  1. It's a challenge- we used to have some of the best footy comedians in the seats near us, footy was always a laugh. We upgraded to support the club. Comedy has dropped markedly, passion is still there. I like that people modify their language (kids sitting around) but still get emotionally invested. Having some humor and a bit of rough edge adds to,the experience, but too much of it would really be a pain and lessen my enjoyment. Being in the away seats you see some absolute flogs at some games. Expect lots of them in Black and yellow on Monday...
  2. Goody said on the weekend that since a Hogan came back from the West he had done everything right. Assume he has been training really well, showing the right attitude, etc, so should walk straight back in. Can't see him being left out.
  3. Horses for courses. the Tigers have been a different outfit this year, exchanging Vickery/Riwolt forward to three smalls, who get a lot of long ball over the back. not sure extra height is needed. What we really need is clear execution from halfback (Hibbard), forward 50 pressure (Weids out) and better composure/class in the midfield (Tyson for Trenners?), (Viney etc to step up). We also need our defensive zone to not get sucked too far up the ground. then we can smash them in the contest.
  4. I have had to swallow hawk bile for years with an in law that would just rub everyone's nose in their success. All of a sudden they are not even going to games. Thank the lord for small mercies. 18th and about 50%. Say goodbye to 2017! One less team to fight against for a spot in the 8.
  5. We are 2-2, sitting 8th, with another 5 teams also 2-2. 3-1 would have been about right for our expectations pre-season. We didn't even deserve to be so close after that appalling 3rd quarter, so getting it to a point we nearly won it shows what we are capable of/ why we should be pizzed with what we saw. Goodie says the club is 'devastated'. Ok, PROVE it. Let's see that translate into a hard edge, no quarter given fearless football...for 4 quarters.
  6. There were several occasions where we allowed them to set up goal side with no player back on the line, esp boundary throw ins in their F50. Really dangerous, especially when we are struggling to win the clearance. also, Hill absolutely creamed us- he was responsible for so many goals through his delivery inside 50 and goal assists, and we did little if anything to shut him down. Letting 7 goals and 30 minutes pass by before anyone did anything is appalling. Even Frost to the ruck, Watts to half back or rover, and extra man back, Jake to full forward. Something. Mix it up a bit! a young team learning its craft, but you don't train a dog by getting it to do the wrong things. Why do it with a football team?
  7. WTF? Honestly, WTF? the number of times he was set near-impossible marking tasks on the members wing- and clunked them- was so important. The snap for goal... Weiderman has no ability to pressure or do second acts. Frost did a lot of good things Viney was putrid all day, luckily kicked the last quarter goal ( no excuse for missing the other. jake did well in the ruck, and his marks and goals were valuable. At the start of the third they were flat footed and 'contest watching'. Only took 7 fricken goals for them to snap out of it. annoyed, mainly because we gave this one away. Ins and outs for the tigers will be interesting.
  8. Type 1 diabetes relates to a failure of the pancreas to produce insulin, as opposed to type 2 diabetes which is more about the insulin resistance of cells. You can forget that half-science bs above about Mcmuffin. If he has type 1 diabetes, it is corrected with matching the insulin injected to the carbs consumed and burned, totally manageable in a performance athelete. an AFL footballer with type 2 diabetes would be a major concern. This would require a Plugger Lockett style diet and lack of exercise. young forwards take longer to develop. Judge this contest at the end of their career. He is really a passenger until Roo retires, then he has big boots to fill. happy with Trac, he served massive needs for us.
  9. I hope Lewis is on hand in the rooms and around the young kids. Whilst it's a shame he is not on the field, I still reckon he can add great value as a game day mentor. the result today depends on which Freo and which Dees mob turns up. If we are as good as we hope, then it will be a fun day at the G. However, if we are off and Freo are up after last week, it could be a frustrating afternoon. on paper, we should drill them a new one. Go Dees.
