Josh Lyon - is the son of a gun a gun?
Supreme_Demon replied to demonking's topic in Melbourne Demons
If he is big and tall and strong then I think it would be worth having a look at him? I guess we'll see if he tries out with the Sandringham Dragons or Oakleigh Chargers and is serious about playing AFL. It would be great to see a new Lyon at the Demons. ☺ Let's hope he isn't as grumpy as his old man though!? ??? In the end, it is up to any individual (son of a gun or not) if they have the skill, desire and motivation to play AFL. -

How's Angus Brayshaw's face? Apparently he copped a whack from Jack Viney going for the loose ball. Hopefully, there's no major injury? -
Christian Petracca - Season Ending Knee Injury
Supreme_Demon replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks mate! Maybe if I was 21 and not 34 I would make the rookie list! I look like Mick Martyn formerly of North Melbourne according to my little brothers and I was apparently "too rough" in my first game according to the umpires. Once I go through rehab I look forward to getting back to running and playing footy again next season. The one silver lining from last year was that I was co-winner of the President's award for the best clubman at my football team in 2014. Either way, I look forward to having a chat with Christian Petracca and wishing him all the best with his recovery from his ACL injury. -

Didn’t Garry Lyon have about 3 or 4 sons? Good news if at least one of them ends up playing for the Demons. -
Breaking our 10 game losing streak v St Kilda?

I would go but I'm still in far too much pain from my knee surgery. I will attend a Demons training session next week perhaps depending on my mobility on crutches. Looking forward to having a chat to Brendan McCartney and welcoming him to the Melbourne Football Club actually. ☺ -
Still would have liked to have had a small public statement from the Melbourne Football Club quashing the rumours. But I assume that they didn't want to add fuel to the fire with all the gossip-mongering on the radio at 3AW.

Christian Petracca - Season Ending Knee Injury
Supreme_Demon replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ironically, I now lay here in my bed after having knee surgery yesterday. I feel sorry for Christian but I know he has the determination and desire to totally recover. I ruptured my ACL in my right knee playing AFL Super League in the middle of last year. After being on the public waiting list I finally had my operation yesterday. My knee is very swollen and sore. I cannot drive my car for 2 weeks and have no idea when I will be back at work again. I am also currently on 3 types of painkillers until I can get some sleep and the swelling goes down. Christian has the support of his strongly close knit Italian family, his friends and an entire AFL Club. Not only that, but he has his operation booked in for next Tuesday. He will also be having one of the finest surgeons in Australia operate on his knee. As much as it is a blow for him individually I'm sure he will recover. Just as I will eventually. He is fortune enough to be an AFL player though, whereas I am not even close! Plus I am alot older at 34 years of age. Nevertheless, this bit of bad luck will be a mere tiny obstacle in Christian's AFL career at the Demons. In the long run the bigger picture which Paul Roos and Simon Goodwin are trying to paint must be remembered. One individual player will not change this entire club. It is all about team culture and team leadership. I am disappointed about what has happened to Christian. I am sure he is very frustrated at the moment. However, I'm certain he will overcome this hiccup in his career and life though. We as Demons supporters will just have to wait until 2015 to see Christian play though. A real Demon never gives in! I wish him all the best with his surgery and his rehab. I may even come along to Demons training myself and support him while he is doing rehab too. I won't be doing much for a few weeks anyways. I can always catch the train and hobble over to watch Demons training at Gosch's Paddock while on my crutches perhaps? Overall, the only way to get out of this mentality of self-pity is by being determined and having single-mindedness to succeed. Under Paul Roos I am more confident of a fundamental culture change than I have ever before. Christian will be part of a successful Demons Premiership side in the future. We just need to be patient and stay the course. Go Demons in 2015 and beyond!☺- 482 replies

I just woke up to read this rubbish and gossip-mongering on 3AW. I'm pretty angry about all this! We do not need this garbage causing instability at the Melbourne Football Club! I demand (as a paid up member) that our President Glen Bartlett (as well as Peter Jackson) address this issue first thing this morning and get on the front foot! No more instability!!! We cannot allow rumours to derail the start of our 2015 season!

