GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs Adelaide
From the nekkid coaching box: Play Max at full forward - can take a contested mark and doesnt get any shorter. This will really stretch them. Jacko to take the centre bounces with Tommo as chop out. It will force Crows to shift a swing an back to cover, giving balance to our backline. I think we are one small forward short. Bedford of C Wagner needs to be at the feet of the forwards. Dees to win by 37 points.

TEAMS: Rd 10 vs Adelaide
Weather forecast as fine, so no reason to play small down back. Maybe we didn’t expect them to play all the talls? 8 changes is a heck of a lot. we Will will this if we win the contest and dominate forward half time. The midfield should be one of the best in the comp, but they too often play panicked and slow under pressure. watch out for Max to ruck then play back half, ie Chb. Tommo to do midfield ruck, Jacko forward 50. Let’s see which side turns up.

No one needs a rest, they only had a light run last Thursday...

Preferred Midfield Mix
After our insipid performance, i looked at a few other midfields over the weekend. We seem to crash forward every time. Other successful midfields would often play laterally, bringing up a winger or half back to provide outside run. We get the tap from Max, then barge forward handballing furiously to each other before dumping the ‘chaos ball’ inside 50. When we could run the extra off the back of the square this had potential. The midfield mix is less relevant than their method. Against a well drilled and strong midfield, we get shown up every time. However, on topic, I would play Viney at half forward a lot more, use Harmes as a Tagger, and rely on Oliver, Trac, Brayshaw, Swallow and occasionally Melksham to work with the wings to create a more systematic exit, rather than just a chaotic one.

The Rest of the Season
This is a season when almost all teams are dropping their pants at some point. we just dropped ours. If we can bag a few wins in the next little stretch, we could even make finals. It might be papering over the cracks, but it would be seen as a pass.... If the calculations are true, then we have had the hardest run so far and the easiest run to the finish line.

I think the term ‘Catharsis’ comes to mind if we fall next week

THE TEAM STRUCTURE
Why didnt you post this after the hawks game? I disagree with about 80% of your commentary

Josh Mahoney - The Secret Unlocked!
Elgit, his pregame videos are absolute mockers - he interviews Stafford about goal kicking and we miss everything against the Lions. He interviews Plopp about forward structure and it sucks a big one against the Power. Seems to have the kiss of death!

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
We got first hands on it from max so many times, but proceeded to a) fumble, b) be pre-tackled, or c) rush a dump-disposal and turn it over. Max needs confident, strong and capable midfielders at his feet. The midfielders are the issue. They just dont know how to do more than the one thing (get ball, get rid of ball). When we come up against poor, slow or weak midfields, we look a million bucks. It is so rushed that good teams take advantage. We need smarter midfielders who make time and find valuable exits according to a range of plans, not just get ball dump ball.

The Rest of the Season
Best team on the park each week. Win as many as we can. No favourites - out of form, no game. Work on midfield process. More options when things aren’t working. Last night was terrible, but hopefully it was a slip and not a new standard.

CHANGES: Rd 10 vs Adelaide
Drop without question: TMAC Drop also: Harmes, Brayshaw. Question: Fritta, Hannan, Salem, Jones Ins: Tommo for TMAc Can run a wing and still gives us mobile size. Sparrow stays in. AVB in if ready. Rivers, Jordon and even Brown to get a look in. Spargo maybe for balance. Keep Kosi and Jackson.

Tom McDonald
Wow. he had an absolute Barry Crocker. Not only no value, a dead set liability on the night. Kicked 4 in the praccy match. What to make of it all? Would almost be the fist dropped for mine for next week. Is he ‘done’? Not writing him off yet, but he is not a shadow on what he needs to be. Can we swap him for that Georgiadis kid?

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
I haven’t seen a performance that poor in ages. lazy, weak tackles, second to the ball, not covering the outlets properly, not honouring player with the ball. Midfield as a unit were disgraceful. TMAC was so far off the pace it was not funny. Several of the young guys tried hard, but they should all hang their heads in shame. We had a chance to make a statement and they served up that dross. If Goody sugar coats that in the presser (“no question”...something or other) I will spew. Suck [censored] demons. That was woeful. Break my damned spirit with that one.

GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
We are being destroyed through better coaching again. Port get it to the outside and go fast. We get sucked to the inside and watch as the ball flies away. Second to contests, lazy tackles, no vision, not running for each other. As 2019 as any game this year.

GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Port Adelaide
That was poor. Need to really change things up at q time or we are screwed

Midfield blues
Brisbane set up perfectly to beat us in the middle, and it took until 1/2 time to start to crack the code. They played off our midfield, ring fenced our midfield and squeezed the ball out of our midfielders. It worked a treat and they won the clearances significantly. The bollocking of Viney and the better work of Oliver certainty turned things around. Brayshaw not so much, and Petracca was shaded versus last week. Our game relies on us winning in the contest. Our backline was phenomenal to keep us in it until we switched things up.

POSTGAME: Rd 08 vs Brisbane
Such a Melbourne loss. So many ways we could have won, but just couldn’t. The misses were so costly, but they missed several as well. I liked the fact that we didnt give up, we reset at the contest where we were being smashed. Viney willed us forward, what a legend! Outplayed by a very good team, there was a small window to pinch it but.. MFCSS...

When we beat Brisbane, I will....
Not swear nearly as much as when we lose!
