TRADES, DELIST, PROMOTE
Way too soon. We don't even know list sizes etc yet, let alone any performance criteria!

TEAM: Rd 02 vs Carlton
A few comments: The defense is played as a unit. The big blokes of Carlton have to get through the system and if our backs are good enough, being a little shorter should be ok if we block space, rush their entries and hit their bodies on the contests. Their two big blokes wont get shorter, but we can corral them into low probability areas. Going with speed to break lines and upset zones is actually a good idea. If our skills can keep up, then continually playing the ball forward and winning the contest should play to our strengths. The pressure inside our forward 50 needs to be manic, and to be looking for sweepers to clear the area and get us closer to goals. Having Bennell and Brayshaw on the outside, with Trac Ollie and Viney clearing the congestion and smashing bodies could break up their zones and get us through. last nights game was terrible in terms of standard. Hope our ‘smash and grab’ approach sets us up with a new way that eliminates the need to ‘bomb it to a stationary big bloke’.

CHANGES: Rd 02 vs Carlton
From our last game, I could see Brown, Hibbs and the half forwards being axed. A strong message is then sent. This allows Bennell and Jones onto HFF, Jackson to replace brown, riv to replace Hibbard. Some further changes would see Salo onto the bench and maybe Weid. OMac looks safe, unless Smith is preferred by Goody.

TEAM: Rd 02 vs Carlton
The football club is sending a huge message. If you don’t step up, your spot will go to a kid who will make an effort. Might be an interesting year of development in some new key players for our future??

Kick it Clarry
Consider that he has an ave kick per game that is near the median, but his hand balling Ave is so far off the charts. What a freak (in a good way).

TRAINING: 2 Weeks to Go
Forwards: TMAC, Weid, Jackson, Preuss, Petty, Brown, Max (rotation): Hannan, Jones, ANB, Hunt, Bennell, Kosi, Bedford, Chandler, Dunkley, CWags, Fritsch, Petracca (rotation) We are probably a crash and bash forward (like a Jonno Brown or dare I say it Hogan) short at this stage. Otherwise, most of the goals have to come from this mob somewhere.

Jack Steven Incident
Anyone want to take a stab at what the penalty will be?

Revised 2020 Fixture
I think I knew her at uni... Yep, death slot for crowds, but a boon for us in tv. And we will be 4:1 away games, so if crowds come back, we may get better revenues from attendances than others

Kevin Sheedy Hypocrite
As always, loves to promote his ideas and favourites, and always operates from self interest. Has done some good things, but gws are either a real team now, or not. Can’t rub it both ways.

Revised 2020 Fixture
Glad there are no crowds allowed. We play in the Sunday arvo death slot 3 times, but it is made for tv!

Forward 50 Entries Are Being Addressed
Petty may yet be the one. He is a good reader of the play, a good footballer and a competitor. As the mobile tall third, he could be the surprise.

3 weeks away
Brown was favoured over Weid in round 1. Hopefully Weid has Taken the time to do what needs to be done to make it in. If Brown is the answer, I’m not sure I like the question... Hannan for Bennell.

Regrettable Trades
Regret - we look back and wish we didn't do it. Thats not how it works, you make the best decision that you can at the time. Howe - wanted to go, so this was a trade because we had to. In each case the numpties don’t have all the facts. The clubs might have made some bad calls, but we cant know what would have been the outcome if the trade was not made. I have zero regrets about the trades they mention. I may have more regrets that we were a club that no one wanted to come to for so long, that we were crap at developing players and we chose a string of coaches who were just not up to it.

Goodwin Concerned About Cuts to Coaching Staff
The choice in who you cut will be interesting, and might give teams a competitive advantage. You would think more advanced teams would need less assistant coaches, and more sports science and fitness. Developing clubs might need more development coaches and less fitness and sports science (less need to keep the old players going?). Who a team cuts will be an interesting strategic choice. I would say we need burgo + a couple, a kicking coach, goodie and maybe Richo. Add back from there.

Gawn's Top 5 Misses
I thought it was an error- we were going to look at Max’s missus....

Dees vs Pies 2000 The Wizard's 9 Goals
Commentators pro-pies from the start. Nothing has changed. Pinhead Hudson still sounds like he is dribbling dog poop smelling saliva down his chin, 20 years later. What a talented team. You forget how good that squad was. Shame we couldnt close the gate that year.

Dees vs Kangaroos 1991 Jakovich’s 11 Goals
Thanks for posting! A great watch on a cold winter’s saturday. The game is so different now, probably better viewing back then. Tough as blazes, too. What a great Demons team - I wonder how they would fare in the modern world?

Training in 10’s
Not like the NRL, then, where training involves the sharing of hookers and coke..... Not even sharing the footy - i suppose that they could all hand sanitise before and after?? Like I handle the shopping trolleys at Coles with 1500 other shoppers and have to use good hygene to make that work? I’m sure the rules will be clarified before they are allowed out to train.

Fixture Throwback: Rd 13 2014 vs Essendon
Our talls were Jamar, Dunn, TMAc, Dawes, Pedo, Frawley. Dunn and TMac did OK back, but thought Pedo was a liability for most of the game, Dawes and Frawley did OK, Jamar limited and lumbering. Our talls round 1 2020: May, Omac, Max, TMac, Brown and Tomlinson. Hmmm...add Jackson and Weid, or even Preuss? So many names on the rest of the field that make you wince: A blood nut in 13 that is not Clarrie. A field full of possibilities. Early days for Viney, Salem and Petracca. And it sounds like this was the game during the injection scandal kicking off for the bombers.

Dean Laidley arrested
No winners here. A sad affair and a terrible outcome for Dean. Ricky Nixon proves himself to be an obnoxious, glory hunting, narcissistic [censored]. The police officer involved who thought breaching privacy was a good idea. The gutter press that posted pics gained through this obvious breach of privacy. Appropriate process should be followed. Public interest stopped at ‘he was arrested and not bailed’. Everything after that is salacious trash that serves no one.

Training in 10’s
With the training for clubs about to go up to groups of 10, would you: Train in line groups (forwards, backs, midfielders) Train in groupings (3 forwards, 4 mids, 3 backs) Or something else?? Considering our two greatest needs will be connection between lines (especially Mids to the forwards) and cohesion in line groups, I would suggest we probably need a mix of both. Are we allowed to mix and match?

Eagles and Dockers get unfair advantage
With WA allowing groups of 10 to congregate, WCE and Freo are changing their training to work around this regulation. This means line groups can essentially work together, and train skills, coordination and motivation benefits over other teams who cannot train with others. Should the AFL stop this to allow equity, or will these teams be given an unfair leg up for the rest of this season?

Melbourne Ladder 2020
Round 1: there was actually a lot to like. We got blasted in about 7 minutes of the first quarter, some of that WA luck running hard. We never closed the gap, but were not smashed from there. Some bad entries (might be a WC specific problem, as they have a backline that plays perfectly against the way we enter 50), but other elements were pretty solid. Think we might have been 3-3 after 6. Mid table.
