Must admit it caught me unawares after reading earlier htey had re-signed him. At time I wondered if that was really the best option for Shane. Glad he changed his mind and will go out on his terms Thats two of footy's great number 9's no longer on the paddock. clever boy

Please make this guy captain next year!
beelzebub replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Similar thoughts. Id make Junior Capt for next year.with macca as vice c and heir apparent. If he ( macca) shows his worth( in that kind of position ) ..he can take over once Junior departs. -
Fries with that Sir ?? What many either disregard or fail to understand ( not a fault..just observation ) is that in some aspects footy is a bit like a Car in as much as what you see is just that..its what you see. The guts and inward workings of a car..the thing that actually makes it tick invariable have nothing to do with what it looks like...save its basic shape. I have my own understanding of the requirement to foster the return, in heart , to the G. If any team can claim it as a place of spiritual significance in this competition ; it's us !! But as to being our home now ? No The competition in its entirity has changed. From constituent teams to breaking borders to increases in players to revised times almost no aspect has remained since our glory days. Its moved on. To not do so too is to shackle yourself to a doomed and sinking ship. Again like a car we may possibly be able to reclaim the G as part of our shroud, our cosmetic, our look but as a means of gettting the machine to work properly we need ( and again an ananlogy of the auto industry springs to mind ) to adopt new motive platforms. The clubs that will survive will be the ones ahead of trends and in positions to capitalise on emerging supporter bases. Many need to be reminded that Casey is only PART of a strategy. Its going to be very interesting over the next few years to see how the various parties adapt and indeed adopt. Curiously the old adage suggests you need to Go Forth to Multiply..and not stay at home.. not that we really have had..or have one

Its nothing if not interesting to see how everyone views the 'viewing' of a game. I must confess I expected ideas of an entirely different type to surface here but am intrigued as to the manner and detail some go to to watch a game. As a kid I used to enjoy the kick on the ground.. to wander down rooms for the 'spiel' afterwards. Ive havd friends who are MCC members and have at times enjoyed the Long room ( old one ) but thse days I just go to the footy..I just watch the game..take most of my own fodder.and rarely splurge beyond a couple of ales.. Times have changed for me..persepctive has definitely. But thats only me. I now see ( remember) many watch it in a different way and enjoy other aspects to the day. I will say I will be going along to the summit without any interest in contributing to the minutae of the day's watching do's and can'ts. Personally Im more interested in bringing to the table any ideas ( mine ) or others by proxy to allow this club to survive, grow and indeed prosper. If any one not going wants to get an idea across PM me. But im sure some of the ideas expressed may help some enjoy the footy 'experience"...its all good

Setanta O'hAilpin- New Head of Irish Relations
beelzebub replied to gothedemons's topic in Melbourne Demons
aaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!! Never fails to amuse how some folk have no sense of humour, whilst others simply have no sense !! Head of Irish Relations........thats good.. :D -
Strangely , like much in life it isnt actually emented into position..lol.. not yet !! hehe It is variously shown as being about 300-400 m onthe other side of the main road there..to the north....closer than Richmond is to the G !! Naming it Casey Fields would make sense now for sure.

ahhhh..the VIKING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes..remember watching him play

Cranbourne East to be pushed for earlier build. As part of the PT4me2 report articles have appeared here Relief Plan for Train Strain and Call to get moving on Transport The full pt4me2 report can be accessed here pt4me2. Whilst priority is given to bringing forward teh Lynbrook Station, Cranbourne East gets a gong. Elements noted in Casey are ; Bring forward construction of Lynbrook Station in Melbourne’s south-east, not due to be completed until at least 2016. Extend the suburban line from Cranbourne to Cranbourne East and construct a new station at Cranbourne East. Duplicate the rail line between Cranbourne and Dandenong. Staff all stations (Hallam and Merinda Park currently have none). Expand commuter parking at Merinda Park Station, Narre Warren Station and Berwick Station. Develop a network of high speed/ high frequency bus routes along arterial roads to link activity centres. Provide Night-rider services in Casey (currently only link out to Dandenong). So whilst not everything effect Casey Fields specifically many have some bearing or help. that is all..return to normal programming

Unfortunately this basic tenet is lost on those with their ideals set above the clouds

Jaded.. Form mine the hype surrounding Johnson was very overdone . Again we have a kid with supposed pedigree who in all reality isnt a reflection in his old man's White Diamonds !! Its disappointing to me we wont get anything for him.( other than another freed up spot ) . He had glimpses of ability without ever putting in a pearler let alone tearing a game apart. Another goes as part of a weeding out process..so be it.

Was exactly my first thought. He we ae showing our "home "..as it was. Why show the MCG unless its meant to figure in some way. Will be curious now to see the 'away" jumper as obviously the MFC logo has found favour. Anyone else see the irony in that we ought to have had this logo at the beginning of our sesquicentenial year..not the end !! And yet the clubs moves even further along some chartered path !!

