Now Id be cynical to suggest "Melbourne wont rush in sponsor" actually means they arent exactly lining up in droves !!
-
Exactly...its like we're hearing everything with time lag !! which makes me wonder whether all this reporting is possibly a little behind the reality of things ?? With elections looming..is it nothing more than appropriated muck raking ?? Quite possibly elements of truth...but not a lot of it gels with what we were all given to understand by all parties !! The truth will out ...I spose

Im just a little curious why they are quoting Spargo now.., surely Schwab is in the seat ??
-
umm yes...In a moment of lucidity.....alas it too passed !! the little green and pink pills kicked in later... hehehe

Yes..I would expect he is Persona non grata at present

MFC undertaking research into its low junior supporter base
beelzebub replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well despite there being vey litttle reaction to the request here apparently the MFC was in fact inundated ( so Im told by the club ) with offers and mine isnt required. Apparently Im still up for a book as consolation now !! Lets hope the club learns something from it all. Still a phone call might have been nice or an email without me writing a niggly one first. Some may see these things as petty. To me they are the signs of how professional an organisation is.. Ive no Dount Martin and co are doing their best.. but... -
Should all this come to nought..I and many others will be asking some questions of this club. I have to say Ive always felt ( warning ..my opinion ) that Stynes's heart wasnt in Casey...definitely Connolly's was/is. I await with much interest the outcome of this fiasco

ffs cant the two of you leave it alone..its boring <_<
-
exactly !! maybe too simple a concept for some ?
-
Better he clogs up someone elses list rather than ours.. We're going to pay something anyways. If he goes into PSD..it costs us nothing after what we agree to settle on
-
Why does this act as a deterrent ? You offfer no facts, just your opinion. Yet you ask for facts. How exactly does the singular occasion of training during summer at this location prevent Melbourne from securing anyones services. Im interested, this ought to be very illuminating . We can then pass this on to the club as Im sure they'd want to circumvent any thing that will act against its recruiting.
-
West Sydney..should it ever eventuate. will have no affect on 2009.. Nor at this writing will anything affect the priority picks. This may change as a result of review by the AFL into PP's in general but nothing as a result of the new team(s). Even GC17 isnt cemented in stone at this moment...only the intent ! Splitting hairs some may think..but thats the case.
-
If Carroll has any sense...and of course thats a long bow. He would deal for a payout now and walk into the PSD. That will be the ONLY way he can continue his AFL career..Someone may give him a second chance without it costing them a lot. Dont really care..as long as he's gone

fellas...get a room...Not really interested in you all sharing your love !!

who's that Ferrari formal hire !! Give those Doggies a shake !!

I have had enough of this location crap..and it is CRAP !! Let put things into REAL perspective shall we. Football is a job.. a JOB !! jobs have premises and locations. Thats it. If you work for xy or z you work at ab or c. Do people all think these guyslive in the CBD or something ?? Is it supposed to be some sort of pic nic for all. according to whom exactly ?? ffs if they are that lazy a sh!t that they cant get off their collective arses and get to WORK !! then quite frankly they can bugger off. Elite players in many other codes all around the world have no problem with this..SO what makes a group of overpaid under-producing egoists at Melbourne think they are so bloody special.?? They arent...Poor babies...poor them !! Yes theyd rather a shitty box of gym bits at a half occupied ground than a new surface with al the do dats (eventually) ?? Casey is NOT to be our ONLY training venue.. Get it through some heads please. It wil be our SUMMEr venue. ALL clubs go places etc. Just we will have a permanent one..Bit of an advantage I would have thought. We are still ( as of this writing ) to gain the Bubbledome facilites for winter etc. But when we want to we can go down the road and train at Casey Too. Some of you obviously have heads up bums .. Some of you are terribly condescnding towards Casey. I dont understand why. You can still go watch the Dees at Goshs paddock in winter.. so whats yor beef ??
-
Quite frankly he had a lot more credibility and believability ( to me ) before he uttered this rubbish. He probably thinks its what we all want to hear ..but its just cr@p to the max. He WAS prepared to leave the club. And thats fine.. No problems with a player pursuing his craft..but less of the fairytales please Brad <_< He's decided to stay with us because he got a contract more in keeping with his wants..again fair enough. Make him captain ? Im inclined to think NO..but if Bails wants him to..well thats his job.

