  2. G'day casey scorp How did you find this out? If I can ask? Does that mean its a "green light" for the MFC to have a training base at Casey Fields and arrange an alignment with the Casey Scorpions VFL side? If this is true this is fantastic news and means its full steam ahead for both the Demons and the Scorpions down at Casey Fields! I may just have to buy a house down in Cranbourne now....
  3. I hope it's a close game and that Brendan Fevola kicks 100 goals AND Lance 'Buddy' Franklin kicks a 100 too! Let the fans run on the field (twice even!). It's all part of the game. I wish David Neitz kicked 100 goals in a season so I could of ran onto the ground too! There will probably be nearly 70,000+ at this game.
  4. I'm very happy with the appointment of Cameron Schwab as the new CEO of the MFC! It hasn't been a good weekend after getting belted by Port Power over in Adelaide and not even reading a mention of it in the newspaper (mercy rule perhaps?). Cameron Schwab has done an excellent job at Fremantle and I believe he will help us here at the MFC. I really feel a sense of "unity" and purpose amongst the new MFC board and I believe we are slowly heading on the right track.
  5. Hello Demons Supporters! I'm just wondering, why doesn't anybody want to become the CEO at the MFC? In the last few days we have had Fox and Schwab pull out. The amount of twists and turns have had my head spinning! We have also had Brian Waldron the Melbourne Storm (and former St.Kilda) CEO say he was NOT interested. As well as the fact that the MFC board haven't given up on convincing Schwab yet and there is the other story that we seem to be chasing the COO at Hawthorn in John Dillon(?). Is the job a poisoned chalice? The way Paul MacNamee was treated was quite poor in someways, but at least we made the hard decisions early and we did pay Paul for the time he was with us. The MFC board have a new direction and unfortunately Paul wasn't on the same wavelength. If the Demons had been in a better condition both on-field and off-field I believe that Paul would have helped us enormously if we were heading towards a tilt at the AFL Premiership. Of course, we all know that the MFC is in a rebuilding phase and financially we are having major difficulties. Luckily these issues are being taken care of by Jimmy Stynes and the rest of the MFC board with the Debt Demolition initiative. I realise the MFC has gone through CEO's as rapidly as Richmond and St.Kilda have gone through coaches in the last few years. But I do believe that the new MFC board under Jimmy Stynes will have alot more stability. As much as the job of the CEO at the MFC sounds quite difficult and challenging that shouldn't mean that people should be scared off. Nevertheless, I have 100% faith in the MFC board appointing the best man for the job. Whoever becomes the next CEO of the MFC will be part of an exciting new future at the club and see us slowly but surely emerge as a powerhouse in the AFL.
  6. Apparently Jack Watts wore number #4 for Vic Metro? Perhaps he could be given that number? Either way...IF Jack Watts does nominate for the National Draft and IF we do pick him in the draft with our first pick he will probably get either number #9 or number #4....or may be even number 13# (Allen Jakovich style! )
  7. A change of culture at the club is what has been needed for a long time. In many ways the cause of all this happened in 1963(?) when Norm Smith called a particular umpire a "cheat" and was in return sued by the umpire. Instead of the MFC board giving Norm Smith their full support during this time he was told "you were on your own". Then at the end of 1964 instead of the MFC moving heaven and earth to keep Ron Barassi a Demon they let him go to Carlton for the "big bucks". So basically our champion player (somebody who embodied our heart and soul) was allowed to go and play for another club. To make matters worse the MFC sacked Norm Smith mid-season in 1965 and then reinstated him again about a week later. This already soured tense relations after the issue back in 1963 which I mentioned. From those particular points onwards thing were on the slide for this club... So basically the culture of the MFC was being rotted out as early as 1963. When the toffs and other big-wigs who were involved with the MFC become arrogant and selfish. After the treatment of Norm Smith it flowed onto the playing group. Of course there were many other factors which lead to the decline of the MFC including the change of recruitment zones etc. But our culture of "winning at all costs" left in 1965 in my opinion. It has showed glimpses of coming back in the 80s and 90s and 2000s. The only problem is we don't have a "hard edge" on our players. We don't punish them enough if they lose and intill into them a sense of pride and passion when wearing the Demons jumper. The dark blue and red yoke jumper should mean EVERYTHING to a player who wears it. When it comes to club culture you need tough and uncompromising people to instill a sense of toughness. This applies from the President right down to the boot studder. I think now with Jim Stynes we are SLOWLY starting to see this. But we need to get rid of a lot of the older playing group (via trading or delisting) and start fresh. From now on we should only draft players who are not only very skillful but also have a "mean streak" and a sense of detemination about them. (When I talk about a mean streak I should mention players like Leigh Matthews, Paul Chapman, Wayne Carey, Dean Wallis, Josh Carr, and of course Ron Barassi.) If the players we draft are young and don't have a "mean streak" or a sense of ruthlessness or determination in them it is the job of the coaching staff AND the rest of the people involved in the MFC to instill this into our players. It should be always remembered that WINNING is the ONLY option. While coming close (but losing) and putting in a good, hard, tough, effort is admirable it is still NOT good enough! Once we have a sense of ruthlessness, toughness and determination instilled into our club, only then will we start to create a winning culture once again here at the Melbourne Football Club.
