  1. Was a good win in the end. A bit of a scare in the 3rd quarter Still lots of room for improvement. More accurate goal kicking and being able to lockdown dangerous small forwards like Charlie Cameron needs to be rectified. Players need to focus and "reset" for the next game against either the Geelong Cats or the GWS Giants. A week off will do the players good too. Clayton Oliver would be sore from the knee in the back he got. Jack Viney would be sore too from getting flipped over and landing on his backside. Luke Jackson needs his two front teeth fixed. Christian Salem and Steven May often play sore too. So there would probably be lots of other sore bodies and niggles that will need resting. Lots of ice baths this week I reckon! Anyway, the Demons players need to not get too far ahead of themselves and drink their own bath water. Just focus on the Preliminary Final. Remember we still haven't achieved anything yet. Nevertheless, I dare to dream....
  2. It definitely is quite pleasing and makes me feel some pride as a Melbourne Demons supporter. We certainly have suffered over the years. All these All Australians and individual awards. They certainly are great! However, I hope the Demons players have their minds set on achieving bigger things than just mere individual accolades. I have been a member since 1998 and I remember when I was a bit younger how excited I was in 1998 and 2000. Does anybody remember Demon Radio in those days? I used to love listening to it! Anyway, this time it feels different. This is the best I have ever seen the MFC play as an entire team! I am just trying not to get too ahead of myself. I wanna see the Demons win a Premiership so I can celebrate with with my Dad and the rest of my family. I will probably cry tears of joy once the final siren sounds. But we all need to hold our horses! We still have a long way to go! We have a very formidable opponent in the Brisbane Lions this weekend and that needs to be our focus and the total focus of all the Demons players and coaching staff. I wanna allow myself to dream though....but I have been disappointed so many times before that it's hard to allow myself to do that for very long. It must be the MFCSS that I have developed over the many years. Could this be the year we break the drought of a Premiership flag that has been going for 57 years? I honestly don't know yet.... we won't know until the end of September. Nevertheless, I have high hopes and this song by Panic! At The Disco which is aptly titled "High Hopes" definitely helps me dare to dream that the Demons are in with a chance! Fingers crossed! GO DEMONS!!!
  3. I agree with your comments. Car Park E would be not only stupid but hinder us severely. That area is far too small! It needs to be Car Park F or the Empty Land. Or even better both Car Park F and the Empy Land! That would be the best option. Not only do we need a large space of land to build upon next to Gosch's Paddock but room for future development. The only possible way Car Park E could possibly work is if Collingwood moved out of the Holden Centre and went back to Victoria Park where they belong! Then itcould be plausible. We would also need to enlarge Olympic Park. Anyway, I don't see that happening. Besides, would we really want to move into the Holden Centre? They are getting pretty cramped in there themselves apparently with both the AFL and AFLW teams and the Magpies netball team too. Having a proper sized home base and training facility for the Melbourne Football Club must be done right! There cannot be any compromises!
  4. I think it is a toss up between Nathan Jones (the sentimental favourite) or Michael Hibberd as the medical substitutes for the Demons against the Lions. Mark my words....this will be a tough and hard game! The Lions should not be underestimated. In another news article the Lions said they have become "hardened" after recent finals losses. This game will be no easy task for the Demons! If Mitch Robinson goes berserk against us and starts belting our players then we need to get Nathan Jones onto the ground as the medical substitute to deal with him. Two tough old bulls going head-to-head! Nathan Jones will also be fired up to prove a point with this being only his 3rd chance to play finals. Another concern is Charlie Cameron who is a brilliant forward pocket player who reminds me a lot of our very own Jeff "The Wizard" Farmer. We need to keep a close tag on him. This is where I think Michael Hibberd may be a good option as the medical substitute too. Anyway, I am sure the MFC coaching staff are currently having these debates about who should be the medical substitute against the Lions.
  5. I remember when Shane Woewodin won the Brownlow as a Demons player back in 2000. It was definitely a great honour and exciting to watch at the time. However, I am sure Shane would of given up that Brownlow in a heart beat for a Premiership medallion. Don't get me wrong! Brownlows are nice to win and a Demons player hasn't won a Brownlow since Shane did in 2000. However, I am sure Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca and Max Gawn are more focused on trying to break our 57 year Premiership drought! We definitely have bigger fish to fry in 2021! I also think either Marcus Bontempelli or Ollie Wines will probably win the 2021 Brownlow anyways. 2021 Premiership medallions are what the Demons need to be aiming for!
