Your Top 5 Demons Players of All Time
Bobby McKenzie replied to Craig Drinker's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mighty hard to limit myself to just 5 having watched the demons at their peak in the fifties. I have seen so many absolute champions. Overall 1. Ron Barassi 2. Robbie Flower 3. Clayton Oliver 4. Don Williams 5. Max Gawn Plus another 50 who could be on this list. Petracca, Stuart Spencer, Laurie Mithen etc etc etc. -

Fair enough mate. I did think you meant his overall play. Sorry. -

Lacks consistency? Never plays a bad game. A true champion. Already a most damaging player in AFL and has been for years. -

ANB was back to his 2021 form. Great news! He is so important to us. -
POSTGAME: Practice Match vs Richmond
Bobby McKenzie replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
According to the timeline on my phone app 'Footyinfo' (which is an excellent app by the way) Gawn kicked his goals at 8.16 in the first quarter and at 18.02 and 24.08 in the second Q. -
He did pick up quite a few in the GF though. Would have bumped up his average!

Happy Birthday Ron Barassi - 87 today
Bobby McKenzie replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
As I mentioned yesterday imo Barassi would be a composite of Petracca and Oliver. Fierce determination, never say die attitude. 'Melbourne through and through' to quote the famed Norm Smith. -

Magnificent competitor never beaten. My football idol growing up. Could compete with the talls and moments later keeping up with the rovers. Those long arms! Get tackled by Ron you knew about it. I guess today a combination of Petracca and Oliver would sum up RDB. I'm sure Ron would be so impressed by these two current, absolute champions. Of course Robbie Flower would have to be in the same company with these players. My top 4 Demons of all time. And I saw many over the years. Happy birthday Ronnie. -
Hoping MFC include at least a premiership sticker to celebrate girls great victory. Shouldn't be too hard.

Which Demon is the most likely to have a breakout year in 2023?
Bobby McKenzie replied to Chelly's topic in Melbourne Demons
I too hope that Schacke will show the ability he must have to go as pick number 2 in the draft. Would be a true bonus. -
Which Demon is the most likely to have a breakout year in 2023?
Bobby McKenzie replied to Chelly's topic in Melbourne Demons
My tip for breakout is our pick number 13 in the form of Kozzie. Just needs to develop consistency, but that will come I'm sure. Jake Bowey will show his followers and the selectors just how good he is.Should never have been dropped last season. Far too good to play VFL. -
My favourite is 'They can't take that away from me', with good old 'blue eyes' Frank Sinatra. I think of this song whenever I look at our 2021 Premiership pennant and photo. Older posters will remember when the hits of the day had a meaning, audible lyrics and above all else, melody. Sad to say todays songs don't have that. Just a lot of noise with crash, crash banging with no tune. Guess we have run out of tunes and themes. Classical music is exactly the same. Rave over! But they can't take that(the premiership) away from me or you, my fellow demon supporters. Bring on 2023,24,25,26,27......

Welcome to Demonland Josh Schache
Bobby McKenzie replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gee, give the guy a chance. Number 2 draft pick and good enough to be selected in a team playing in an AFL grand final. Lets see how he goes. Loved Sam W but he could be an upgrade on Sam. You don't get picked number 2 in the draft for nothing. Kicking style for goal very much like Bayley F. -
Hunter is a really good get. His kicking is great which is just what we need delivering the ball to our forwards. BUT, no more bouncing the ball near the boundary and seeing it rolling out of bounds. Could be a great foil for Ed on the other wing.

After watching, like many others, the 2021 GF yet again I decided to compare other finals series since 1990 when the VFL was renamed AFL. In the 2021 finals, our mighty Demons team had a winning average of 63 points.and was only surpassed by two teams over a period of thirty two years. Essendon in 2000 had a winning average margin of 73 points, Geelong in 2007 had a winning average of 76 points. Pretty impressive I reckon and something to be proud of. Geelong, in this years finals had a winning average of 52 points by comparison. With a team not crippled by injuries I reckon we could have taken the cats but we will never know. Wasn't buddy pathetic? Next year, we will rebound if we can get those injuries sorted. Looking at the replay and the team photo, I reckon a small, tough and talented red head should have been in our finals team. Go Jake in 2023.

Mitch was a great club man and used to give a few of our stars the run round at training.eg Jake Lever. All the best and so glad you finished your career with a premiership. Maybe you could play a few games with the Old Mentonians and enjoy yourself next season..

I hope South Melbourne will win and win well. Want to see Scotts face if this happens.

If you want to win a Brownlow don't be a defender. All Australian Team Defenders votes in 2022 Tom Stewart 6 Steven May 0 Brayden Maynard 0 Jack Sinclair 9 Sam Taylor 1 Adam Saad 3 Key position players FB( May) and CHB ( Taylor) just 1 vote in total. Unbelievable!
-
1. Melbourne 94 votes 2. Geelong 92 3. Carlton 89 =4. Sydney/ Fremantle 83 =6. Gold Coast / Western Bulldogs 75 =8. Brisbane /Port 74 10. Richmond 73 11. St Kilda 72 12. Collingwood 62 =13. GWS / Adelaide 50 15. Essendon 46 16. Hawthorn 45 17. North Melbourne 31 18. West Coast 15 Collingwood's low total of just 62 is surprising and West Coast's miserable 15 must be some sort of record.

Steven May with zero votes amazed me. He had some ripper games. Oh, I forgot ,he's a defender!
