They are moving things around to maximise TV coverage thanks to the whacky antics of COVID McKenna.

I think the scratch game today plus matchups will be important at selection. I suspect the crash plus speed philosophy will hold, and not too many changes from the non-team from r3 will be made.

Melbourne vs Essendon Postponed
buck_nekkid replied to Deemented Are Go!'s topic in Melbourne Demons
There is an incubation period of 5 to 8+ days on average before people test positive and are infectious. Two days ago would not be long enough time for incubation. It’s why they look 2 weeks after the protest marches for spikes in rates. -
My interest has now gone to ZERO. Thanks bum holes.

Source? This puts the whole competition in jeopardy

Look across the game and big forwards are not kicking the bags they used to. Seems like the Pies model of one big plus lots of mediums seems to be effective with the way the game is being played. So tough for the kid Weid - hopefully he knows what needs to be shown to get back into the firsts. TMAC should be feeling under pressure to perform, and Brown was a ‘nice to have’ as insurance for both. I think the gameplan may have changed a bit after the recruiting, with the smaller and speedier demons emerging in response to the COVID stuff. Add wet weather and he has no chance. Jackson is supposedly a freak, I look forward to seeing that. Many players dont make it. Lets see if Weid can prove his worth and make it back in.

This team can win this - we have to win the contest and hold our defensive structures. That is all the Hawks did. Nothing fancy. If the conditions are wet, then winning the grunt ball will be even more important. With the wingers holding their width and our inside mids, we should have the structure to do this. I Would put Bennell and Fritsch high and play TMac and kozzie deep. It looks like Goody wants crash + speed as his mantra (looking at q1 last week). That will either lead to a success or a car crash!

Wrong. Video shows him marking on the ruck bag in the training thread. He may not be fit, but he trained.

What they're saying down at Windy Hill (Pregame)
buck_nekkid replied to Queanbeyan Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
We should set up outside for the big smash forward, like Jeff White used to. Give us a variation that will be hard to counter if Gawn has dominance. -
Putting all of this on Goody is a bit rough. Now let’s see how the group responds to the reviews etc. if it was a 5% drop off mentally (and that is enough to cause the horrendous scenes with Carlton picking up by at least the same amount), how are they going to not let that happen again? if it keeps happening it is on the players and Goody.
-
Now is when Ricoh earns his money. To review the game with Goody, challenging him around his decisions, other options, methods and communication. If Goody is to get better, he needs someone like Richo to challenge his process. He should also be challenging the players as they review their performance.

So Carlton put an extra behind the ball, tightened up around the contest, and ran harder both ways. They positioned better at stoppages to feed of Max and closed our exits when we got it first. The boys on the park have to find ways to counter these simple strategems - even an under 12’s coach would get their team to do these things when they are being belted. And our response? Build pressure on ourselves and panic.

Changes: Need a tall back, not a brainless kangaroo. That means OMac in for Smith. Weid to come in to provide a true marking option forward. Fritsch to hff to deliver. Kosi in. I have trouble dropping Jones, but he is under the pump. As is Melk. Would persist with Jackson. Nibbler probably for the chop. Goody should make a statement. That was just weak. A small amount of pressure and the Dees crumbled. Our ‘speed’ tactic hardly paid off.

It is so hard being a MFC supporter.... We showed the rest of the competition how to beat us. Close check on Trac and Oliver, keep hitting Max hard. Apply even a fraction of pressure - we are weak as stale urine. Of the newbies, Bennell did OK but not a game breaker - 6/10 Jackson - will be better for the run 4/10 Rivers - looked very good on debut 8/10 I would expect plenty of changes for next week. If we play that same squad, we are in trouble. Too many poor performances after 1/4 time.

Way too soon. We don't even know list sizes etc yet, let alone any performance criteria!

A few comments: The defense is played as a unit. The big blokes of Carlton have to get through the system and if our backs are good enough, being a little shorter should be ok if we block space, rush their entries and hit their bodies on the contests. Their two big blokes wont get shorter, but we can corral them into low probability areas. Going with speed to break lines and upset zones is actually a good idea. If our skills can keep up, then continually playing the ball forward and winning the contest should play to our strengths. The pressure inside our forward 50 needs to be manic, and to be looking for sweepers to clear the area and get us closer to goals. Having Bennell and Brayshaw on the outside, with Trac Ollie and Viney clearing the congestion and smashing bodies could break up their zones and get us through. last nights game was terrible in terms of standard. Hope our ‘smash and grab’ approach sets us up with a new way that eliminates the need to ‘bomb it to a stationary big bloke’.

From our last game, I could see Brown, Hibbs and the half forwards being axed. A strong message is then sent. This allows Bennell and Jones onto HFF, Jackson to replace brown, riv to replace Hibbard. Some further changes would see Salo onto the bench and maybe Weid. OMac looks safe, unless Smith is preferred by Goody.
-
The football club is sending a huge message. If you don’t step up, your spot will go to a kid who will make an effort. Might be an interesting year of development in some new key players for our future??

Consider that he has an ave kick per game that is near the median, but his hand balling Ave is so far off the charts. What a freak (in a good way).
-
Forwards: TMAC, Weid, Jackson, Preuss, Petty, Brown, Max (rotation): Hannan, Jones, ANB, Hunt, Bennell, Kosi, Bedford, Chandler, Dunkley, CWags, Fritsch, Petracca (rotation) We are probably a crash and bash forward (like a Jonno Brown or dare I say it Hogan) short at this stage. Otherwise, most of the goals have to come from this mob somewhere.

Anyone want to take a stab at what the penalty will be?

I think I knew her at uni... Yep, death slot for crowds, but a boon for us in tv. And we will be 4:1 away games, so if crowds come back, we may get better revenues from attendances than others
