6 - Sylvia 5 - Jamar 4 - Garland 3 - McKenzie 2 - Frawley 1 - MacDonald Good games from Watts & Skull with some errors thrown in. Bartram damn good too & most votes to the backilne who together with Sylvia, McKenzie & big Russian kept going strong through the 2nd half.

I was told that Dennis is a Melbourne supporter. Not too sure of this although he doesn't hide his admiration for Bob Johnson and the players of that era. Always been pretty positive towards us as a commentator.
-
Not sure that any of them are questioning the intent of our trades?! More expressing their admiration for a player on our list. Fair enough? The OP was vouching for how Matt Warnock may feel more than anything else.
-
At least he is not wearing Collingwood jumpers on the front page - see Rohan Connolly in The Age. For those that may be unaware Mike Sheahan is/was a Demon supporter. He is quick to write positive articles about us in that Monday write up.

Matty Collins was an under rated type. Liked him. I was sitting in the very back row of the Southern Stand for the GF. When Powell kicked his goal I was telling all the Essendon fans they would choke like 99. Sadly, this did not eventuate! Will never forget the Prelim Final night. Went back to what was then the Ox's pub in Port Melb where plenty of other dees fans headed and it was one hell of a night, ended up sharing cabs with fellow supporters into Crown and continuing the party. I think we were all aware of the task ahead the next week and celebrated that night. Leading up to the Prelim there was no one else that was going to stop us in the form we were in, except for that damn red & black mob.

Not sure it happens at all other sides in the comp. Especially with Key position types. Who is the full back at Geel knocking at the door? St Kilda? Hawthorn? Dogs? Certainly none at Collingwood as they had Anthony playing full back on Miller last week who kicked 4.4. Not suggesting that will 'instantly' want to leave, but he would be frustrated, especially this week. He would also be aware of his currency being out of contract, well his manager would.

Having never played at this level therefore obviously not playing State of Origin, I believe the players of today should have a say about this. Would they seriously rate it as a career highlight? I certainly would never refer to State of Origin as a farce as I am sure the majority who played would not either. The 89 game is still one of the best times I have had at a football match. For me it comes back to how football has changed so significantly. Back in 89 all those champions probably had a 6 pack after the game, the athletic nature of today doesn't allow for this.

I watched the 94 Round 24 game last night. Took me a week to get around to to watching as I had watched Sundays game about 6 times!! Found myself comparing the 94 side to the current one also. The game is played so differently to 94 which is quite noticeable. Our backline on that day, IMO I would have no hesitation in an entire swap for our current defence. The 2000 side? The defence alone that year, IMO was damn good. Love Ingerson who was so under rated and has continued to bleed red & blue.

Nup. Looks like a player that has played over 100 games already and is a waste at Casey. I'll back the footy dept in their decisions as all have been working quite well, but not rapt with him at Casey.
-
Agree with this entirely. If he plays again, he is the captain. Should his form drop off considerably, Junior is not a bloke to stay around for his own purpose, he is a club man through and through. Agree also that he is not holding Trengove back. It is out of Junior, McKenzie & Jones IMO that play similar positions/roles.

I suggested Roughead, Nasher. They didn't like that but I said I would throw in our first pick plus Warnock. They lean towards a Beau Dowler.

If I were Matty Warncock I would be a bit frustrated in not receiving a call up for this weeks game. (He could still be a late inclusion?) Considering the job he did last time we played Brissy at the G and also given his superb form at Casey (credit to him), he may have expected a run this week. My closest mates are Hawthorn supporters and they have no hesitation in saying they would love to take Warnock off our hands. They are baffled that we are not picking him. IMO Bails etc have picked the right set up without Warnock and Riv is playing some good footy as the anchor down back. I wont even bother here going into the superlatives that describe Chip & Garland! But with Fev & Brown in the line up, if either were to play at full potential they could become quite a handful for Riv or Col G. (I except Chip to take care of one of them!). I expect that Col may play on a Cornelius or Rockcliff, so at this stage Riv would take Fev. In his current form you might expect Riv to handle Fev but Fev is surely due to have a better game unless he is restricted severely as being suggested. Going back to my Hawthorn mates, would it be impossible to think that Warnock could seek a trade? There are many good teams that would take him. Even at a St Kilda for example, I would have Warnock any day of the week before Dawson. Hawthorn need more defenders, badly. His work ethic back at Casey has been great, no doubt he would be disappointed this week.

It's an interesting point Steamin. Next year is going to be his last and he probably deserves that opportunity. I love Junior as I am sure you do but I can see the future starting to take over. I keep saying that as we move forward there will not be enough room for Junior, Moloney, Jones & McKenzie once some of the younger kids come on. Junior IMO still sits ahead of this group. McKenzie will take over this spot and one of Moloney/Jones wont make the cut each week.

