  1. Unless it's a particularly violent battering I'll be upset for about four hours then get on with life. This season is an the biggest pre-season ever.
  2. He makes some reasonable points but board challenges are the biggest empty threat in footy.
  3. No interest in what other clubs do, the way we play it's stupid. Alternatively they could change the way we play but I bet that doesn't happen.
  4. The lack of a second tall target is suicidal. Weideman, Brown, Jackson, Tomlinson (?) might not be the answer but you've got to give somebody a go, the idea that you're going to kick long onto the head of Fritsch and Hunt is insanity.
  5. Get back to me when we're a few years down the track from North's pick. More than anyone we should know that a pick means nothing unless you get the right player.

I would not afford them the courtesy of a bag

Throw the Channel 7 commentary team into the sea. Won't do anything for the quality of the game but it will help my ears.
  8. Not enough storming towards the 50 and kicking it like he's got a wooden leg.

I spoke to an ex-player who lent his scrapbook from 1964 to the club and they lost it ?
  10. Are we still giving our first pick to North? No doubt they'll find somebody fantastic with it even if there's not one Under 18 game played.
  11. Didn't say anything bad about us so a good bloke in my book ?
  12. The energy boost obviously wore off after half an hour
  13. There will be a flag, and because we won't win it we can hang [censored] on whoever does.

We paid over the top for him but it was a worthwhile gamble. Hopefully contract money front-ended so it's less of an issue when we're paying megabucks for Oliver, Petracca etc... later. Rotten timing for him to do his knee when he'd just played his first A-grade game for us... against the Crows.
  15. Don't care what Port do generally, but if it annoys Eddie I'm in. They should also bring in their real theme song (same tune as Sydney) instead of the rubbish modern tune.
  16. It was all good when we didn't let Carlton get their hands on the ball. Once they did it was hot knife through butter stuff. Good teams will wallop us if we play like that.
  17. Obviously Joel Smith is a defender again but I thought he looked good as a forward. No doubt will be thrown there ASAP if we're kicking 6.12.48 every week.
  18. I reckon 98 an average team that played out of its skin (apart from those two thrashings in the middle of the year). By 2000 you had Bruce, Green, Powell, Robertson, and older Woewodin and Farmer. '98 is still my favourite season thanks to repeat viewings of Hotter Than Hell but for mine 2000 a better side.
  19. No, but I'd pay $32 to put embarassing photos of my friends on them.
  20. People weren't happy in the Electrifying 80s either. Whinging about the quality of footy is the second biggest national sport.

Jeff Farmer. Though we did get Clint Bizzell out of that in a roundabout, pick swapping way, so it wasn't a total bust.
  22. Hi all, coincidentally am currently putting together a book about the 1964 season for publication early next year. Would be interested in hearing the memories from people who were at the Grand Final (and the other key moments like Glenferrie Oval). Feel free to PM me or email [email protected].
  23. This is like saying the cyclone does you a favour by knocking your house down so you can build a better one.
  24. This was well put together but as mentioned above I'd be interested in getting an understanding of why they played so badly. Was part of it that Geelong didn't pull up like many teams do when a major thrashing is brewing. It was the last season where a variety of teams were savagely beaten (even we won three games by over 80 points) and the Cats did beat Gold Coast by 150 points the next week (fair fortnight) so I wonder if what would have been a 20 goal loss under normal circumstances exploded because teams were in a percentage race. Or were we so bad that once they got to half time 110 points up they thought they could go for something special without extending themselves. Also: - Did Bailey really pay for the team to stay overnight in Geelong because the club wouldn't pay as was rumoured at the time? - Why did Moloney play when he was so sick that he went around like a zombie for the first half having zero touches? I know they're not going to make it a four hour doco but these are things I'd be interested in. - I'd like to hear more about the Schwab squib. It's one thing to say you can't sack a CEO and coach at the same time but why? We'd just lost a game by 31 goals, I don't think anyone was going to think we were any more of a shambles if a board member took over as interim CEO for a few weeks. It was certainly a memorable afternoon, right down to going to a movie afterwards and yelling at some hipster doofus behind me for talking too loudly.

Please, the other two Mortons. What a dynasty that could have been.
