So I read there is a Scratch match against Essendon at Casey Fields on Friday. i May find myself in the area, does anyone know what time the game would start?
-
It may be also that the pre-season is harder than they have ever done, and a few niggles have emerged. This time leading into the giggles games is a perfect time to ease people back /modify programs to aid recovery, get players over niggles and set them up for the season proper. We have being going hard at it, so if we have a few contact and soft tissue injuries and can ease players through, they will have done the hard kms and training, and can now do modified and maintenance work so they can be as near to cherry ripe as possible. There are some concerns with that list, but not as many as the ‘total number’ suggests. IF we can get through the piracy games without adding any to the lower end of this list, think I think we will be in a good spot for the season proper.

Where is this game going to be located, please?

“Hey its Harley, Call me Back!!!”

The coach has 2 sides, does that mean we have to have co captains, or can someone sit next to the coach and not be captain?

Thanks for the advice Mr Cornes. I know it’s all puff, but to hear the messages that: it has been tough, but the novelty has been great (ball in hand) draftees all fitting in and working hard smiles, good culture, strong team first twice the number of players involved in full preseason. make me a happy, and a bit optimistic, as a demon. what does he want? Moaner and groaner.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
buck_nekkid replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. This is good in so many dimensions. That we have a list in which there is room to take a punt. That we send a signal that we are a great place for ‘new starts’. That we have a great environment, where his interaction with the club and the team were important in getting onto the list. I think this is a cheap pickup for us, that is essentially all upside if he comes good. I am barracking hard for a mid season demon debut, building to a game changer in the finals. Go Harley! -
I find his comment that he is ‘looking to cement a place in the side’ as interesting. Perhaps with the additional depth and advancement of players, the forward line might be up for some serious competition. In the ‘talls’ there is Weid, TMAc, Preuss and Jackson. In the mid range there is AVB, Hannan, Fritter, Melksham and even Petracca. In the small s there is Pickett, Bedford, Chandler, Spargo. That’s a lot of guys driving down the Monash each weekend to play at Casey. If he now has his hips freed up and he can get his confidence up, perhaps the finals of 18 can be the new benchmark for him?

Imagine getting stuck with the same pair of Grundies for 7 years..... Obviously both sides were happy, so as long as no one in Red and Blue wants the same, I’m thinking ‘so what’?

TRAINING POSTPONED: Wednesday 15th January 2020
buck_nekkid replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
They might be in the shelter sheds having 5 or 6 darts to replicate outdoor training conditions... Max the captain for this exercise.... -

So, Just got my 'online only' membership. the club have sure made a mountain out of a molehill. Instead of a digital card I would store on my phone, I have to access 'tickets' to each individual game. Talk about making things harder than they needed to be. I just want the barcode in an easy to use place so I can get into the game, into my premium seating area, and to the bar! I dont want to have to take 6 steps on my phone to do it when it should be there in one.
-
Maybe you could donate to keep your player out? For example, if we reached 100k, Max Gawn Stands out for the next best, and so on? I reckon supporters would dig deep to keep their players out of this time waster.

We put out a team that beat the pies in the first pre season game. Dees were a ‘buy’! We started the season and the complete lack of physical and mental preparation became apparent. We may have had 22 fit players to put on the park, but they had almost zero preparation in the systems. The so called ‘connection’ didnt emerge for the whole season. So they may have been ‘physically ready’ (they could get out there), but they had no systems training, no endurance to run out matches, and pretty quickly zero confidence. Now turn the calendar over to 2020. We have already had most of the team in main training, handling footballs and running match-valid drills.

Tomlinson. I see his role as a cut-out tall supporting outlet from the back half and offering contested marking power on the way back being really important to our structure.

Crystal Ball 2020: Your predictions for next season
buck_nekkid replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
My Crystal ball: Demons finish regular season in fourth. Petracca to stamp himself as a match winner in a couple of big games, like the Tigers Anzac Day Game. Pickett to be first draftee to play, getting 5 games. Weid to gain confidence over the first half of the season, becoming a handful for defenders and a fan favourite with his attack on the footy after the bye. Our new wings to really making a structural difference, enhancing transition and delivery. May and Lever to find their groove and become a seriously scary set of players in a strong back 6. In non demons news: North to drop like a stone with poor culture, Adelaide also on the slide Brisbane to settle back to lower top 8 Doggies to play hot and cold, but their hot is red hot. Tigers get big heads and dont apply the same pressure across the park and get caught out more often. Gil to be a complete Dill on at least 3 occasions before the bye. The MRP is still a farce, playing favourites and being too difficult to even guess who will get rubbed out, who will get a fine and who will be Paddy Dangerfield. -
Are the phones working??? Comedy gold.
-
He's out. Doesn't matter to me where he is going. I like that it stitched the Tigers up a bit (it may have changed their drafting and trading strategy), and will cost them some cap. They will also need to find a long term replacement. We would be howling if one of our top 4-5 players decided to retire like this. I also ask how it came to this. Should Rance have 'surprised' the club like this? Did he know for a while? Was it a re-injury? Did he not like the effort he had to put in? I imagine if this were a demons player, we would be crying foul relating to player management, connection between club and player and appropriate player monitoring. The timing is dreadful for them.

Shame for the kid. Glad the club is getting behind him. The training reports were very positive, so hopefully he can come back and show something. If he and KK go on the LTI, does that allow us to top up with some additional rookies?
-
He was only a ‘puppy’ last year, and was only introduced to Casey as the season progressed. He showed a few things of real interest, and I am keen to see how he develops. As you say, Saty, Casey will have a very interesting forward line with Jackson and Bradtke, until they get call ups to assist in the seniors. If Kozzie is buzzing at their feet....

Dees Slide in Champion Data 2020 Rankings
buck_nekkid replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
This list of elite players does not tally with common sense. How can Daw be ‘elite’ if he didnt play last year? And Nic Nat? And Old ‘swayback no hammies’ Franklin. He was a great, but only got our of first gear a couple of times. And Ablett - elite at whinging. Walker - really? Sook to momma in the big games. This looks like a ‘fanboy favourite’ list, rather than reality. If this is how they judge ‘elite’ then it is no wonder the rankings they provide per team are so divorced from reality. -
One of our biggest problems last year- and earlier than that- was the lack of contested marking ability around the ground. His ability to push up and back, as well as Tomlinson’s, might give us so much more that we lacked previously. To both compete on the way out, or to link up on the way in, were critical gaps. This may be an inspired pick up in ways people are not considering. He could play high hff, roll down to make contests and give us link up options that don’t involve 100% chaos ball. i have no evidence that this was the club’s thinking, but I don’t see him as a TMac or Weid replacement., or even competition.
