The Under 19s premiership 50 years ago today
Bobby McKenzie replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure about year but it was one of 55,56 or 57. Those were the days when reserves games were played as curtain raisers to the seniors. In this reserves game GF Melbourne player Rickard ? had a set shot after the final siren from a long way out ( no 50 metres arcs then) with the demons behind by under a goal. He nailed it to win the flag and it was a wonderful warm up for our seniors premiership win later that day. Go demons!!!!! -
DID his knee. Sorry mate, we teachers cannot help ourselves.

Know the feeling.. After following Melbourne faithfully for nearly 70 years, I have had strangers coming up to me after looking at my very old Melbourne FC number plates and say "Getting on the Bandwagon mate?" Get real guys. -

The following note was sent to my Demon barracking daughter today from a friend all the way from Dublin. Sorry I couldn't work out how to attach it to the photo. I'm fairly computer illiterate I'm afraid. To my Melbourne Demon friends, how awesome is this? Someone drove up to Jim Stynes headstone in the Dublin hills to give him a scarf for the week ahead. He is not forgotten. He was such a great man.Go the Dees!- 6 replies

I don't know about a RAPID rise. The kid has been great since GAME ONE of his star studded career. A true tough and classy champion. A perfect blend. What a will to win he has. Go Demons!!!

You can add Bob McKenzie senior to your imposing list Wrecker.

My car plates read 57 MFC. Chose that number to represent our hat trick of premierships 55,56 and 57. Lets hope it signals our 2021 Premiership after 57 barren years.

Jonesy, thank you for your loyalty, guts, skills, leadership over a long period of time. How easily you could have gone to the top teams and enjoyed premierships. But you didn't and remained a Demon warrior for life. A true legend of our club. Did the number 2 great honours along with Robbie Flower, Steven Tingay and Bob McKenzie snr. A famous number indeed.

No go Im afraid. Received some bar codes but left my run a bit too late. Thanks for your interest.

As a long standing forum member and OLD( 84) Demon supporter since 1948, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to let me have their membership number so that my daughter could take me to the Grand final. As a Melbourne member I could get a ticket but need help to get there. A big ask I know.

Thanks to chronic injuries. Come off it Joe, you knocked him even when he had good games.
-
How so Joe?

Yeah The 1928 finals draw was very exciting. I nearly fell off my penny farthing bike listening to it on my crystal set!
-
Dom was a very talented hard working Demon. Very unfairly criticised by Joe boy constantly. His whipping boy. Good luck for your future Dom.

Point of order here to the quiz master. Question: How many draws in Melbourne finals matches? The answer provided was ONE v Collingwood in 1928. This is true BUT the correct answer to the question is TWO. 1928 AND 1948 GF draw v Essendon. Sorry to the Quiz writer. Cheers.

Not POSSIBLY most improved, has to be THE most improved. He is fast becoming a favourite of mine. A real demon goer thats for sure. Love his running, fitness, tackling and team man. I am sure he is highly rated by his peers. Well done Alex.
-
So proud of this young team. Here we were, 5 goals up and 3 minutes to go still tackling so so strongly, crashing packs and giving Lions nothing. Not giving them a sniff. This is a team we should all be proud. Well done to a champion TEAM!

Bobby McKenzie replied to Wilson7's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have seen the great Robbie flower at his best and I truly believe that Clarry is at least Robbie's equal. They were and are absolute footballing wizards. And then of course there was another bloke by the name of Ronald Dale Barassi. Legends all three. -
You just missed on having me as your teacher by 30 plus years. Great school Chelt.