  8. Excellent little news article there! Good to see things are SLOWLY falling into place with the alignment between Casey Fields, The Melbourne Demons and the Casey Scorpions. I'll have to consider moving into the area near a mate who lives in Cranbourne North. :D
  9. Anybody remember back in 2005 or 2006 when we played Geelong on a Friday night and pumped them? Brent Moloney had just crossed over from Geelong to the Demons and he hip-and-shouldered Jimmy Bartel and basically knocked him out. I think we won by nearly 10 goals too! Ahhh the memories... You never know...the Demons could have a surprise upset win against the Cats tonight!? Yes I'm dreamin' I know!
  10. Good to see Ron Barassi show his passion for the Melbourne Demons. I prefer that we survive here in Melbourne and don't have to die. That is why we have the Demon Debt Demolition!
  11. I'm surprised Yze_Magic didn't make a comment asking why Cameron Bruce didn't individually donate $10,000 to the MFC? Either way the MFC players DID donate some money (they should be applauded for that) and for Brock McLean to donate $10,000 more of his OWN money shows a lot about his generous and loyal character. The bloke has made a few mistakes but overall I think he is a pure CHAMPION! I believe he must have Red & Blue pumping through his veins too! I know people say its not a good thing to do but I would sign up Brock McLean as a Demon for the rest of his career and seriously consider him in the race to become a future MFC Captain just for his kindness and genorosity. He's a pretty good player too...
  12. My tip for Captain? I reckon Brad Green will be the next MFC Captain with Brock McLean as the Vice Captain. Cameron Bruce, Brad Miller, Nathan Jones and James McDonald in the leadership group. Long term suggestion for leadership aspirations? I'll put a bet on Jack Grimes.
  13. I hope Garry Lyon reminds people on the Footy Show tonight about the Demon Debt Demolition website. Luckily, I get my tax return next week so I'll be able to donate a bit of money too!
  14. I hope there will be a few Melbourne supporters in the audience? A mate of mine lives in Cranbourne North so he may be going along to this council meeting tonight. I genuinely hope that the Councillors will accept the MFC's application so things can get started. I'm not really sure what time I finish work but I'll try and make it there to the meeting. Hopefully there will be a few Melbourne supporters there and they can give a full report of what happens later this evening?
  15. I just got home from work! What did Jim Stynes say?
  16. Good to see blokes like Guest and Johnson who basically wanted to have the MFC "merged" are now quite apologetic for their actions and are now donating large sums of money to the club to help with this Demon Debt Demolition. I wonder if Gutnick and a few other Demon supporting millionaires will also offer a large donation??? Personally I think it will and should be the rank-and-file Melbourne supporters that will have to fork out the money to pay off the debt as it is those supporters that buy their memberships and try to turn up to as many games as possible who wish to keep the Melbourne Football Club alive. I hope we can not only wipe off our debt of $5 million but add on another couple of million (so we are in the black) that way we never have to deal with this problem of debt again.
  17. I think this is a good idea! :D Nothing better than using humour to gain memberships!
  18. I'll wait until next season to reserve my judgement. I wanna see a Demons Premiership before I praise Dean Bailey too much!
  19. Didn't somebody (Greg Swann?) who is now at Carlton but was once at Collingwood say that Nick Davis was a "bad character" or something along those lines???? We are in a rebuilding phase and therefore need YOUTH! Nobody over 23.
  20. I can't find it on the net. Go and buy today's Herald Sun to read it.
  21. Just heard on the radio that the MFC denied they are abandoning their move to the bubble-dome/rectangular stadium. Too much money has been put into it for it all to go to waste. Those people who donated money to the Red & Blue foundation would be furious if this happened!
  22. I wanted to go to bubble-dome! It was supposed to have state-of-the art training facilities!
  23. I didn't like what that imbecile Don McIntyre (a Melbourne hater?) said on page 27 of the Herald Sun today about the MFC. He is basically trying to put a 'guilt-trip' onto the Casey Council. <_< He should be intelligent enough to realise that the long-term advantages of having an AFL club with their training facilities in the Casey area will pay dividends and have a lot more benefits for ALL of the people that live there.
  24. I thought the Casey councillors were in favour of the MFC setting up at Casey Fields? It was only 2 (one a so-called Demons supporter! <_< ) who were against this happening? Hopefully Jim Stynes and the MFC board can make a few phone calls and get things back on track? It would be very, very disappointing if the plan to move the Demons Summer training base into Casey Fields fell through. As the August 5th meeting is an "open" one to the general public I encourage all Demons supporters to get down their and make as much noise as possible to make sure the Demons DO move into Casey Fields.
  25. Well lets hope he does nominate this year and that (if the MFC think he is suitable) we pick him in the 2008 National Draft. He will probably spend the first year playing with our reserve/VFL team (Casey Scorpions?) mainly anyways so he will be given the time to complete his year 12 VCE. Plus if he loves living in Melbourne...who better to play for than the Melbourne Demons!