You actually touch upon an interesting aspect. Much that has been done to 'survive' in recent months is the old ...retreat to a fortress of known entities. This in itself is fine whilst you convalesce and catch your breath. But as a plan going forward..well ..it isnt one. Its a "stationary" procedure. I.e We all march time in the one spot...going nowhere..neither forward..nor importantly backwards. in the short term it allows the ability to regroup and muster whatever resources available to mount another offensive. The danger is to spend to olong inthe one spot. The other danger is to fall back on ALL things nostalgic and 'known" .Not all of these worked in the past so why will they suddenly work in the future ? Must be magic The tag of "conservative' is our Albatross...We need to jettison it very very quickly and replace it with a more astute and modernist image. Thats not to say that all that is old id bad..but neither is it good. Casey needs to be embraced , enshrined and extrapolated to the Max. It wil be generational with only marginally observed changes to the wider publics view of us to begin with. But its that one leg of a stool. By itself useless..with two others a very sturdy foundation. Some sort of success is another leg. MacNamee did actually have some idea of where we needed to venture. He was scuttled however. Instead iof helping him..others chose to set traps..Kindergarten stuff really isnt it !! We dont need or want an old boys club. We want a New Boys fraternity with more scope and better vision with less bickering towards old partners such as the MCC etc. Stynes does seem to be moving in this direction but hopefully listens more to Cuddles and less to his seemingly narrow stance. We cant really go back to the G as many want..its not ours and in many ways depite our eras of glory there its actually been our nemesis as well. Its because we were born of thisstadium and not elsewheres that we arpresently lost in many's eyes. To go back there again in the SAME vein will only compound the problem. To embrace it as PART of a NEW MELBOURNE is the only way to succeed..MacNamee understood this as his knowledge and experience in teh BIG world is now wasted. Stynes better know what he is doing...shouting and waving a scarf is all well and good but it seems he really had NO idea of where we were before he started his crusades. So far he's managed to tug the heart strings.. but thats a onceonly call. He will scuttle this if a decent sponsor isnt garnered sooner rather than later ..Caro puts an interesting aside on this AFL must do more the danger is if we seem to conservative again then many of the current crop of cashed up companies ( if any stil lexist ) wont be looking to staid vehicles to carry their messages. Melbourne cant go back into theshel of what it once was. By all means cut out al the articles and stick up al the pix etc. But that was then..this is NOW. Now requires a NEW MELBOURNE, one that is relevant to the kids and the upcoming followers of the game. Al our success was last CENTURY...just consider how that sounds for a moment ..LAST CENTURY !! What does a 10-yo make of that?..thats like SOoo yesterday . Much about fashion is the taking of something from those same yesterdays...giving it a new cut and line and rolling it out as TODAY !!! We need to do exactly that. Sticking to last century's suit just wont work. Theres the old adage ..Fake it beofre you Make it !! Well this club has to fake some success and utilise it to present an image of something that is not only worth continual support..but worth joining. We have some very good ad -gurus on board ..They should be working overtime to think of very cost effective ways of promting the club..Viral campaigns etc.. all out of the box stuff. If we are serious about being around.. then the club needs to sort CAsey out.. and NOW. It needs to get out there..NOW.. it needs to promote itself ..NOW...and the likes of Jimma and company need to come clean about what they intend to do and how they think it can be done NOW. We've missed so many opportunites . We need to be a lot more clever than clinging to the success of the 50-60's and the coat tails of limited success of the 80's etc. They are either only memories now or illusions. The kids coming up need somethng tangible and today.