  10. I believe Spencer will do fine. Our new game plan does not call for uncontested possession from stoppages (armchair rides from the ruckman) but instead, continuous contested possession wins all over the ground. If we get it, we go like hell. If they get it, we get it off them - no easy exits. This is based on the emerging midfield/halfback/half forward rotating groups. If he breaks even, I think our game style holds us in great stead. If he wins the stoppages to advantage, then even better. #1 he has to make a serious contest of key stoppages (ball in dispute or a win). #2 he has to be the marking target for outlet kicks, and contest opposition outlet kicks to their ruckman (bringing these to ground) #3 he has to be part of the team in terms of pressure acts, tackling etc #4 if he can sneak forward and kick a goal, that adds some value So, confident that if he has to step up he can add value to the team. What more could you ask? If he shows superstar attributes in the next 12 weeks, then sign him up and play 2 rucks into the finals.
  11. How far away is Hulett? Couldn't he be ruck/forward?
  12. Question: what if Spencil goes down with an injury in the 8-12 weeks? Is King even nearly ready? Flippers is just a kid that gets pushed about in the VFL. All of a sudden, ruck depth becomes a thing of concern. Get well, soon, Maxy!
  13. Geelong played without a ruckman last week. Interesting strategy if you can rove to theirs. I think a ruckman that can give us first use is really valuable in our game plan. Goody was playing 'ducks and drakes', Spence seems to have kept improving, and can go against Sandilands to break even then we will do ok.
  14. Our team vs. Freo potentially looks a lot like Casey last year... Spencer, ANB, Hannan (Footscray), oMac, Smith, Stretch, Oliver, etc etc. 2 observations: we have come a long way from last year (on one hand) We are facing a bit of a crisis with best 22 a paper based exercise only.
  15. Interesting that the general view is tinged with possibility - what could have happened. it is interesting that the team wills itself back into games this year, and is starting to understand tempo ( work in progress, though) rather than simply being at the mercy of opposition. i thought several players were down on output, and others made stupid mistakes. Going to happen. However, for the first time in a long time, even in a loss I can see the possibilities of future success. We may not win them all, but we are developing something here.
  16. I was concerned about big Max before the injury, too. Stupid free kicks, errors, misplaced aggression. Whatever was going on, I thought he needed a spell and the coach to get in his ear. We didn't need him to go down with injury, just calm down and focus on doing his bit.
  17. In the end I streamed the audio from the website. I think for three quarters I'm glad I didn't pay to watch... Back home in time for the next game, but at least all the advice here will be great for when I go next time... thanks everyone.
  18. Vince in for Lewis. petracca to FF with Weid and Watts the talls. bugg in for Hogan. Set him on Dangerfield. its Shitead, so small and fast. Hogan and Lewis to do a lot of gut busting training to make up for their brain fades.
  19. This is simply awful. Lets see what we do - step up or wilt off? We have brought Murphy, Cripps etc into the game. Going to find out if we are serious now.
  20. Up damned early with jet lag, waiting for the game to start. The rowdy wedding party staying in the hotel up to shannanigans till well after 3 am are in for a shock when the first siren blasts through the hotel from my iPad as I settle in to watch this one. Might even plug her into the telly for extra volume! I have a sense that the team know about the up and down formline of the past. Jordan Lewis was on the money - celebrate but move on. We have to focus on what we do, and if the opposition are poor, just do it easier/better. We were able to switch on after a crap first quarter and play our style last week, and that gives me great hope that they understand what they want to achieve in their game style and can execute. That will give us a good win. When we switched on last week, we kicked 10 of 13 goals. X2 and that would be nice (20+ to 6). Go dees.
  21. On each other in the shower after. Of course we know they are coming. The league puts out the fixture the previous year! The Essendrug one - win at all costs - or whatever it was, was prophetic. I like #raisehell. It should represent how we play evert moment this year.
  22. Thanks, cards. I'm a desperate man, so appreciate the advice!
  23. The AFL app is not streaming video whilst I am out of the country ( the other stuff shows, and past videos run). Any tips on how I can watch or listen to our game over the internet? I'm up the back of a channel island with no Sky tv, but great internet. Don't want to miss the game. Any advice, tips or directions greatly appreciated! Go Dees.
  24. Did I miss something? I saw Vince hit shoulder to shoulder, no raised arm, no high contact (on the wing, I think). How is that MRP material? Also, no report on the day. Or am I thinking of the wrong incident? The little 'love taps' on the ground after the tackling the man without the ball inside their 50?? I'm not sure even Attila the Hun would get MRP'ed, and I understand it, his record was a bit worse than Bernies!