I'll stick with Judd. He was a Dees supporter after all! Without the bias I still say Judd. Geelong's midfield has much more depth than West Coast's when they played off in GF's which is of greater benefit to Ablett. IMO players like Selwood for example take a fair bit of pressure off by getting in for the hard balls at stoppages where Judd ALWAYS seems to be the one that has to instigate this, especially so at Carlton as they have many more midfielders that play the outside and kick. Ablett certainly wins his share of his OWN ball but he gets a lot of help in this area. There have been a few games this year (V Melbourne for one) where Judd has taken Carlton to victory, I think it was in Adelaide his first game back after suspension and he took that side to another level. If Ablett goes to Gold Coast I'm not so sure he could do this. There is some suggestion here that Judd is past is best, he does seem to get agitated more often, simply because of what I outlined above. I see that similar to a big CHF like Brereton & Carey, his body has taken a heap of punishment and some of that is taking a toll. Both champions, for mine Judd is a superstar.

Agree with this. The structure is most important. From there you just pick your best side. In our case we have rightly been picking to give others opportunity so it will be interesting to see if the club think a finals shot is still possible by just picking the best side this week. That's why Nath Jones will be under as much pressure as a Bartram who wont be going anywhere. I liked the run and pressure that Wonna, Bennell, Maric & Bail bought to the side. Col Sylvia performing as an A grade jet in the middle wasn't missed around the half forward line, he has actually made it tougher to work out who plays in the midfield IMO as he is as good as any midfielder when in that form. Trengove, IMO has to come straight back, already plays with the surety of a 150 game player, no point in playing him at Casey. I'd suspect that outside of Paul Johnson, if the MC decided one ruck was enough that one of the half forwards would be looked at to make way, one of Maric or Bail. IMO it would be Maric. If/when Moloney & Junior return this will see possibly another half forwards spot under pressure or a Nath Jones, McKenzie. I am really liking the work of Jordie McKenzie & would include him before Jones. Going to be tough calls when all of Scully, Trengove, Gysberts, Blease, Sylvia, Davey, Bennell, Moloney, Jones, McKenzie, Bail, Tapscott, Maric, Wonna are fit & fighting for spots in the middle & half forward. (Not including Junior) If Warnock was to come in to take Fev it would have to be Riv to make way, owing to the structure argument. Riv starting to play as well as his early days & would be unlucky but the club have been picking on match ups which has served them well. Against Richmond this same swap the opposite way would apply.

Has to be All-Australian.

Still got it on VHS.

Rather, just take out the positive when a young kid is being talked up & seemingly showing good improvement/development. Obviously there is some treacle and the harshest criticism is likely to be 'could do more'. But you can understand a genuine positive from a review & filter the treacle. Case in point for me, Jack Fitzpatrick now Luke Tapscott.
-
Damn back and hamstring injuries, always seem to grow into at least 8 weeks on the sidelines. Disappointing & unlikely to see Gysberts or sadly, Grimes again this year.
-
Agreed. Although he is correct Even considering how bad Brisbane have been, a win for us in any fashion would be as important as our win against Sydney. Any away win would be another step forward, a good start like a couple of days ago is paramount.
-
Don't really see a problem with it.
-
Warnock has been outstanding for Casey. He would be a fair chance for a recall this week anyway with Fev & Brown but this just solidifies any doubt to have him included. I would keep Bail in over Maric, his early season form being an important player in our wins at that time see him stay and Maric out for Warnock possibly. Junior and Trengove, Moloney? The trip away could see Junior play another at Casey. Trengove - I just don't see the point of this kid playing at Casey, he has had two weeks off and should be fresh. Moloney should be right to go. I think Jones could find himself under pressure possibly. Col Sylvia was scintillating in the middle and is extra cover there. Between Jordie and Nath, I like Jordie. I would be playing Trengove ahead of Jones. Moloney as inclusion would possibly see Bail or Wonna under pressure. If they bring Moloney straight back. Decisions, decisions. Anyone that goes out will be unlucky.
-
What do they mean by even terms? Is this reference to our number of possible inclusions? Grimes, Trengove, Moloney, Junior? Strange indeed.
-
You mean thank McMahon! Yes, even the Pies have both Pendlebury and Thomas because they tanked the year after making 2 grand finals in a row. Is that not worse than a bottom side? Prepare for this jealousy. Make sure to point out our shrewd trading, Grimes for Johnstone, Gysberts for McLean. Liam Jurrah, Aaron Davey, Jordie McKenzie as rookies. Jamie Bennell at pick 35 - as his currency rises & it will, be sure to point out he was a 3rd rounder at pick 35. Luke Tapscott will be a steal at pick 18. Colin Garland - with Chip Frawley could become the best defensive pair in the league at pick 46. Let everyone just focus on the early ones but it will take a bit more than Skull, Trengove & Watts to take us to glory. Fact is we got Trengove as extra and that's it.
-
I agree Tapscott looks great and looking forward to seeing him. Maric was ok on Sunday. Certainly showed a bit and adds a bit of depth. Maric, Bail & Bartram are 3 that really helped that result on Sunday. Just more good signs IMO
