  1. That's great news. It's a lasting tribute to a seminal figure in Aussie rules, no worries about that. A champion of the game along with brother Len. (And Peter who I saw play numerous times in the 2's). What sticks in my craw is it's called the 'Australia Post Avenue of Legends'. Until the next sponsor arrives Here's a radical idea. How about the 'Avenue of Legends'.
  2. Late comment in an overlong thread regarding a good ordinary footballer who was part of a champion team and played his role. Saw him play in Shepp, saw him him in the grannies and good luck to him. Played to the best of his abilities and got the rewards. His time is over and we'd be stupid to even consider picking him up.
  3. Loved the pic though... Pizza delivery guy and a Bollywood extra.
  4. You're not even a three year member on this board yet junior! Where were those 'years' spent bagging Bate and Miller? Get your hand off it.
  5. Magic Moments - DEMONS official AFL DVD on sale at Dimmey's in Swan St Richmond for $2.00 atm! Just inside the front entrance. It runs 80 minutes and features some great footage up to about 2006 when it was released. It's divided into various chapters like Heroes, Screamers, The Great Games etc and features plenty of archival footage of Barass, the Red Fox etc. Well worth getting if you haven't got a copy already. (Also a selection of English & European soccer stuff available at two bucks a DVD if that's your bag).
  6. We'd make a great soccer team. Two goals often wins it.
  7. Weather forecast is promising...21 degrees, mostly sunny, light winds. Go Dees!
  8. "Fortunately, Davey seems to be making some strides away from this." Davey's lifted because he's dropped the strides too often...from an economic rationalist perspective.
  9. Would 'young Col' still have any trade value later this year? And forget the '2 games into returning' stuff. He plays like he's resuming most of the games he plays. A bit of a Narcissus complex perhaps...too much in love with his own reflection. Simply doesn't do the hard yards regularly enough and impose himself on a game. Carlton might be interested or even the Swans who have a great track record in transforming players. ATM he's average at best and a new start might be a winner both ways depending on the deal.
  10. Here's Melbourne today. Kick to a contest - ten to twelve players ready to contest the spoils. Or have clean possession and kick to a two/three on one. Or keep hugging the boundary line and kick it into what used to be called the 'dead pocket' where scoring is made extra difficult and defenders have an easy job. We lacked skill, imagination, confidence and flair today. I admired the Lions who weren't constrained by some pre-ordained game plan. I don't care if we don't learn ours - it's a crock on todays showing. Long bombs and boundary lines make for losses and very boring footy. The Lions took risks and actually moved the ball into the centre corridor! Heaven forbid. Create space, open up the goal-mouth and take it from there. As they say, look at the scoreboard. Unfortunately the bottom line was they had better skilled players and some idea of how to play instinctive footy.
  11. I went into MacDonalds yesterday and said "I'd like some fries". The girl at the counter said "Would you like some fries with that". (Jay Leno)
  12. New coach, new broom, new expectations with a youthful side. The boy becometh the man. It's all pointing to Trengove...pretty much a monte.
  13. 64 for me. First and only. In those days you could take your own camp chair in and a few shredded phone books and park yourself up against the short cyclone fence, standing room in the old bay 13/14...good possie next to the flank.
  14. "suprised" you can't read. Try Demonators post above.
  15. Pot calling the kettle black there HT. Cut the kid some slack. It's "comparative".
  16. Here we go again...it's SELLAR! Can't even get our players names right.
  17. Okay, I'll retract that crack about 3 lines. The more actual observations you post after attending training the more I'll like reading your posts.
  18. Huh??? Half your luck JCB. You got to training and can only post a 3 line report and then parrot what other posters say. You can fool some of the people etc...
  19. Good luck to Bate...2012 is now or never. Fortunate to get another crack on the past couple of years imo...no wonder he's training so well. It'll be worth watching the first few matches to see where he's played, how he plays and how he's rotated. If he's in the starting 22 to begin with that is. It's going to require three sets of eyes early on keeping track of various players we all want to check. Can't wait.
  20. I look forward to the day that Bate becomes a consistent AFL footballer. Good luck Neeld. Along with Davey, a little underwhelming and get a right foot. The old days of one position, one side are long gone.
  21. Back to grammatical clangers, this is a classic from Hellhathnofury on Demonology today: "Its not THAT bigger deal!"