So how has Brendan McCartney been going so far in his first week at the Demons? Hopefully once he has settled in a bit more Matt Burgan will interview him and put the video up on the Melbourne Football Club website? Time will tell what kind of impact Brendan McCartney will have at the Demons.

I'm very interested to see how Brendan McCartney goes at the Melbourne Football Club. I think he is a man of great character who is highly regarded in AFL coaching circles. Specifically in his role as a development coach. It must not be forgotten the brilliant work he did at Geelong from 2000 until 2010. He was instrumental in helping to change Geelong's culture. The only issue is his unfortunate tenure at the Western Bulldogs as the senior coach. The questions need to be asked? Will he get along alright with Daniel Cross? Has he learnt from his player relationships at the Western Bulldogs? Were the Bulldogs players "sooks" and too soft or was he too harsh on the players? Personally I think Brendan McCartney has learned ALOT from his time at the Western Bulldogs and he will be brilliant in his development coaching role at the Demons! In the end, time will tell how well this relationship will work between Brendan McCartney and the Melbourne players. Either way, I have faith in the football department that we made the right decision in recruiting him to not only develop our players but also to be a mentor for Simon Goodwin when he takes over from Paul Roos as senior coach of the Demons in 2017.

I haven't been since they used to have them at the Camberwell Town Hall! If I'm not working I'll go along with one of my brothers.

I'd love to have Paul Chapman at the Demons for a year or two. He would be great in implementing a better culture here at the MFC. He wouldn't cost much. And he could definitely be a playing coach too? As much as he won't make a massive impact on the field he would help alot of the younger players at the Demons develop a no-nonsense, harder approach. Whether or not he wants to come to the Demons and Paul Roos actually wants him is another story altogether... Either way, Paul Chapman would be a great influence on our playing group.

Just read this article and got really bloody mad! Here is the link: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/hawthorn-president-andrew-newbold-angry-at-afl-plans-to-give-melbourne-cash-priority-pick/story-fni5f91a-1226713988648 Does the Hawthorn President realize that the Demons are currently an impediment on the entire AFL competition (as mentioned by our CEO Peter Jackson) and that we NEED the AFL extra funding and the priority pick to actually get better?! Hawthorn received priority picks and that helped them win the 2008 Flag! They are now looking at winning the Premiership this year! I get the feeling that Hawthorn are jealous that the Demons are getting help. I think that is a disgrace and totally hypocritical on their behalf! We don't have 60,000+ members like the Hawks do! We need all the help we can get to turn things around! Getting Paul Roos as a coach is a massive boost...but in the end it will be player talent and hard work that will help make the Demons rise up the ladder! Equalization is all about helping the poorer and worse performing teams to actually improve and have an equal chance of winning the premiership. A strong and successful Melbourne Demons will be good for the entire AFL competition! The jealous hypocrites at Hawthorn can shut up!

Back onto the topic of Paul Roos.... Is he still a possibility to sign with the MFC? Is it still purely 50/50? What's the latest news on it all?
-
I hope we can still keep Neil Craig at the Demons. Even if we do (possibly?!) get Paul Roos. The more high quality people we have at the MFC the better. Nevertheless, it depends if we can find a suitable role for Neil Craig and if he still wants to stay here at the Demons. Time will tell...
-
I think the Demons need to roll the dice here. We should consider offering Paul Roos a 5 million dollar, 5 year contract. I know it's a big risk, however, we need to give Paul Roos plenty of time to fix up our football team. Plus it will give Demons supporters hope and a bit of patience. Nevertheless, I must admit I'm surprised by Paul Roos changing his mind. I was of the opinion that we should get Mark Williams. All I can say, is that I want Paul Roos to put his heart and soul into the Melbourne Football Club if he wants to coach us!

Here is the new MFC President's speech for those interested: I found it quite impressive....however...actions speak louder than words in the end!