  6. I think Patrick Naish, son of former Richmond player Chris Naish, would be a very handy pick up for the Demons. He could play as a wingman and he apparently has excellent disposal. He is only 22 years old and has been starved of opportunities at the Tigers. He played in Richmond's VFL Premiership side in 2019. This year in the VFL Patrick also averaged 29 disposals and a goal a game. I think those numbers are impressive. He was an under 18 All Australian in 2017. However, Richmond has delisted him bizarrely. I think he could be an excellent addition to our side and would definitely be hungry for senior games and for Premiership success at the Demons.
  7. I would love to see Nathan Jones get the chance (if he earns it) to be the medical sub if we are fortunate enough to make the Grand Final. However, now that he has reached 300 games (which I am very glad he did!) we cannot risk playing someone just for sentimental reasons. Yes, I realise I have changed my tune, but trying to win a Premiership needs to be the main focus! the team is bigger than any individual! Let's say we DO hypothetically make the AFL Grand Final, and we win, I doubt they will get Ron Barassi over to present the Premiership cup due to COVID-19 restrictions. That leaves the options of Jeff Farmer (if he is in WA?), Shane Woewodin or Nathan Jones (if he travels over with the MFC team squad) to present the Premiership cup. Hypothetically, if the Melbourne Demons are lucky enough to win there will be a lot of crying tears of joy. Especially from me! Anyway, no point getting too ahead of ourselves. We need to take it one game at at a time! We also need to win at least 3 more games and finals are completely different in intensity and toughness compared to regular home and away matches. The match against the Brisbane Lions this week will be a huge challenge and that needs to be the priority for the time being!
  8. I definitely love a good Demon logo! Sadly, I agree, the nose on the Demon looks terrible!
  9. I just wanted to say what I loved most about post match with the great win against Geelong in Geelong (a very difficult challenge!) was the singing of the Club song of "It's a Grand Old Flag" with Mark "Choco" Williams involved. Did anyone else see that? He really song our song with great gusto! It was absolutely fantastic! The players love Mark "Choco" Williams and having him at the Club has been fantastic for the players, coaches and supporters alike! I am going to say that Mark "Choco" Williams is the recruit of the year for the Melbourne Demons! He may be an eccentric old fella but he loves football and is an incredible football person. Let's hope the Demons can keep him at the Club for many more years!
  10. Have been pleased with what I have seen of the new draftee Jake "Bluey" Bowey from the Sandringham Dragons. I think his Father played a few games for the Saints? Jake is clean with the ball and his handballing and kicking has been very good so far. He got caught holding the ball against the Eagles due to the speed of the game but he will learn and adjust to that. So far, he looks an exciting prospect and I am hopeful he can claim a NAB Rising Star nomination if he continues to provide standout performances.
  11. Was very much relieved to win! The last few minutes stressed me out like crazy! We rarely win against the Eagles in Perth so I was quite pleased we got over the line. These types of wins are crucial and puts us back on top of the ladder. I definitely feel the stop in play due to the thunder and lighting hindered our momentum with a 32 point advantage. Anyway, at least we won and we can now refresh, reset and refocus on playing Adelaide at the MCG next week. We need to get revenge against the Crows for beating us by 1 point earlier in the season! Go Demons!!!
  12. I am of the belief that overall our tendencies to revert into "red mist" mode haven't been too bad this year. We are currently on the top of the ladder after all. However, Premierships are not won in July! Obviously, we did fall into bad habits against the Hawks due to the amount of pressure their players were applying. Particularly when you look at the tackle count comparison. The most guilty seem to be Jack Viney and Clayton Oliver from what I noticed last weekend. But other Demons players do it as well. Hopefully this "red mist" matter is a focus, as well as goal-kicking practice, throughout training this week in preparation for our game on Saturday night against the Bulldogs. It should be a cracking game this coming Saturday night...shame there won't be any crowd at the MCG to see it!
  13. It didn't bother me too much the bouncing of the ball and throw ins last night against Hawthorn. What did annoy me was that inexplicable 50 metre penalty against Max Gawn and a lot of non-decisions of holding the ball. Overall, I don't like to waste time complaining about the umpiring. Our tackling, pressuring and intensity around the ball was simply not up to standard last night. The players should be treating the game like a loss as that is certainly what it feels like even if we did get 2 points because it was a draw. Lift your game Demons!
  14. This is definitely a project for Mark "Choco" Williams to teach Jack Viney how to kick properly. My view is if you can't kick it then you handball it to someone who can like Christian Salem. I also feel Jack plays better in a negating role as a tagger. Let him tackle and harass the top inside midfielder of the opposing team each week. Jack Viney's heart and soul bleeds red and blue but I hope that he realises his weaknesses and focuses on improving them so he doesn't butcher the ball so much.