Are you satisfied with Bailey at the moment?
beelzebub replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Funny really....we hardly ever expect a player to come right in and set the world alight and many suppose a new coach will ?? I expect to see a second season Bailey a lot more effective, feet settled, more informed and possibly far more savvy to just what this bunch might attain. He'll be setting sail in 09 with a different looking group. If not a lot comes of it then ...and only then will I wonder to his ability. I can wait. -
A particularly balanced look at this. Some seem 'crushed' that some of thee guys apparently dont have the love for this club we do and yet the criteria in al reality for barracking for, as opposed to playing for ..a club are probably chasms apart. Dont beat ya self up folks..its almost comical really . A quick trip to Safeway...aisle 4.. back on the right..2nd shelf up...grab a packet of reality pills..and take some

well lets survey what we DO know. We can take it he WONT again be donning a Melbourne jumper any lifetime soon. We know he STILL is on our list..as he hasnt appeared "delisted" I can only summise he will be paid off with an agreed settlement and we probably wont be able to add to our list at this moment in his place. Im not sure ( as is everyone else ) where the League stands on replacing the void as its never happened before. Best case is he's gone..and we havent paid a full years money to do so.. and so on to 09 Still this IS the AFL we're discussing here so who knows
-
He's made his bed..he can lay in it now !! He undoubtedly feels there is a deal somewhere Maybe he will trundle off home to WA.. Im not losing sleep over this list clogger..not one iota. I wish him no ill...just really couldnt care less We'll all know come PSD time.. wont we !!
-
and..............Who really cares if a bloke barracked for Melbourne as a kid. Is this any real criteria?? ffs All that matters is what anyone does in a Melbourne guernsey...anything else is irelevant
-
Im inclined to agree Hannabal. He (CJ ) has a nice kick..but I dont think the pace ( of thinking) for a really good player. Got shown up too many times for mine..others will no doubt disagree. He makes an OK player in a very average team.. If we want to be above average he's no chop!! Simple as that really ..as Rhino alludes others might consider themselves very lucky at teh moment. Still..thats one more space freed up

Ok..found this in the Dandenong Journal ( happened to be at work ) cant find a link..so bear with me as I transcribe..... DEMONS Extract "Small Changes " ""The Melbourne Football Club appears keen to come to Cranbourne after gaining extensive "small changes' from Casey, the City of Casey's chief executive Mike Tyler announced last week. A fortnight ago there were fears the $1.4 Million deal to woo the club to casey Fileds would founder with MFC Interim CEo Peter Spargo telling The Journal it was at loggerheads with Casey over several issues. However , at last Tuesday's council meeting Mr Tyler said that while the contract was not yet signed, "the MFC are now happy, it appears, to proceed". "It seems things are moving along well." Mr Tyler said there was no need for council to view th echnages, as a council resolution allowed for solicitor -sanctioned variations to the contract. "There have been an extensive number of quite small changes." he said. These included the standard of the construction required and the CPI beiung factored in for costs to the club. The proposed 30-year term was "stil lthe case for now" But the club's community obligations would be changed to ensure what was required in the first year "is not the same in the 10th year". In earlier debate councillors voted to approve the agreement for the Casey Scorpions to relocate to Casey Fileds subject to any changes required by solicitors. Mr Tyler revealed there was legal confusion over whether the Scorpions held a lease, which gives exclusive occupation rights, or a licence granting non-exclusive occupation rights. Cr Mick Morland insisted the issue was just a matter of tidying things up after it wasdiscovered the council could not grant a lease for longer than ten years witout a public notification process. The Scorpions simply wanted the certainty of knowing they would at least receive a licence if a lease was not granted in 2015. Cr Morland said. During debate it was conceded that the Scorpions could allow the MFC to share tenancy at Casey Fields if the deal with the council failed. ""

Probably a tad too logical there RR

oh ye of little faith Geezuzz people.. what a bunch of sooks and losers you lot are.. Season not even started and youre already making excuses... How laughable...you ought to be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. Yes we met the reigning champs in the first round home and away.. we got thumped.. I was there.. I remember it reasonably well. We met them 12 rounds later and only went down by a bit over 4 goals and we were one of the few defences to tame Buddy...Remember that ??? Do ya ?? I dont think you do. Do you also remember when we met Geelong that opening NAB game we were a shadow not only of what the team the year before, but that was hardly recognisable to the one we will probably front next year. But you all have us lost and buried already...unbeleivable. Without doubt we are the AFL's whipping boys...no doubt about it.. But I think the largest whips are carried by some so called Demon supporters themselves... Must be a self-flagellation society out there masquerading as Melbourne supporters !! Good job we aren't all like that!! Hawthorn will be good...but we wil be a damn site better than this season. By all means commiserate a loss ,perhaps... but at least have the decency to wait til after the game !!

I admit my first kneejerk reaction was to think..'oh..coffers bare huh!!" but I decided to have a think about this. There may well be some element of bang for buck here.. but in al honesty I think we might just get some real BANG for dollars. Williams is held in quite high regard by the club. His record at sandy is ..well..speaks for itslef..bit of a no brainer there Id think. As to his midfiled credentials. Well..if yo have had a chance to listen to his quarter and 3/4 time talks then you wil know he is no nonsense.. He;s a get the ball, use it wisely , move it move it move it.. get it to a playe rin a position to do something with it ( thats not always a player in a position by the way!! ) He doesnt advocate a particularly complicated game, and really footy ought not be either. Im left very flatfooted by the seeming lack lustre results by PW. I see the next few years as developmental and progressional at best anyway..am happy enough to see what Mark can do
-
You have to understand...its not like we would be looking to abscond after 10 years but signing an agreement to certain terms for 30 is really quite foolhardy in this day and age. You would want to agree to options of ten by ten by ten etc. This gives some lattitute without the immense exposure fiscally should something not quite go as planned Its not that its 30 years..its possibly that its in one lump!! Theres a huge difference
-
I dont doubt youve heard something..its whether the something is set in concrete yet !!
-
I wonder what we did actually agree to? Hopefully not a straight 30 years..we'd be amatuers contractually if so ought to be interesting none the less to see it finally announced and put to bed. Would expect an announcemtn re Scorps to follow on its hells then. If its ok with all..shall defer til whisper becomes a shout !!
