  1. Didn't play in the 88 GF! Did he club him at some point during the '87 PF? There are a couple of small changes I'd make on second thoughts but he only played 17 games so can't justify having him much higher than mid-table. @whatwhat say what - I was a Collins fan, and thought it was BS that he didn't get another go after leaving us, but he did really only play half a really good season for us.
  2. As promised on the podcast here are my rankings of imported players since 1980. The criteria is plucked from thin air. Hopefully I haven't missed anyone. Probably a bit of recency bias at the top but that's what happens when most of the last 40 years have been a disaster. Jeff White Brian Wilson Darren Bennett Brent Moloney Anthony Ingerson Steven May* Clint Bizzell Ed Langdon* Jake Lever* Peter Moore Shane Zantuck Bernie Vince Michael Hibberd* Marcus Seecamp Peter Rohde Brent Crosswell Shaun Smith Jake Melksham* Jeff Garlett Kelvin Templeton Daniel Cross Jordan Lewis Peter Vardy Ben Holland Dom Tyson Jamie Shanahan Sam Frost Paul Johnson Adam Tomlinson* Jeff Hilton Cameron Clayton Steven Clark Byron Pickett David Flintoff Paul Bryce Chris Heffernan Mitch Clark Phil Read Matthew Collins Chris Dawes Tomas Bugg Heritier Lumumba Dean Irving Craig Ellis Michael Pickering Alastair Clarkson Paul Payne Doug Koop Bill Nettlefold Shannon Byrnes James Sellar Greg Doyle Phil Carman Scott Chisholm Craig Turley Dean Chiron Andy Goodwin Ben Kennedy Ben Newton Rod Owen Phil Pinnell Nigel Kol Rodney Wright Harley Bennell Viv Michie Robert Pyman Shannon Motlop Braydon Preuss Craig Nettelbeck Corey Wagner Xavier Tanner James Cook Vin Catoggio Ross Funcke Mitch Brown* Aidan Riley Michael Young Ben Brown* David Rodan Les Parish Darryl Cox David Grant Adrian Campbell Steven Pitt John Meesen Stuart Cameron Gary Moorcroft Nick Carter Nick Pesch Trevor Spencer Kade Kolodjashnij Wayne Henwood Peter Kiel Phil Egan Tom Gillies
  3. Don't have an image of '88, but here's the unused 2000 poster. More here.
  4. Thank you! For anybody who's keen the audio is here. Nice to be on SEN for the first time not answering a quiz or whinging on the talkback line.
  5. I'm betting heavily on some sort of zones at stoppages. Will be putrid.
  6. More Jason Bennett please. Criminally underused by Seven until the last few weeks.
  7. I can't blame the commentators because they just read whatever fun fact is put in front of them, but a bit of a [censored]-up by the research department.
  8. What about when their researcher stuffed up and thought Wayne Reid was a player as well as an ex-president? Assuming they mixed him up with Wayne Gordon. Not the worst thing Channel 7 has ever done but still a shambolic attempt at a tribute. But for the rest of last night, any commentary box without BT is an improvement. I wouldn't pick McLachlan or Brayshaw at the top of the commentator draft but Taylor is such a buffoon that he brings everyone down with him.
  9. I'm sure he'd give a good account of himself as required, but 43 goals in 54 games suggests he's not going to be the difference. (Yes, I know he played in defence for a bit. Point stands).
  10. Hello all, apologies for dragging this thread up for another plug, but the book is scheduled to be in bookstores tomorrow. Make a scene if yours doesn't carry it. I spoke to Radio TAB about it this morning. Fortunately they didn't ask for my views on the Globe Derby quaddie.
  11. Days ending in y have been a bad luck charm for us most years. Knowing who any of the umpires are other than the celebrities like Razor Ray is weird.

When McDonald took that shot the wind was blowing right across the ground (and immediately into my face), I wonder if that played into it after a couple of set shot misses in recent weeks.
  13. Weid has kicked six in his last 10 starts. I desperately want him to become a key player but he went missing towards the end of last year (after quite a few good games) and has never been found.
  14. I wouldn't get excited about him leaving, everything he did was under instruction of the league, they'll just hire somebody else to be the public face of ineffectual stuffing around with the rules and the circle will continue.
  15. I can take it or leave it, but 6-6-6 does create opportunities out of the middle. The problem is that other than the four bounces to start the quarter, somebody's got to kick a goal to make it a factor. Not much point if the ball is being kicked from one end to the other for 20 minutes without a goal.
  16. I don't understand why people treat Brown like Juice Newton. He kicks five goals in two games, has one ordinary outing and gets written off. Can we try and get the guy who's won the Coleman and kicked 10 in a game going first before opening the last resort envelope?
  17. It's an even enough season that there's opportunities if we get going again. Better than 2004 style hitting the top of the ladder after Round 18 then not winning another game.
  18. There was some NQR stuff said after the Adelaide game, but this lot are a different breed. It's more like an extremist political party than a footy team to some of them.

SAW also have something for people who want to see Jack Watts present the cup

Why didn't he play the Prelim then? If we're in the fortunate position to be playing for a flag there's no place for sentiment. Until it's won, then force-feed me sentiment until it causes a seizure.

Gifting somebody a game in a Grand Final when you haven't won one in 60 years is unbelievably high risk, but I'd be into the idea of him presenting the cup. Bit weird to have a serving player do it but far more relevance to this era than Barassi, Lyon and even Neitz.
  22. Brown was very good against Sydney, kicked goals, set one up for McDonald with a delightful block. I don't understand why people want to write him off based on one average game against Carlton in conditions that didn't suit him. He went back to the VFL and had a rubbish game but is a proven commodity. If we bring him back and it doesn't work over a couple of weeks either go with one less tall, pick Mitch or reinvestigate Weid after a few reserves games, but whatever he does it will be better than what we got yesterday. Weid's confidence is shot, which is no good for him but we're trying to consolidate a top four spot we can't keep waiting for him.
  23. Here's the current Harry Graham profile http://demonwiki.org/Harry+Graham If you want to be like Colin Carter and claim the VFA you could say he played in losses for us in his first stint (1892/1894) before concentrating on cricket. Interesting that his VFL career was so short because he went off looking for gold halfway through the season.
  24. We desperately need a full forward, and even though she did nada this season if there's no other options available I'd be willing to take the chance.
  25. I appreciate his effort but for once we're trying to win a flag here, can't just wait all year for his game to click. Brown was rusty against North but still kicked goals, good against the Swans, then ordinary against Carlton in conditions that didn't suit him. I'm not ruling out switching back later if Brown doesn't work but unless there's some deeper tactical element to it that my pleb brain can't fathom I want to give the proven performer a chance.
