed! He is tough bugger, I'd imagine it would take a lot to keep him out.
  23. I was in the rooms DeezMan. He DID have crutches.
  24. That's what I heard from people in the room after seeing him on crutches.
  25. Hopefully the Chip is ok as I was in the rooms after the game and he was on crutches. *GULP* Would he be our most important player now? IMO he is very close. It is nice that we have Matt Warnock playing excellent footy at Casey and would be ready, but we would miss Chip no doubt. Thanks to Don McLardy for the invite to the rooms yesterday, great to belt out the song with the boys!! Go Dees!
