  1. I reckon they were the polar opposite. Tom was fine at defending but his kicking was ropey, Oscar is alright at kicking (albeit usually no more than about 15 minutes) but gets killed against an opponent.
  2. He must have smelt desperation a million miles away. Three years always ridiculous - if he's still good enough in two the Cats will give him a third.
  3. Next we'll be getting Tony Sheahan rumours
  4. Surely not going to go interstate again when he's got a contract. Different if Freo was ready to turf him and he had no other option. Let's be really nice to him until he comes out of contract and then snatch him on the cheap if he's looking good.
  5. That's the sort of deal that has got them where they are today - financially clinging on by a thread. $1.3 billion for exclusive rights to Freo vs Gold Coast at 4.40 on a Sunday, good thinking.
  6. Doesn't matter what anybody except Channel 7 want. They own the league now. I suspect they don't want any less games, so either it stays the same or teams play each other more often. Still, I look forward to hearing more from fans of clubs who can be 99.9% sure their side will never fold, merge or relocate.
  7. 1. Petracca against GWS 2. Petracca against North 3. The field
  8. Any big bastard forwards who can take a mark? We're not going to find Lance Franklin Mk. 2 but somebody who can take the heat off Weideman would be good.
  9. Are they running through the streets with it like the Olympic Torch?
  10. Did I suggest playing him in front of anyone? You're making the logic up.
  11. I reckon he's underrated. Which is easy when nobody rates him. You've got to have depth. He's not going to turn into Dustin Martin anytime soon but is handy enough. You can massacre the fringe players but who's going to replace them? If he reckons he can get a better run somewhere else then let him go, otherwise at least he's got a few years of experience on a random kid.
  12. The ex-player scandals are becoming more pissweak by the day. By Friday it's Josh Wagner crossing the road against the red man.
  13. Good to see Meg Morris from Prisoner before she was famous.
  14. Like when Port played Trengove, Watts, Barry and Toumpas and wondered why they were no good.
  15. Agree that his tackling is good, but he's hardly a chase-down player. Like vandenBerg, a great tackler if somebody runs right at him. Still reckon he's shown enough to hang around as a depth player.
  16. Doesn't alright when he gets the ball. Doesn't get enough of it.
  17. In the last 20 years how many contested club elections have there been across the league apart from Szondy vs Gutnick? The ratio of threatened contested elections to actual ones is about 1:300. First thing the incumbents do is point out a vote will cost $100k and that's usually the end of it. Unless you have the popular support to push the incumbent off without a fight a'la Stynes and Gardner.
  18. #1 scapegoat status confirmed when you get blamed without playing
  19. He did try and play Oscar down there. Which was option Z.
  20. Hard to do anything when four defenders go to you the moment the ball comes off the boot. They knew exactly what we were going to do forward and stitched it up perfectly. He had a bad game but could do with some help.
  21. Was thinking that. Or the Glasshouse? Surely that was still going in 96? Would have had lots of mid-size venues if we'd got the 96 Olympics!
  22. Interesting that in the last episode it's suggested that the reason they held the meeting at Dallas Brookes Hall was because the phone survey suggested that many people would turn up, when Ridley's book says it was because the Tennis Centre was booked for the Dalai Lama. I always thought that was a suss reason, surely there was a venue somewhere between the two sizes available. The next big thing for this story is when somebody finds the full tapes of both meetings. We've seen the highlights enough, even if it's just people yelling I want to see the whole thing.
  23. I reckon we've had more memorable wins than losses in the same time. Usually because they drive your expectations down before pulling off a surprise.