Its only about the consideration. Probably a discusions are moot really as I doubt he ( too) would come and in all likley hood theres probably 4-5 other teams who will clamber over the top of us to secure him after all is said and done. What the Ben Cousins situation highlights is that if you are to succeed in this game then as a team you have to look beyond the obvious and consider the "other " aspects. Some would jump on this aspects and suggest here all the "negatives" that would suposedly come with his signing. Yet there is actually no proof whatsoever that would be the case. Its just become modern lore that it would be...so it must be true !! Those that are privvy to th einer canctums will have a far better understanding of what is REAL and what is supercilious. If Melbourne is to advance and to advance with sufficient gusto as to become relevant to finals and in turn not just make them but be competitve then it must grasp every opportunity that comes along no matter what shape or form. They must look carefully and evaluate according to what willbetter the team...not what suits popular football mythology. Go Dees

An opinion ,speculative at best.. no foundation Your compounding one assumption on top of another. ...and calling for a result ?? Yes..they are the rules.. no such governamce applies to the AFL at present. And Cousins hasnt actually been DONE for anything in terms of crimes. He's confessed to a problem..and he's dealing with it. Is he a saint..hardly..well not yet !!! lol Sorry..this is rubbish thinking.. all 'dismisaal out of hand" tarred with brush stuff. By all accounts Cousins is a very hard trainer..the only distraction would be keeping up !! What other distractions have I misunderstood ? Whats to lose.. a throw away pick ..paying well under market value for seondhand goods.. Not necesarily second rate..just used. Seems not all clubs think the same...nor spectators. Its something worth considering...maybe not doing in the end..but to not consider it I seriously think is foolhardy.
-
yes....so much to lose in our position So much is said speculatively about what he may or may not be...and so we can take any of that as gospel ? I think not. WCE are more a basket case than he (BC ) ever was so I wouldnt put too much bias on that. Take a look at what he HAS done...and maybe less of all the inuendos and second guesses <_< If the use of a PSD pick is all but entirely speculative to the max at best...and a throwaway pick at worse...then what is MORE speculative, more risky ?? to pick a looked over kid who may or may not be anything...and most are..accross ALL picks..everywhere.. Far less make it than burn bright for 5 mins then disapper for ever...or a bloke who you know can contribute "something".. Yes..I fully understand the 'something' might be also speculative in nature..but only by degrees...not something or NOTHING !! Im only suggesting he is definitely worth a consideration..as opposed to dismissal without thinking.
-
Thats a mightly big throw away line there DD..based on what exactly may I ask ? He knows football.. he knows HOW to play football. He knows how to play football at a level way above most on our list. he knows how to keep fit and how to apply himslef to tasks and focus. Yes he's screwed up... who hasnt. By all accounts he's trying to take his life in a new direction...that takes serious dedication to task at hand , application and effort. Lets see Dedication to task at hand............. Application................... Effort yeah...we can certainly do without any of that at Melbourne...god forbid !!!

There is a vast difference between mentoring ON the field ..and doing similar OFF of it. Our midfield is weak. ( by top 4 standards). Cousins ..all other things aside is an ELITE level Mid Fielder. Been a long time between drinks for us to have one. there may well be someone else around to pick in the PSD.. again I reiterate..NO ONE knows.. as the list isnt cemented yet. The whole point WOULD be to take Cousins for 2 or so years..knowing he probably wouldnt be part of any flag tilt.. By then he's done his job. If our current efforts of Midfield coaching and mentoring are refelcted by results so far....we NEED a lot of help !!! When you grow a plant...you stake it.. so the young seedlings can grow with direction etc. Thats how yo need to build a team, predominantly youngens..but a handful of more experienced players to hold things together whilst the NEW team takes shape. or we can continue to get smashed and routed and finish last again...thats always fun <_<

Yep...Lock that one in Eddie !!! sorry..one of those days !

what better way to face your Demons...than by being one