Cameron Ling and Wayne Carey would be very handy to have at the Melbourne Football Club. I doubt Wayne Carey would come though....he seems to have a lot of contempt and malice towards the Demons. Maybe it was from when he hurt his shoulder against us in Round 1 of 1997 when we surprisingly had a win againt the Kangaroos? I wouldn't mind having David King helping the Demons too...he seems to be an outspoken critic of us....with it is just pure hatred or genuine concern for the Melbourne Demons remains to be seen. Matthew Lloyd would be another who would be a good forwards coach to bring to the club. We basically need successful people who have been at successful clubs and won Premierships and have a hard edge about them. The more successful people we get at the Melbourne Demons the better it will be in changing our club culture.

David Schwarz for MFC President? [MERGED]
Supreme_Demon replied to Supreme_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I wouldn't mind seeing Greg Wells back involved at the Melbourne Football Club. I honestly don't know much about Greg Wells. I know he was a good player for the Demons back in the 70s and then left to Carlton to play in Premierships. If he is a good businessman and a passionate Demons supporter who wants to help out the Club then he's more than welcome to help! The more help we get the merrier! -
David Schwarz for MFC President? [MERGED]
Supreme_Demon replied to Supreme_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's some harsh critics on here! It was merely a suggestion... If people have better suggestions then that's fine....I just want a successful culture finally implemented at the Melbourne Football Club. We haven't had a Premiership since 1964.....we need to work through this problem and solve our issues together. No more mediocrity and acceptance of near enough is good enough.... I just want to see SUCCESS...I want to see the Melbourne Demons win the Premiership during my lifetime. Is that too much to ask for? -
The players need to show PASSION for the jumber! They need to BLEED for the Melbourne Football Club! Hopefully this camp in Sorrento helps a bit with team bonding....

David Schwarz for MFC President? [MERGED]
Supreme_Demon replied to Supreme_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
You guys all seem to like to shoot down my suggestion...but that's fine. But can you provide a BETTER option? If not David Schwarz then who..?? We need LEADERSHIP! We need to CHANGE the MFC culture! We need to to have SUCCESS! -
Patrick Smith can go and get stuffed! We are the oldest Club in the AFL! We created the rules of the game and have been around for 150 years! Every Football Club has gone through challenging periods! You can't just pull the rug from under us! We haven't had the mass amount of money and draft concessions that Gold Coast and GWS have had! You cannot just kill us off becuase of a few bad losses! We aren't in any financial problems like Fitzroy were! The Melbourne Football Club needs to stand up to Media bullies like Patrick Smith and other morons....send these scumbag journalists angry letters and we all need to turn up to Demons training and to Demons matches. We need to keep the Media accountable for these kinds of disgraceful and stupid articles such as those by imbeciles like Patrick Smith! First and Forever!!!

No disrespect to Don McLardy....I know he's done a good job as President of the Melbourne Demons. However, his interview today with the resignation for Cameron Schwab was underwhelming. Both Jim Stynes (RIP) and Don McLardy were excellent in their efforts of fixing up the mass amount of debt that the Melbourne Football Club had. Nevertheless, we need a NEW culture change at the Melbourne Football Club. People who have leadership and are also a spruikiers of the Demons in the Media. People who will continue to talk about Media and promote us in a positive manner. As we now know, Garry Lyon is "too busy" to help the Demons and we shouldn't expect him to come to our aid. That is why I think we should ask David Schwarz and perhaps also Dr. Turf (John Rothfield) to help with joining the Melbourne Football Club board (yes, I was listening to SEN Radio this afternoon!). David Schwarz would be an excellent President of the Melbourne Football Club in my honest opinion. We should also look at getting a number of other former MFC players to help out the club. In a kind of "call to arms" at the Demons. I know that Glenn Lovett (the bald one) is now a successful businessman and is somebody who may also like to come and help the Demons out. Overall, the main thing we need at the Melbourne Football Club NOW is LEADERSHIP and those who wish to CHANGE the culture of the Demons. Somebody who is similar to former Cats President Frank Costa and Collingwood President Eddie "Everywhere" McGuire. As much as I hate Collingwood I respect Eddie McGuire as a good Football Club President. The time is NOW to change the entire culture at the Melbourne Football Club, from the President down to the boot-studder, and bring about a new and successful future. In the end we all need to know stick together to help the survival of our beloved Melbourne Football Club.