  15. You would think with Adem Yze and Mark "Choco" Williams as assistant coaches we would be dealing with this fundamental issue of goal kicking. As a mere supporter I admit to being ignorant of how much time an AFL player spends at the club. Nevertheless, with the amount of money an AFL player is getting paid I don't think an extra half an hour of goal kicking practice would hurt? Apparently Mark "Jacko" Jasckson used to kick a 100 balls at goal during training. While we all know he was a larrikin and a bit of a loose cannon he did average four goals a game. Luke "Dogga" Jackson and Angus Bradshaw definitely need to practice their set shots for goal more. As for not being able to afford extra coaches at the moment. That's fine, I understand that. But what about volunteers? Brad Green maybe? David Neitz? David Schwarz? Even Garry Lyon? Anyway, I am just throwing out a few ideas. Our goal kicking is woeful and must be improved.
  16. What a weird feeling! A draw! Better than a loss I guess....??‍♂️ Still very disappointing as we are on top of the ladder and the Hawks are 2nd last. A do agree that we are still definitely mentally weak. A top team needs a killer instinct. Dare I say being ruthless?! Anyway, I hope the coaches and players treat it like a loss because a performance like tonight is unacceptable.
  17. Dammit! I was looking forward to attending the game at the MCG between the Demons and the Hawks on Saturday afternoon! I had my ticket organised and everything! Was keen to see Big Benny Brown kick a few goals! Hopefully the game still goes ahead, and I can, at the very least, watch it on TV.
  18. I have met David Neitz and David Schwarz way back in the late 1990s. They were both great blokes. I have also met quite a few other Demons players at Family Days in the past too. Sadly, Garry Lyon has always been grumpy one though.
  19. I sorted out my ticket for the match this Saturday evening between the Demons and the Hawks. Was fortunately a lot easier than last time. The more Demons supporters who are able to attend this game at the MCG the better! Nevertheless, I will make sure I try and wear a beanie this time, my ears got quite cold sitting where I was outside near the goals in the previous game against the Giants. ?
  20. I would be surprised if there were any changes. Nevertheless, it would be nice if Jake Bowey was the medical substitute as I am sure he is getting close to earning a senior game for the Demons.
  21. Just relieved we had a win! Was a great game! Glad Ben Brown played. We have a much more potent forward line when he plays in the side.
  22. I don't usually like to start negative topics like this. But the question needs to be asked....are the Demons pretenders this year in 2021? I understand we are 12 wins and only 3 losses. A fantastic effort so far. We have definitely improved from last year in 2020. However, we need to win games we are expected to win against teams lower than us on the ladder. We haven't done anything at all yet. There are no new Premiership cups in our cabinet and the 1964 Premiership cup has probably collected a lot of dust on it. Losing to the Giants was absolutely not good enough. It reminds me of the shock loss to the Sydney Swans in 1994. Why Ben Brown wasn't selected to play as full forward for the Demons yesterday against the Giants was a bizarre decision. It was a huge selection error in my opinion. Anyway, it isn't just about the match yesterday. Our form the last few weeks has been poor and I hope we do something as a circuit breaker against Port Power who we play next week over in Adelaide on Thursday night. The match against Port Power is definitely season defining and after a disappointing loss against the Giants it is crucial that we bounce back. If the Demons don't then we are kidding ourselves if we think we are a chance to win the Premiership this year. I honestly hope I am wrong....it must be the MFCSS that has mentally scarred me over many years I guess? C'mon Demons! Bounce back against Port Power and prove to all the naysayers that we are NOT pretenders!
  23. I am incredibly angry about today! The Demons were very poor. The Giants were very slick and were hungrier and wanted to win more than us. We fumbled, made turnovers, made execution errors and it was absolutely not good enough. Why the hell we didn't play Big Benny Brown as Full Forward is beyond me. The weather today was a perfect cold day! At least we would have someone to kick to and who could kick straight! Anyway, a lot of soul-searching is required by the Demons players and the coaching staff if they are serious about finishing in the top 4.
  24. Thankfully, I got mine sorted. I have a ticket now for the game. For those who need assistance I suggest calling the MFC membership department on 1300 336 667.
  25. I don't usually like to complain. But the ticketing system really confused me today. I am a Redlegs member and I am supposed to have a reserved seat. I tried to call the Melbourne Football Club twice but couldn't get through and I have had difficulties with Ticketek and putting in a barcode. Anyway, I will try and call the Melbourne Football Club again tomorrow and rectify the issue.
