I missed this yesterday after being laid up: Does anyone have a link to this story below, from yesterdays Age? The Age Dees determined to get better By Michael Gleeson MELBOURNE captain James McDonald and veteran Brad Miller, who were cut by the club last week, met the board this week and spelt out concerns in the football department. They are concerned that while the club is making big advances off the field in wiping out debt and on the field in regenerating its list, its football department is still not functioning as well as it might. McDonald and Miller raised issues over player welfare, particularly support for the club's younger players.

Very good, it would make for an interesting doco seeing the big Rough dancing shirtless in front of a camera!

E, (not a great alias for this discussion! ) I agree with you about the ability to bounce back or recover, maybe not the next day if it is being done right, but near enough. I thought you were suggesting that it was an aid in performance which I could not agree with.

Guy McKenna was one that doubled in size when we saw him in 92. There were rumors of him jumping fences at Subi way back then, a well worn path over the fence that one.

I would suggest that people here that think they know from personal experience, probably do, that's why it is personal experience. The more diluted that it is from its pure form, the more danger there can be. If he was taking 'dirty' drugs, it would have affected his output even further, not improved it. But I would suggest, with some little knowledge the cash and resources at his disposal that he would have been taking 'stuff' in it's purest form more often than not. It certainly would have made a significant difference, he would have partied for longer, but on the football field? Not a chance in hell.

Wrong, just simply wrong. Go have a line of anything, stay up for 3 days straight and see how you go in any physical, running pursuit. The flag, brownlow is not tainted in anyway and is ridiculous by people to suggest as much. This accusation comes from people that have never been near drugs and have no qualifications to accuse as such. How is it tainted exactly, outside of your perceived advantage of taking cocaine to improve performance? It is not tainted by Ben Cousins drug use in anyway. Are any other flag winners that have convicted players, alcoholics etc etc tainted? Of course not, neither are WCE & Cousins achievements.

Stand corrected B) You have to admit that being out of Debt and the work done there has to be counted for as a positive? The debt demolition, coupled with moving into state of the art training facilities will actually assist us in improving the on field.
-
Mate, you started the poll.
-
Why does it even bear relevance and need to be bought up in any case? Because you wanted to give your argument more strength by loosely comparing Cousin's issues with Newtons? You may not be exactly comparing offences, but you are certainly comparing them as 'troubled individuals'. Far too easy to do that.

It is merely my opinion, but I would suggest 7 have gained more than enough out of this already and that they promoted this to suit there own agenda. Fair enough too, they have a television station to run and ratings are the game. The doco was made for Ben's interests, I don't think he ever sat back and thought "this will be a good lesson that I can share", channel 7 decided to go down that path in the promotion. Due to this, I would agree with you Rhino that Ben's chances of being welcomed into the media is seriously compromised. More now because of the doco.

The Matthew Newton 'saga' has little relevance to Ben's. Totally separate issues that these two are going through and to try and 'label' them as identical in any fashion is proof of how little is known about drugs and addiction.

Don't agree that he would be anymore versatile than Scully or Trengove & potentially Blease, Gysberts, Tapscott, Grimes to name a few young potential mids. McKenzie picks himself for other reasons. I agree a fit Salopek could have more versatility than Moloney/Jones, but with others such as Sylvia, Davey, Bennell, Bail as other mid types I would suggest that we have around the 12 that Schwab would be looking for. Don't think there is a need for us to go shopping around this year.
-
So, you denigrate so called 'bitter' Melbourne supporters and then totally contradict yourself by saying we should have lost to Carlton, to gain Kreuzer?
-
Keen to know more.
-
Is Jamie Bennell eligible? Or is he allowed to play by virtue of Melbourne still playing this week?
-
A good performance by PJ this week will see him hold a spot I feel. A battle between Newton & PJ IMO, PJ would have to be in front but a nice finish will cement that. Agree that best available is the way to go, but considering our supposed strength in majority of other area's (which I believe is there), it would not be difficult to imagine us erring on the side of a KP player in this coming draft.
-
Like that side. Warnock & Newton out along with Bail who might get a reprieve if Sylvia were to miss. Paul Johnson, a decent game by him might see him hold a spot on the list. It certainly wont be Newton so this could be PJ's last dance. Hansen is a loss for Nth.

Round 22 Enjoyed this season a lot. Hopefully cap it off with a win and see similar improvement in 2011. Go Dees!!
-
Agree 100%. There is no need for us to be looking for anything other than a big marking forward, should the opportunity arise. I would suggest that a player of this type is who we will target in the draft. Good chance that Paul Johnson will be the final delisting. Spencer is a definite promotion if that is the case, IMO a decent chance anway, we only have Fitpatrick & Gawn in reserve if Johnson is not there.

Been some overrated premiership players, Cameron Mooney with 3 flags? Come on! Probably a bit harsh, but gee I just don't rate Cameron Mooney at all
-
So when do we actually find out the winner for mark of the week?
-
No more common in WA than anywhere else That's because only half of it has aired, he still uses in the 2nd half before becoming clean. So I would imagine he was a fair way away from learning anything. Still would be learning.

And they should know ordinary footballers when they see one!
